Disc finding luck?

I play about once a week and find a disc about once a month.

Favorite find - Buzzzz ESP flx, the owner had moved out of state and said keep it! Hadn't really thrown buzzzzes successfully before - this one worked with my arm speed, felt nice in my hand, and is my go to mid.

Found an unmarked star mako, the first mid I could throw straight, liked it so much I went out and bought a backup.

I carry 6 firebirds (for my thumber arsenal), one is an unmarked star that is pretty beat, but I throw it when I'm worried about hitting a tree or road rash.

A champion Xcal (unmarked) fell out of a tree as I was walking by.

I'm a disc magnet:D

Recently found an unmarked Soft-X Challenger, sitting in a basket. Most of the stuff I find is laying on the fairway, or left behind in a basket.

Found a Mamba the other day with no name in it and gave it to some people who were just starting out.

My buddy however finds a Roc3 with no name.Good color in Orange. I always tell him he finds the good stuff and I'm left with discs like a Mamba. lol

I found a nice Juliana Korver 5x Champion Valkyrie on Friday, cherry red with a blue stamp, 174g. Ink on the back, called the owner and left a message. While driving out of the park, yelled to a group, "Anybody named _______ here?" A guy turns around and said, "Did you find my Valkyrie?"

It wasn't the guy's name on the back, though. He said he bought it off someone used and even called the guy's number himself, getting no response. So I'm sitting there and have to either be a dick and decline to give it to him...or, call and leave another message to the number on the ink and told him the situation. "A guy here claims he bought it used from a friend of his who somehow either found it or whatever." I then handed my phone to the claimee and had him give his name and number.

That way, I guess I could drive off and not feel totally bad. Learned my lesson, though. In the future, I'm only leaving a message so I'm not in that situation.

By the way, two days have elapsed and the guy on the ink didn't return my call, so I'm guessing it wasn't a big deal...

I've been finding a lot this year. Several have had disconnected numbers, I have returned a couple, I have one in my car that I'm "holding on to" for a guy, and another in my box that I'm "holding on to" for a guy, and several with no contact info that I've traded in at PIAS. I really wish I'd find more discs that I actually throw...

I know a couple guys that go swimming in waist-deep water on a weekly basis just to look for discs that other players can't find or are too lazy to jump in and get. My question to you guys is, "If you take the time to get in deep and dirty, do you contact the ink, or assume they didn't want to get grungy?"

This has been argued to death already. Most will tell you to call every time. I don't ink anymore. The only time that someone ever called me, I told them to keep it anyway. If its a favorite disc of mine, I will usualy find it. Unless it goes into the water, then its up for grabs!

Sorry to drum up an old topic. I've been playing disc golf all of 1 week, so I just wanted to learn etiquette. I was thinking to make it a habit to go disc diving every Monday morning at a few local courses until I build up my collection.

No problem. Welcome to this great sport, and site. You may want to search/look around for topics before starting a thread, to see if its already under discussion.

Some other topics that have caused problems: Par discussions and Roc vs Buzzz. Remeber the golden rule, have fun!

Found a Yellow 1998 DX Rhyno today, tried to call the number a couple times with no answer or response, which is much more than i'm usually given.

I can't tell if it's beadless or if the bead is worn off, but it looks beadless.

That's up to you, If i saw my disc go into water and didn't go grab it, i'd expect it to be gone, or at the very least to have to pay a divers fee for them finding it.

Ya if you're diving into water for a disc, that disc is your imo. Same thing with climbing trees or anything else that requires that extra effort. If its just found then ya call everytime.

A little on property law... Property is generally deemed to have been lost if it is found in a place where the true owner likely did not intend to set it down, and where it is not likely to be found by the true owner. At common law, the finder of a lost item could claim the right to possess the item against any person except the true owner or any previous possessors.

Yes, but it would also be considered abandond after a certain amount of time, would it not?

It varies by state, but, yes...after a certain amount of time that item becomes the property of the finder. Usually 90 days!!

One of the cool unmarked discs that I have found was an Innova Phenix.
