[Vibram] Vibram Disc Golf Thread (Part II)

My Maple Hill Sole is getting a greasy feeling, almost like am oily residue.

Anyone else experience this with Vibram rubber?

Met Steve Dodge at Disc Nation today. Here are my thoughts and some new info:

Confirmed floating discs! More about the valley! "Complete fairway lineup this year"

Hmmm. I'm excited at the thought of another fairway driver or two...though not at the thought of them being 150-class only. That would suck, as I have no interest in throwing that class. (My son and wife, however, do.)

The impending arrival of floaty compounds for all models is quite welcome!

Yeah he definitely didn't mention anything about an over stable fairway, much less say that it would only be 150 class. Even the idea that that disc would exist in the near future was just me speculating and filling in between the lines. All he said was that they'd have a "Complete lineup of fairways"

I'm also not sure whether the retooled Valley will be 150 class or not. I should have asked him that question explicitly, but I didn't. It may be too soon to say because the retooling isn't complete yet.

I wish every disc company had a Steve Dodge out there - great ambassador for his company and the game in general.

Thanks for the write-up Mr. Darkhorse. It's good to know the background as to why the tester discs were so light. Also interesting to hear about the issue of excess flashing... it must have been frustrating to think they had the mold dialed in only to discover the flashing/weight issue during the initial run.

I am wondering if they can add some sort of spacer or notch to increase the rim depth and raise the PLH. Is that possible with compression molds?

Hmm, I'm not sure. But if the tweaked mold comes out flying like a Leopard in x-link, I will have to change my underwear.

Was thinking about picking up a lace, was going to ask what you all thought about them but judging by the 336 page thread they must be pretty popular

I love Laces. At my 375' of power they're the perfect distance driver. They vary predictably by weight, meaning you can cover a variety of stabilities with them: a new max weight Lace holds up to a headwind fairly well at my power, and a mid 160s Lace with some wear is the perfect turnover distance driver. That's the reason it's the only true DD I bag. Great mold.

Popularity based on pages of a DGCR thread is...subjective. ;) They're popular amongst Vibram fans, but I don't know a whole lot of people, comparatively, who throw them.

The Lace is the only disc I've ever been able to get past 300' with any sort of regularity. I keep trying to take them out of the bag, because I don't have a lot of power and think I should stick with fairways, but then I'll throw them 30-40' past my Traks in the field and put them back in.

My experience with the Lace is.... it's probably going to bomb for you, but if you have bad form and/or get a bad one, it can tend to flip on you.

Im learning this very fast. I have a 175F, 168M and 163M. My lightweight one is just an amazing bomber. The rubber gives me a ton of extra grip over the similar Gummy Tern especially in cooler weather and then you have the awesome colors. hahah
