[Gateway] Wizard/magic gateway craze

My first Wizard was an Evo, and it was love at first flight. I don't think I threw my starter-kit Aviar once after I got it. Promptly bought a Soft Wizard and forgot about any other putter. Then I lost the Evo, and I was sad.

I just got a new soft Wizard and a G9i (new run, I'm assuming - it's light purple). The G9i does seem a bit more stable than the two soft ones I have; I'm using it for shorter approaches and as a driving putter, which is what I used my Evo for, and it's comparable. It didn't take me long to get used to the way it feels, and it is a reliable disc for me, which is what I desperately need.

Here is a question.... just got a black OG wizard.... are these always f-ing money ? They feel amazing..... like how a beat SSS feels but a little more rubbery.

Most OG Wizards are on the soft side, but some batches come out firm.

Their black putters usually feel rubbery compared to the other colors.

They range in firmness as always, but yes, they are money. The small recycle stamps are the best. My first Wizard was a black with gold recycle stamp marked OG SSS. I used it for 3 years before moving on to a firmer putter, but I pulled it back out to take over for my G9i that I don't want to lose in the cold/snow. It's still a great putter. I just wish the flightplate weren't so pliable.

I've got a black (or really dark brown) Organic Wizard that's as stiff as most of my Mediums. It's marked OG on the back, IIRC. I've also got a grey one that feels about like the RFF's.

I love gateways putters for multiple reasons.

Many plastics
Cheap Price Tag
Being able to talk to someone who will hand pick em for you from Gateway directly
The quality and feel when they are new and broken in

I used to be an Aviar snob; for over 14 years it was nothing but 9x KC's, old big bead's and stiff 1/4 bead grid stamps. These things have been getting hard to find and expensive to replace so I thought I'd try something else. I was ordering a bunch of club stamp stuff from Gateway and got myself a variety of Wizards to try while I was at it. After 1 week, I'm wondering why I never looked at these years ago. I've fallen in love with the eraser wizard for putting, and I'm pretty sure I'll be carrying a medium and an SS for throwing. I'm on the Wizard Wagon!

Welcome aboard. Buy some RFF Wizards and fall in love again. :D

I have two OGs that I love, a super beat black one and a pretty fresh mint green one. Only thing is, my are both pretty stiff. The mint green one (large recycle stamp) feels like my medium wizards and the black one feels like my glo wiz (probably a soft run).

Maybe mine are the anomalies. Lucky me because I love a stiff putter.

From the very first moment I was handed a OG-Wizard at the local shop, I was in love, it just felt great and the feel was like nothing I had ever touched.

Anyone have any of the 4S black ones in like 173? I grabbed some 175s and love the way they feel but would like a lower weight.

I love and hate how many varieties there are out there.

When I was first started playing, I messed around with aviars. One day, I bought an OG prototype wizard, and I have been hooked since then. In fact, I joined DGCR because it was the only place I could go to find back-ups. I only recently realized what a great driving putter it is as well.

As for magics, I picked up a couple of sss magics about a year ago, and I have hit 3 aces and many amazing 80-150 foot deuces/par saves/ (gulp) best bogeys ever, that I am sold. I have also found the magics to be straight as an arrow on 40-70 foot jump putts.

They really complement each other well.

is this OG or just soft? feels liek a firmer OG wizard.

Long story short... I used to putt with dx Aviar P&A's. Local pro gave me an SSS Wizard to use for an entire round. After the round I bought it from him for $5, and I haven't putted with any thing but Gateway since. There's just something about the way the plastic feels and how they fly that just seems right for a putter.

Elnino, is there any marking on the underside? Should say OG Wiz if its organic. Most organic Wizards say just that in the stamp though, or have the organic/recycle symbol.

question for you guys since I haven't 'thrown' these yet (just putting) ... is there a big difference in stability between the different flexes and plastics? i'm talking about driving stability, not putting.

I haven't observed one. There were minor differences between my S Wizards, my H Wizard and my old E Wizard that was pretty flexible, but it wasn't a lot. My S Wizards have all flow pretty similar to one another.
