[Drivers] Flat firebird clones?

Buy an Ozark directly from Gateway. Buy a Spirit or two from them as well. The Spirit is probably more OS than any FireBird. I have no idea if Gateway actually has either in stock.

Gateways a distributor I think. No store? Or at least there were no options to buy yesterday when I used the site to check out the bag.

I was hesitant to even answer in this thread because you are clearly more of a mother****ing ******* than I am (and ask anyone on here, that's saying something) but whatever.

First off, and I said this in another thread, I have never, in all my years of playing (well not all of them, since I've been playing much longer than Firebirds existed) seen a Champion Firebird that was anything other than super flat. DX and Star Firebirds, yes, but not Champion. I have no idea why your area is the black hole of flat Firebirds but trust me when I say this is not a huge problem. I think you are just trying to reason with yourself for whatever reason to try a new brand.

There's lots of brands out there, and lots of discs to try. So there's no reason to try and find some excuse to do it. Just do it. No one cares. What we do care about is your attitude. Yeah it's the internet, blah blah blah, but what the hell, dude? The Marketplace on here is much better than eBay or Dollar Disc Golf Auctions or even my local shops half the time. So chill the **** out before you get banned...I almost got banned once and I was doing far less than insulting figuratively every user on this site.

Now, back to your dilemma. Firebirds are one of the rare Innova molds that is just super hard to duplicate. There's stuff that's close, but nothing thats exact. So if you want something that is kinda Firebirdish try a Discraft Z Flick. Very flat, with a pretty similar flight path. The Rim feels different but the flight is close. A XXX from Latitude 64 will feel like an alien in your hand if you are comfortable with Firebirds, but I've found them to be even more overstable. Those are really your only two options.

Happy hunting.

What a diva, this guy.

Flicks are the only disc I've know to always always always be flat, so that's my vote if you want guaranteed flat. They're a choice disc in my area for thumbers and, of course, flicks. Like, super-chucker huge anny-flex FH roller shots that miss the ground type forehands. I had never thrown anything as overstable til I got my first FB, which happened to be a flat FB. Then I got a few more, from stores and at tournaments for avg. retail prices like normal people do. It's good to plan ahead in life, but I guess I'm part of the reason you can't find 'em.. :)

Yeah, I'm fine with you being part of the reason I can't find them. Hence the tone of the OP when I stated I wasn't going to bother searching for something already described to me as "niche" and "hard to find so over priced". THe OP is pretty clear about looking for alternatives instead of finding a Bird. Plenty of folks stopped by to mention they had one, but not much else? Normal People? I might be stalking up at events myself someday. Just don't expect to see me peddling them in the market place. And I am really not having a hard time finding premium plastic I like to throw for 10-$15, So why get caught up in a niche market. I'll just throw a flick or XXX or something. Thanks for the tip.

Gateway has an Ebay front, gateway direct or something. You can actually call Gateway straight up and order something if you want I've been told.

(flat Opto xXx is where it's at IMO for a flat FB clone)

just email them [email protected] or call them 314.487.5204 they almost always work with you to get exactly what you want. They are a distributor, but they also have a "shop" the front of their factory, been there multiple times lots of plastic to fondle and go through to find exactly what you want.

As for the firebird replacement some of the new 12x are flat and pearly. I throw a Opto and gold line XXX instead of a firebird. also heard good things about discrafts flick and gateway has some super over stable discs but i havent thrown any of them.

What if I were to tell you not all XXXs are flat? Then a Trident? What if I told you not all of those are flat either? Spirit you say? 80% of those have weird pop tops going on. Flicks? Probably your best bet if you NEED flat, but it will feel totally different in your hand. Listen I really don't care for Innova, but I know for a 100% fact that there are 7 champ chickens at my PIA right now. Along with 3 stiff FAF Star chickens. You say you want a different manufactures Firebird, and that is HAS to be flat and that you don't want to hunt for it. Guess what? It's the name of the game pal. If you have certain things you like in a disc, you're always going to be hunting to some degree. Accept it and quit being rude to members here.

I don't think your understanding the intent and spirit of the OP. Was pretty clearly looking for alternatives to a FB. Had looked around a bit already and been clued into the deal with them. Had discussed the difference in Champion and Star FB's while staring at both of them with my local shop owner. Had it verified here in the forums. Seen "Flat Top" Branded Firebirds on web sites since then.
Ban me?
For What? Having a little banter with people coming into the thread and ignoring the OP or Hailing the Virtues of the Market place when I quite clearly wanted nothing to do with it? Keep in mind, not one person said to me,
Hey, The market place isn't really about getting over on people and trying to make money. It's a chill place to find what your looking for. What I heard was prices are inflated due to the best runs getting gobbled up at events etc.
Whatever, Im cool with the left overs or a new brand or disc and was pretty clear about it in the OP.
And anyone I insulted took a pretty good run at me that I was responding to.

