[Putters] What you putt with and why

I'm putting with a (no) Mercy. It just felt right in my hand and worked just as bad as all the other putters I tried. I have to get a couple more, see if I can use it as approach disc as well (using mostly the Judge for that).

I use wizards, which have been my main putter since 2004. It's simply the putter I'm used to.

I really like Discraft Challengers, but after getting a practice basket, and a bunch of different putters to try out, I found that the Anode worked best for my putting style. Its just a matter of trying a few of the more popular models, and finding out what is right for you.

I've been through quite a few putters. I finally settled on the soft Proton Ion. From day one of it's use, it helped me to increase my confidence while putting. Finding a putter is more about finding a mold that helps you in building confidence. Ions are very good for driving and approaching as well so it also helped me in minimizing the number of molds I carry.

I think approach shots are one of the reasons I keep putting with the ion. I'm pretty happy with the ion for puts but I'm really in love with using it for approaches.

I putt with whatever putter I use for driving. Since I found the wizard a few years ago, it's the only putter mold I use for drives, upshots and putts. It feels good in my hand, and I like not having different feeling putters for different shots. Inside the circle, you can make just about any putter on the market work well for you so it really comes down to feel.

fa shizzle my nizzle. Ions here but you on that baseline mode I know.

Tupperware lid would work if practiced enough' I do find them a bit flippy at high speeds though.

I putt/approach/drive with Soft Magnets (and a CFLX). They feel nice, are pretty neutral, and glide quite a bit.

I carry a VP, but it's not for putts. It's for shots that aren't glidey and neutral.

Stiff Challengers, I have confidence that they'll go in and they do!

No one has suggested the JK Aviar-X. Feels best in my hand (plus I have a black one that's tough to find). I do have a soft judge - same softness/tackiness, little shallower rim - that I mix in from time to time, but it hasn't kicked the JK out yet. I drive with a proton ion in the warm months, and a stiff ridge in the cold months.

I use the Soft Banger GT because it feels great in my hand and has the right amount of stability for me. I use a fan grip and I love how my thumb find the exact same spot every time on the inside of the groove top. I used to use the KC Aviar but got tired of how overstable it was. The Banger GT is stable, even in the wind, without a big hook at the end of the flight. The plastic has a soft feel but is not floppy at all. Just right. My KC Aviars were so stiff that they would sometimes hit the top or edge of the basket and just shoot off and I'd be left with a 20-30 foot putt after a miss. The soft X-line plastic absorbs the basket well and doesn't bounce off. I really hope Discraft decides to make a Z and ESP version.

When I started disc golfing I used a DX Aviar P&A. I tried a lot of different molds but I always came back to the Aviar P&A. I was a "spin putter" for many years until a few months ago when I switched to "push putting". Since becoming a "push putter" my putting has improved drastically & I've shaved quite a few strokes off my scores. I buy into Feldbergs putting philosophy & I've based my putting style off of his. I believe that harder/stiffer plastic putters come out of the hand cleaner & more consistently than soft/flexible putters. I also believe that beaded putters come out of the hand cleaner & more consistently. I putt with a KC Aviar for the reasons listed above & because they're easy to to acquire.

I use a Mercy for P&A duty. It just feels right in the hand. Mine is a Zero Hard plastic in a 174/175. I like the super stiff feel and you can really put the power on it for some shots that I would consider midrange as well. The only negative I have is this thing will roll! Be careful of the landing angles on this one!

I went throw the same thing you did and settled on pa1 300 series. Reason is stiff and TACKY! Pa4 for less stable but same feel.

Another one I'm surprised not mentioned was SWAN! I love the swan as well. But end of the day... PA1!

RFF Wizards...the floppier the better. I'm a spin putter, so I like a more overstable putter. I also approach with an SSS, and when the weather gets better, I'll drive with Med/Soft Wizards in the summer, in place of the SS/SSS's I use in the winter. The advantage of so many plastic and grip variations is amazing, and the ability to cycle them is just as good. They're just wonderful.

I tried a bunch of molds...DX Aviar, JK Aviar, Voodoo, Spike, Judge...but the Wizard was just better than all of them. I'd say the Judge was the closest, and if Wizards went away, I'd probably use them.

gummyish dx aviars, the blues and whites are typically my taste. dx aviars are very straight, decent glide, great to throw from the box, cheap and sold just about everywhere.

SS Warlocks for me. I started off with a DX Aviar P&A, but lost it on an errant drive and proceeded to try nearly every putter available until I settled on Warlocks. Very similar feel and flight to Aviar PnA's, but better feeling plastic. The bevelled wing feels good in hand, and the straight flight works well for me since I don't putt with a lot of spin or speed.
