The Ask MJ & Comet Love Thread

MJ, What are your thoughts on the Ringer GT?

Haven't messed with it a lot yet. Waiting for the off season. That being said it feels just like old rhynos. Now to get them to make the x soft plastic version a little softer

I love the machete! But I don't see how it could replace the predator. Way more stable. Love it for thumbers, huge skips and flick rollers but it doesn't go far. The predator on the other hand is an amazing thrower. Really get some good stable distance.

I only ever used press when they were really stable. The big problem I had throwing them was the way the rim pulled up so much at the bottom with the bead on them. Machetes just come out of my hand cleaner for sidearms and back hands

I can dig it. Btw way to kill it this year! It's been fun to see so many awesome comet throws! I've turned quite a few people around here onto them. By far my favorite mold.

So I ditched my predators for machetes today and went out for a round with my buddies. I thought I would be missing the predator when in fact the machete performed just as well and like you said feels better in the hand. I was surprised the distance I got with them. I have a tournament tomorrow I'll see how it goes but I think the predator could be on the way out. Which is crazy.

Question for you MJ... what is your preferred flippy driver? I was thinking of getting some x undertakers and beating them up. I notice you throw the mantis a lot as well as the heat. I love the idea of having just the one mold in many stabilities like I do with my Surges. I live at 4500 feet mind you so things are more stable up here.

Congrats on the second place finish. Looks like you had Doss pretty flustered lol. That said, when watching the coverage I am pretty sure I saw you throw the most OS Comet I have ever seen...unless you are bagging a Wasp. It was a beaded mid that floated like a comet, but then finished way harder than a regular comet. Basically looked like you had thrown a roc. Would that be the TI Comet? Are they more overstable in general? Or is this just a freak you found somewhere/different mold all together?

Mj, love my heat, I was told it's similar to a comet but shorter. Do you feel that's accurate?

Also, I'm kinda new, but I'm very big on making sure I learn the right way, and avoid bad habits, if you had any discs that a newer person needs to throw other than the comet what would they be?

Any drills you recommend?

General tips you wish you someone told you when you were new?

P.s. the heat/tee bird are the fastest discs I'll throw. I'm trying not to fall into that trap =)

The Heat should be longer than the Comet. I threw one for awhile before I got cocky and tried to clear a deep pond with it. It's a similar flight to a X Comet in my experience...glidey and US but quite a bit longer (awesome hyzer-flip machine!!) After it went swimming I reverted back to my Valkyries. Pro Valks fly the same as Heats for me but without as much glide.

Stick with those Teebirds!! Between the Comets, Heats and Teebirds you'll have no choice but to develop good form.

So what do you bag currently MJ? I know the Shift only carries 16 and that's what i believe i counted, but could you give us a run down by chance?

For sure as of now I have 2 soft ringers for putting, 2 esp bangers, 1 beat D banger and 1 Ti banger for throwing. 4 comets(a Z, Ti, big Z and a Tour Series), 1 machete, an undertaker, mantis, force, and two z cranks

How would you compare the ringer to the magnet from a putting perspective? I have used a regular magnet for most of my ~20 years playing and just last year switched to the soft. My style is pure push with lots of lob. Would you recommend a ringer in that case?

Ringer has less float and carry than a magnet does. It kinda drops out of the sky, which is why I like it for my skin putt. If you are a push putter it would be an interesting transition to try the ringer out with that style

Why do you not have a stable mid in the bag?
