Best Disc Golf Ambassador?

I love Simon Lizotte's energy in videos. I love Paul's smooth, all business personality, but I think Will Shusterick would be a good overall choice for someone to lead the charge for the PDGA. He has the willingness to teach, approachable personality, and the skills to back it up. Simon or Will would be my top 2 choices. Ack...Forgot about Nate Doss...he's awesome too!!!

My vote goes to John Houck and Jay Reading. Houck for all the reasons noted by Chuck and Jay for helping to introduce disc golf to thousands of new players with countless free coaching clinics, not to mention his invaluable leadership in the E.D.G.E. program.

Innova's team has quite a few great ambassadors...

The Readings, Jenkins, Climo, Finley, Wiggins, Sexton, etc.

Locally, no one has done more for West Virginia than Johnny Sias. He's designed the bulk of the courses out here and still directs tourneys while somehow finding time to win world championships. I wouldn't even know that disc golf existed if it weren't for Johnny!

Schwebby and MJ. Two of the nicest and most humble people in the sport.

Peple talk about McBeth, Lizotte, etc however these people are not good at PR (not strong infornt of the camera). McBeth is quiet and does not have a strong at public speaking. Same with Climo, he smiles and is friendly to talk to but is not a strong public speaker.

One person that surprisingly has received little mention is Feldberg. In front of an interview camera Feldberg is the ultimate professional in this sport. He has also had our biggest on-air exposure when he spent 15 minutes on the Conan O'brien Show. He also has shown a strong desire to be an ambassador for almost 10 years.

My top ambassadors...
1. Feldberg
2. Doss
3. Shusterick

I would also have to go with Will.... he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Paul is also stepping up here recently.... and of course Johnny Sias!

Ambassadors from the start were Steady Ed, Dave Dunipace, Mark Ellis and Scott Papa then you go to the Yeti and Des Reading , Ken Climo, Dave Feldberg, and now the newer group of Avery Jenkins, Nate Doss ,Will Shusterick, McBeth , Barsby is great . Val Jenkins, Paige Pierce for bringing the ladies to the game. Johnny Sias has been doing it for longer than any of the group. If you haven't heard of him, look him up and study the history of disc golf.

Jason Urroz aka DSCJNKY-originator of the the Nature Trail Disc Golf concept and former prez of WNC dg club in Asheville. He's been involved with getting tons of courses in the ground and getting dg clubs going in Asheville-area high schools.

I don't feel the pros grow the sport in any significant way. I think it's usually your friends that get you into it. I was probably several years in before i knew there were other pros not named Climo. Sure, we on here know all the names, watch all the videos, follow the NT scores, etc. but I think we're a pretty small percentage of the overall demographic.

I've been playing for some time, and I can really think of only a small handful of guys that I feel are true ambassadors, but they are so low key, most don't even know what, or how big their contributions are, most of which involves a lot of volunteer time working to improve local courses.

The best ambassadors are just the local guys/gals that love the game, and set a good example for others on the course or in the club. Many players probably don't know who Paul McBeth is.

This hits the nail on the head. Every time I hear the perpetual noobs, and fanboys prattle on about their favorite pros, I picture this:

John Houck has probably done more different things over 35 years that an ambassador would do. He's gotten more courses in the ground than anyone and in more different places. He started and ran the Worlds Biggest event for over 20 years which has helped get many into the game. He produced Millennium discs for several years, and was the head PDGA Commissioner promoting the game before the Internet. He was World Champion Freestyler (entertainer) and was one of the first promoters to run a series of DG events each year. All this while never being much of a DG competitor and still has never gotten a rating.

Thank you, Chuck. I appreciate that. And let the record show that Millennium was started by two people, the other being Harold Duvall, one of the greatest ambassadors and role models in the sport.

Thanks also to Gregory Lambert and Peter Black for their support.

In the Charlotte area I think Stan McDaniel, Bill Jacobson and several others have led the way with positive relationships with the park and rec departments which has lead to a large amount of solid courses in Mecklenburg county.

To me they are the best ambassadors to the sport in our area

This thread made me think of Timmy Gill. Does anyone know what happened to him? He's not on the Discraft ambassadors page anymore. He did a lot for the sport when I first started playing.

I may be a little off base, but as far as I know he's doing some course design around here, running a league, and doesn't compete much. I'm just getting back into the scene around here so others may have a better answer.

Alan Beaver being a long time Meck County parks guy certainly didn't hurt.
