[Vibram] Vibram Disc Golf Thread (Part II)

Another cool story from this weekend. On friday I drew cali in doubles and the guy that was partners with a friend of mine told me that he heard that Vibram discs suck. I proceeded to tie and split the doubles pot :) I think he finally realized not to judge so readily.

Yeah, I was playing a doubles event this past winter and had a similar story, only the guy that said Vibram was no good was one of the top 5 players in the state. I was having a good day that day. And of course since then I have been working hard at improving the game.

Both forums have been pretty quiet. I am hoping Steve releases news on the R420B and R419B sometime this week!

This week? Not likely. I believe the plan was for Mr. Dodge to be at Am Worlds, which I know is next week, but my guess is that he is busy prepping for whatever ti is he is going to do there. Vibram, in my opinion had the best booth at last years worlds fly mart, certainly the most fun. I haven't heard if he is doing anything like his CTP thing last year but Steve will do something good that is for sure.

I would imagine Steve will have something to do with them ready for people to test out at Am Worlds to help build the hype. I think it will either be more protos like testers got, or some first runs with a special 2013 world's stamp on them.

I just thought maybe we would hear an announcement on names or PDGA approval by the end of the week. But maybe not til next week!

Steve has learned that he can get the PDGA to approve the discs on the day he wants them to be approved and that usually coincides with the release date. We will know the name and other things well before the PDGA tells us.

I hadn't even thought of that. I am crazy excited about that possibility. Driving to Emporia tomorrow! Woo Hoo!

I need these testers in firm, they're perfect roller discs, but absorb the impact way too much. You have to be very subtle with the landing to get them to start but when they do dear God! Plus a broken in R420 seems like money to me. Mine is getting smashed by trees occasionally, a few stretch marks lol but this sucker is still a meathook.

lost like half my bag last week.

hello ibex, goodbye opto core.

what's with the insane flashing around the rim, though? i'm worried the flight will change significantly once it's gone. right now it's straight with just a little turn and fade, similar to my old core.

Our second round of testing the R419 and R420 is officially complete and we will begin to make modifications to the molds to put the names in (and tweak the wing for the R420b). We went ahead and submitted the discs to the pro disc golf association, and this is what they sent back:

Vibram recently submitted the O-Lace and UnLace for PDGA testing. These discs passed all PDGA tests, so I've added them to the list of PDGA-approved discs. The PDGA Technical Standards Committee approved these discs and the Board of Directors has certified the approvals, so they are now permitted in all PDGA competitions except the upcoming PDGA Am Worlds (note: discs eligible for use in the Am Worlds must be approved and certified at least 30 days prior to that event). Test measurements are listed below and photographs of the discs and an updated list of approved discs are attached.

We will have them make the official announcement closer to the release date, which will be this Summer.

Legendary! Finally getting closer to the release date just as I hoped. I like the name unLace a lot but O-Lace is just kind of whatever. It was cool for Obex but I think something like Trace would have been a little more unique and original for the O/S Lace. But oh well! I'm just looking forward to having more rubber in my bag. Innova Ape is being knocked out for sure and unLace will be nice for huge anny shots and flip-hyzers.

I felt the same way toward the name but heck I don't are they're production.

Agreed sir! I get they are doing what Discraft did with the Nuke....SS and OS but I thought they would be a little more unique. But like we both said - more rubber coming soon to bags everywhere so YES.

Those seriously can't be the names... can they?

If so... wow, that's terrible.

Might still pick up one of each though.

I'm hoping these aren't the official names either, nothing against them, but i like when people ask me what i'm throwing and saying "Unlace" just doesn't sound as awesome as "Obex" "VP" or even the "Trak."

I love the "Summit' because it describes the disc, its the final point in the expedition, for me the Summit is my "GO-TO" disc for under 210 feet; My final throw. If i don't throw that its the VP.

Well Steve posted the tech specs just above so I think O-Lace and UnLace are the official names....it would seem that way to me. I'm with you though, not the biggest fan of coping Discraft with the SS and OS. Vibram may just be trying to continue branding the Lace though which makes sense.
