music and disc golf

for casual rounds I like music playing; with buds, its on speakers, alone i wear headphones.

during league/tourney play, no thanks.

I've always wanted to experiment with music during a round.

If I played music I think I would have to listen to smoothing music, most likely instrumentals.

This seems to always help me concentrate while studying so I always wanted to try it on the course.

Wouldn't do it if their were others around me though. I understand no one wants to hear my music haha.

it really doesn't matter what speaker you hook your phone/ipod too, as soon as you get more than 10 feet away it sounds like crap and is horribly annoying. I'm sure if you are working for Bose you might be able to solve this problem. But in reality if you have music on and you are around anyone other than your friends, you are likely just an annoyance to everyone around you. I've found that even having earbuds in I have harder time finding discs, it truly is amazing how much I use this sense along with sight to locate where my disc has gone on blind shots.

I have no problem if others want to play music during casual rounds (I actually don't mind during tournaments but I know others do so I won't encourage it.) If I am playing a course with long walks or I know there will be backups during a tournament I will keep my headphones plugged into my phone in my pocket and put them in during the walk or backup, but I take them out while I'm actually playing the hole.

i listen to music during casual rounds or solo early morning rounds. The music is very low and in my pocket so i am the only one who hears it. I especially listen to music when my fiance is with me. whe likes to talk too much so the music drownds her out!!!

rounds with other people or leagues the music stays off.

music is fine for casual rounds. tourny rounds are much different. the problem i have is 99 percent of the time i hate whats playing:gross:

One of the things I love about DG is that it gets me out into nature and away from the noise of everyday life. So music would ruin that aspect for me.

This.

You should give it a shot. I typically listen to the Dead, Phish, SCI, MMW or other mostly instrumental types while on the course.

Just keep the volume at a level where anyone more than 5' away from you is unable to hear it.

During casual or league rounds, I get a lot of requests to turn it up.

I do remember 1 request to turn it down a few years back, but he was a grumpy old man. Looks like there are more than a few on this thread as well. ;)

Yep. It makes casual rounds with friends way more entertaining, and having earbuds during tournaments can help if I'm playing bad.

I hate hearing music when I'm on the course. Even if you think nobody is near you, you should not be playing music. Case in point: Most courses curve back on themselves, many times I have been putting and somebody has walked by blasting absolutely terrible music while they are on some other fairway.

Honestly playing music on speakers while others are on the course is disrespectful enough to be grounds for justifiable homicide.

Did someone piss in your coffee this morning or are you always full of rage and negativity?

Justifiable homicide? really? I will say music can be annoying for sure especially if you do not like the music being played. but deal with it. It is not going away. I am not for it or against it. I feel it has its place if done properly and respectful to others on the course.

I don't mind if you play your music quietly enough so that its basically unhearable from 10-20' away. Unfortunately, those who blast music are usually 16-25 yos playing Slipknot, [c]rap, or endless reggae because they think it makes them seem "cool".

I could not agree with you more on this issue. :hfive:

Very happy to see some common sense finally making it to this thread.

It is difficult for me to hear my music when my bag is not on my back. I find it very hard to believe that anyone can hear it if they are more than 5' away from my bag.

I play on a very busy course, so keep this is in mind. (If you play by yourself on an empty course, this may not apply.)
I am one of those people that is very distracted by music speakers on the course. One of the reasons that I wear earbuds when I play DG is that it keeps out unwanted noise - including others playing music from speakers.

When I'm more than 5' feet away from your bag, I don't hear the music, true. What I hear is a caucophony of unintelligible sound and noise that sounds like music to someone who is within 5'.

If you want to listen to your music, I'm okay with that. What I do not appreciate is when I am forced to listen to someone else's music.

I don't dislike YOU, but I may very much dislike your music.
Wear earbuds, please.

I've seen a lot of people around here using headphones. That always works out pretty well. I don't see why, if you must listen to music while playing a round, you can't just throw your earbuds in.
