So, each area has a local or two that is not sponsored by a manufacturer, who is it? It can be a player of any age, and whether they should be sponsored. Just interested to see what the best unsponsored players are.

Steve Kenton.

how are you going to figure out who the "best" unsponsored player is"

there are plenty of good local players here in mn that dont play tournys. how are we going to judge that?

I said players. I just was wondering who the best unsponsored players in different areas are.

Seems the easiest way to figure this out is look at the highest rated players by state, filter out those that have sponsors, and boom, you have the best unsponsored players in each state.

IMO, if you don't play tournaments, particularly PDGA events, you can't really make any claims to be the best of anything.

Probaly gonna be really hard to figure out, I agree. There are some local guys that are ridiculously good, but have responsibility at their jobs/family life etc, that I think would make it as touring pros for sure.

Some good players I have seen that haven't been picked up yet are guys like Brian Cook outta Washington, the most recent am worlds winner Jake Laputka.

Based on ratings in NC:

Brad Ramsey ~ 1011 - solid 1011 with lots of tournaments under his belt. Not a 1 and done high rating.
Me ~ 998
Hunter Todd ~ 995 but had been hovering at 1000 for ever...

Dont know Ronald Huffman that well @ 1007.
Dennis Young ~ 993 Great player

And by unsponsored I would count any type of sponsorships...even local head shop type stuff. I dont think the people I listed are sponsored by anyone I know I am not.

How do you filter by sponsors? A lot of people get sponsorships from local apparel and disc golf shops...including private courses. I think at Am Nats I was like the only one I played with with no type of sponsorship... There are a lot of 960 rated players out there with some level of sponsorship. You dont have to be listed on the Innova website to get some form of payment help or free merch from a local establishment.

Keith Warren is probably the Best Non-Sponsored disc golfer in the country, i have seen him play in A Tiers against top ranking pros in which he won 1st place consistently. He only plays a few tournaments a year though because he is always working, he doesn't even play leagues.. can't imagine how good he would be if he was a sponsored touring pro.

Hands down, he has natrual skill.

Well, I wasn't really suggesting that someone from CA should look up the players in MI and then try to figure out who of them is sponsored. But it's somewhere to start to narrow down the potential candidates in any given area (by someone in that area), and it beats the heck out of people just throwing out random names.

Shane Seal from MS is still sitting on his 1040 rating based on two rounds in 2011. Unlikely he's sponsored.

This can also include players that are juniors, or locals that deserve to be sponsored because of a specific reason
