What is the most dangerous course in the nation?

What are the the most unsafe courses you have encountered. This can be due to the terrain or numerous safety risks to other people if you would like, but I am thinking more about neighborhood. Are there any courses that you would not play alone?

Here is my list to get started:

5. Lake Montebello, Baltimore, MD.
I was worried about leaving my car unattended, That area of Baltimore is pretty dangerous.

4. Hollyland Park in Holly Hills, FL
This course was in a pretty rough neighborhood. I would not play there alone at dusk too frequently

3. Palmer Park in Shelby, NC.
Course is in a projects area, but the course itself leads to potential problems between disc golfers and locals. My wife wanted to go for a walk while I played and lets just say I made sure she was in my sight at all times.

2. Francis Scott Key Elementary, District Heights, MD.
My home course, District Heights is nearly DC. My wife and daughter were almost mugged just a mile from that course. I showed up just in time. You can see your car the entire time and the course takes minutes to play, but this is not a course to meet someone and then take their car to another course.

1. Gillies Creek in Richmond, Virginia.
So far this is the only course I will not return to. I was almost hit by a car while standing on the tee pad. I found drugs and a pipe on the course, Chris Hysell was robbed there. You can't pay me to play there.

I've yet to come across a course I won't play alone, nor do I ever expect to.

Though it may have been a deciding factor in deciding between multiple mediocre courses, If I have to decide between one or another I might avoid one that mentions it's in a sketchy neighborhood.

And I suppose occasionally I get nervous about my safety, Sunset in Vegas or Sedgley in Philly for example I've found myself alone with sketchy looking people, but they're usually the friendliest and can help point towards the next tee.

Reedy Creek is in Charlotte. Gillies Creek is in Richmond, Va. I still play there. It's not scary at all.

oops, maybe a mod can fix that. Reedy is a nice course. I did not mean to confuse it with the drug infested crap hole. Even the locals were nasty on that course like we were unwelcome. It is so much different than courses just a few miles away.

Maybe I should rephrase it to what course would you not let your wife/daughter play alone?

I'd put Rosedale, Cliff Drive, Swope and Blue Valley in Kansas City on this list, but I've done them all.

Woodson Park in Oklahoma City would qualify, but I wouldn't go there anyway because the course sucks.

Even though it's about 25 degrees outside right now I'm considering going down there tonight for a round of glow golf. The ace pot for the weekly Wednesday night glow event is over $200.

Yes I was robbed there. I was a victim of two juveniles who ran away with my bag and money. That was 18 months ago. The park is currently undergoing many changes including clearing of all of the dead and dying woods and replanting of trees in the open areas. Also the adjoining neighborhood is undergoing a facelift.

It's not as bad as you are making it appear. I ran a tournament there on Saturday that marked the 19th year I have been doing it. Some of my participants commented that they had never seen the park looking as good as it is.

The only course in Canada I wouldn't send my daughter out to play a round at alone would be the Nordic Centre in Canmore, AB and that's only due to the potential for grizzly bears.

I can't think of one urban course she wouldn't be safe at here.

Myself, I'd play any course in Canada, alone, day or night.

The day I played there a car drove through the course. I found drugs on one hole and a pipe on another tee pad. People on the course talked about how we needed to finish our round before dark. The entire experience was unsettling and then you getting robbed just cemented my fear of Gillies.

On a saturday morning during an event it is probably safe as anywhere else, but I really would hesitate telling someone it is perfectly safe to play there at dusk.

Sugaw in Charlotte is scary.
The first time I played it alone, never again. That neigborhood is just seedy.

Boyd Hill(?), Rock Hill, SC. Our club president was robbed there.

Reedy Creek never scared me, but it's always crowded when I've played there.

What makes them dangerous courses, any anecdotes?

I was looking through the course photos for lake Montebello thinking "this doesn't look like it is in a bad neighborhood" then I saw the PJs in the background of hole #5's approach photo:

the area around sedgely is WAY sketchier than the area around gillies. druid too for that matter. i've never felt threatened on either course.

New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM. Big open desert, washes, criitters, not to mention hard as hell to find tee pads and long holes. Leaving the car is a little sketchy too.

Much like the course that you're talking about in Richmond, the fact that they're all in the 'hood. I know that in at least three of those parks, bodies have been dumped.

There was for some time (and may still be) a memorial cross near Hole 1 at Cliff Drive for a murdered prostitute. Yeah, that's the way you want to start off your round.
:\

The barbwire is not the part of Montebello to be worried about. Montebello and Druid are in basically the same type of area.

I had a guy come at me at Montebello yelling that I dented his car when I threw a roller. I think Martin Degwartia may have been with me, it may have been a different day.

I think it is funny that Sedgley got brought up lol I play there all the time, love that place. It is definitely surrounded by some of the worst hoods in Philly, but you are more then safe on the course. The locals keep the riff-raff out.

I was talking about the projects in the background. I don't even see barbwire lol

I played at a private course on Sunday and we found some drug paraphernalia. It's definitely the safest place around. I won't even post what I found at the Blockhouse in a round. I'd hate for someone to start a thread calling that place a meth lab.
