[MVP] Ion vs Anode

Minimal for putting and upshots but they respond to angles slightly different at high power with Ions holding the release angle a little harder and anodes wanting to fly stable.

Anodes are pretty much 2nd run Ions (even a bit more OS to me) and for your noodle arm I think the Anode is a better choice unless you really like a big bead putter-- the feel is going to be the biggest difference and even then I have no problem at all putting with anodes.

Not huge. I always tell people to choose based on the feel, because in the end I think that will matter the most.

They both fly straight the majority of their flight. When they slow down is when you see the differences. The Anode continues pushing straight, while the Ion will fade out while it continues moving forward on the descent.

The Anode seasons to slightly understable quicker than the Ion, which seasons to dead neutral for a while before getting any turn.

The Ion will have a touch more wind resistance for drives and upshots, but the Anode isn't bad in this regard by any means.

For a dedicated putting putter I'd try the Anode first, for driving and upshots I'd pick based on feel.

These videos will illustrate how they respond to different release angles off the tee:

Mike would you agree the Anode is a little more beginner friendly for driving due to the smaller bead? Its no envy by any means but a touch more forgiving to a bad throw?

I have a friend who can drive the anode straight consistently but sometimes oats the Ion over badly to the right and wonder what you think about that regarding longer drives.

Thx. Was leaving towards the anode. Any preferences on plastic? I like the feel of the soft putters....at least for putting. May get a second disc in hard plastic for shorter drives/approaches.

Soft Proton Anode has been my go to driving putter for quite some time.

This is the kind of talk that made me get an Anode first. But it turns out I prefer a little fade when putting so I've just settled on the Ion again.

Like other have said. Feel in the hand due to the bead and Anode will stay straight where Ion will fade just a bit at the end. Although I will say the bead on the Ion doesn't feel as big as the bead on most putters. I usually don't like a big bead putter but I don't really notice it with my Ion.

Discspeed has posted a few times about how beaded disc don't like to be OATed, and when they are thrown with OAT the turn is more than the same throw with an unbeaded disc.

This is one of his posts.
"It should also be mentioned that a bead makes a disc slower to recover from OAT as well, so in this way it can accentuate a bad throw."

He has gone into detail to why but I can't find those posts right now.

I know if you OAT an Ion into a headwind it's not going anywhere.

I throw Anodes more than anything else in my bag and prefer this the other way round. Soft for drives and firm for putts. YMMV.

soft proton anode is a wonderful little disc. amazing finger spring for great spin at low speed, grabs chains like a mofo, truly i have seen no other disc simply stop spinning in the chains without causing lateral movement quite like the soft anodes/ions. the only comparison in terms of chain grabbing ability that i've thrown would be the current black firm OG wizards. soft protons have a little more LSS to them, it seems.

Anode for putting and envy for drives. Rounded rim is not for me. I am waiting for Axiom "Anode". Perhaps new understable putter too. Anode likes to fight out of slow anhyzer.

+1. Not always pumped about the results when I throw one, honestly, but I love putting with them.

Has anyone heard the butchered pronunciation "uh-NODE" - instead of "ANN-ode"? Where on Earth did "uh-NODE" come from? At least no one seems to be mispronouncing "Ion."