I appreciate this response and can dig what your saying. I had no idea finding what you want was going to be part of the game, but I am reluctantly gettng it and working around it. That said, my local shop is run out of a postal store. Going in with about five different discs in mind to check out and coming up empty in your weights and plastics is kind of lame. Dude is super cool to work with and a good guy, just a small shop that does not re stock regularly.

I know hunting sucks, and I, like you, refuse to pay exorbitant prices for plastic. My entire bag is in production and redly available. But when I want something new, I will look for a flatter toped disc or a higher PLH or whatever the case may be. We all have our preferences and sometimes it makes stuff really hard to find. Ask the Destroyer guys. (No offense meant Destroyer guys) Truth is, is that a lot of online retailers will even let you call them and ask for something specific. And remember this too; just because you're looking for something in specific, doesn't always mean its going to cost you a arm and a leg. A flat XXX is the same price as a pop top XXX.

just to let you know, some of the people who post on here do run stores. lots of times they offer to find a specific type of disc as long as you're cool. i know GGGT's online front asks you for details about the disc you want and saw in a different thread someone letting us know they would handpick a specific type for us, which is awesome. the people here are cool for the most part and even if you're not okay with used plastic - i don't use it either - we didn't have to go the route we did, ripping on people for their collecting habits. i would like to think most people here would not recommend someone "hey, if you want this disc for everyday use then you need to go shell out wads of cash for this collector's item".

i understand the OP was about finding a manufacturer's equivalent. that's cool. but there were people trying to help you by letting you know that you don't have to because apparently the new run by innova may just solve your problem without you having to worry about getting a different disc.

the main thing to remember is that no matter which manufacturer you go to, there will be variation. and you might not like the +mold on lat discs if you get the XXX. their plastic is sexy, though . . .

if your limitation is your local shop, you're buying blind either way, regardless of manufacturer, right? so why not bet on the company with the most discs out there, the widest selection to choose from and the best odds of having the disc you want?

i'm super picky about my discs too, and i'm lucky to have a store near (sort of) that i can walk into. if i couldn't, however, and someone told me i was in luck because the disc i wanted was in fact being made, i would just buy that disc.

flicks are super freaking flat, though. dear lord.

anyway, maybe try hazardiscs on ebay. i had a fiasco with paypal, emailed the guy, he emailed me back the next morning. seems open communication is cool. you could send them an email, let them know you like their shop or something and ask about their firebirds before you order. :) i think we all understand that we want a certain disc.

if you are really intent on getting a different one though, maybe try that XXX or flick. know that lat64 does have a reputation for variation, though.

The owner of Hazardiscs is a good friend of mine. He will make sure you're taken care of if you decide to go that route.

Yes. I said that. No desire to look or buy used second hand. Want to go into a store, see if its flat enough for my liking and buy. Ill break it in myself. No I am not donating for the right to scour over threads and buy others used and abused plastic or pay a premium because my partners in disc golf like to buy out popular discs to rip off people later. Just don't get it, but hey I'm new here. I'm here to play golf, not play at trading/selling.

The $5 donation is for the "right to post in the marketplace" but all members can participate in the marketplace. I have purchased several discs, some new some used. I have also made several trades with other members who were looking for particular discs. Yes, you do have to look through some postings but you can generally find what you are looking at reasonable prices. If you dont like the prices then dont buy or you dont trade. It seems as if you really want to touch the disc before you buy you need to talk to the guy at the postal store about the discs you want to buy so he can stock what you want. Good luck finding what you want and good luck with your threads, I'll go back to ring side.

i believe i know where you are shopping, and you are right its tough to get stuff in there if you are very picky
i know this because i am picky
however if you tell the owner what you want, when he goes down to portland to restock he will prob. be able to get it

also, there are other shops in your area, with other discs, if you drive a short ways.

you come across very badly:\

Late coming to this thread....
Yikes! Not going to last long here coming in hot fire like that. Still amazes me how, despite the Tom foolery, the good folks of DGCR STILL give this guy very valid advice ( flick , XXX, spirit).

Another Gateway option is the Speed Demon for something similar to a FireBird. That may be even closer than the Spirit, as its a little slower, if I remember correctly.

I remember otherwise. Could be wrong though. The spirit is normally flat as a pancake and was the beefiest disc out for some time.

Regardless though jack is correct, speed demon is also a very valid beeftastic option.

Yeah, After mentioning that I had struck out on my weights and plastic types in five different molds. Firebird, Beast, Orc, Krait or Tee Devil, I walked out with a Pinnacle Cannon instead of Icon because Icon was gone. I discussed it with the owner and he mentioned how vendors ask him to order at least 35 discs at a time. I get it, hard for a shop that small to cater to customers. I will stop by mando's in Auburn when I am up that way next time.

.

The second part of my post addressed the replacement options with, what I felt, were pretty good descriptions of the feel and flight paths and what not.

And I'm not gonna ban you..I can't. I don't even know how to report someone. I'm just saying there was a thread a few months back about players who used funny cigarettes when playing, and I was getting pretty heated with the people who were saying it's their God-given right to do that wherever they want. And I was politely told to calm the **** down. So it was more of an FYI.
