The 2014 Memorial Championship

To clairfy. The trouble is actually bandwidth to the ingestion point, not to the end user. DGP.tv's issues are 100% venue dependent and can only be fixed with (even more) major capital.

Considering the venues they are trying to broadcast from, renting a satellite truck is probably the most realistic solution. Unfortunately that increases the budget by ~10k per day.

There is internet with more then enough bandwith on site at Fountain Hills.

Just Tweeted fromPDGA - "MPO round 2 should be pretty wicked if this wind keeps up. Live scoring for lead and chase card. Follow @PDGAlive and PDGA on Instagram."

So they should do live scoring for top 8 today.

And as a result, the DGP broadcasts from there were generally pretty good. IIRC, the only trouble spot was for the wireless cam around holes 12-13 due to the cell signal in that area being spotty. The live tweeting today skipped those holes for the same reason.

But a lot of other event sites, Lemon Lake in particular, were terrible in terms of bandwidth to output the live stream. And it showed, with the end-user's stream lagging up to an hour behind "live" by the end of some broadcasts.

Wow, I know that Devan Owens broke his ankle recently (per Dave Feldberg's recent Podcast interview).
Holy broken ankle epidemic. David Wiggins supposedly "Broke" his ankle as well 3 weeks ago here in NC before he went on tour. seeing how well he is playing the last 2 weeks I am thinking it was a simple sprain.

Food poisoning? I call BS. Ulli planted poison in her food :gross:
Cat posted today on FB that she did get food poisoning and thanked Uli for taking care of her "pukie self" last night. not saying he didn't spike her food just saying she is not suspicious;)

Anyone know why it didn't work out between them? They were only married for a year or two, right?

Too bad...seemed like a nice couple.

The new baskets are great for catching hard shots. They are nice and deep and the multiple chains would likely prevent any cut throughs for hyzer putters. The extra chains also make for a better choice of aiming points as we'll. Unfortunately, the extra chains make it worse for soft putters, I found my softer putts would not stick in and were pushed out especially if hitting the chains high. The nubs were also quite sharp, and some players were complaining that their putters were getting gouged. The nubs should have been filed down to smooth them out after the manufacturing process. Overall, it is still a great basket.
are these the new Pro 28's? if so I totally agree. the additional chains to punish puts that are either high or a little left of right. The chains just push them out.

It's the new Mach X from DGA.

Edit: Chuck beat me to it on the other page.

Not to mention the issues of satellite based connectivity and its inherent latency and the havoc that causes when trying to live stream

I worked with them the year that they did use satellite. It was expensive, and definitely had latency & connection issues. On top of that, you then have the issue of transmitting camera signal back to the tent where the satellite is located. Cable can only be run so far, and the line-of-site transmission equipment is expensive to own.

Currently, the best way to do it IS the backpacks streaming via internet. You will run into spots on the course, or even entire events that have problems.

Debatable.

Hardwired 10Mb dedicated upload is an absolute minimum for sending a 'mission critical' 720p30 stream.

Whatever 'bandwidth' is available on site is most likely being shared. That bandwidth is essentially useless for a proper web broadcast.

Satellite connectivity is still used in every major sports/entertainment production. It is 100% the most reliable way to get a signal back to master control from a remote venue.

What about wired in the tent with wireless bridges at certain holes, say 4-5 stations on the course like the pga. I think following a group the hole round would be hard to keep a signal and would run out of batteries at an unopportune time. I think they do this at the USDGC. Then use video from mcfly and others for group follows.

Actually, you can do 720p30 with a 5Mb connection. But, 1080p would be pushing to the extreme and likely end up looking like crap. But for an internet production, 720 is all you really need.

the backpacks that are used have usually 6 bonded LTE connections for redundancy.

Isnt this why we pay PDGA dues, for the league to provide video content to promote the professionals? Or is it just to collect fees and educational materials?

Still 4-5 stations with wireless bridges are expensive (thousands of $$$ each). The year of the satellite we had 3 wired cameras (1, 18, and announcers) and 1 wirelessly bridged camera.

The PDGA helps out the broadcasts. But even I think that the PDGA's money is best spent mostly in other places. This type of coverage should be paid for by sponsors.

720p30 looks like trash at 5Mb. Maybe some talking heads can pass at that low of a bitrate.

Sports content though???? Please. 10Mb minimum. Especially since sports should idealy be streamed at 720p60.
