Innova Backpack Bag

"Far better" materials is kind of a stretch. Even the cheap salient bag [ive been using once since b4 released and holding up fine...] is made of: 600 D Cordura ($55 dollars for a 20 capacity disc bag and 6 pack of drankz)

I was checking one out today at the local shop.
Seemed kinda legit for $90.

I would still rather use my Grip C14 or my LB Octothorpe

I just love how, so many of you have made so many discouraging comments, and are so quick to pass judgment, on something you know nothing about.

I just love how, you add, unnecessary, commas.... everywhere.

I don't think it's breaking news to anyone that a $90 bag would not be as high-quality as a $250 bag. The question is do you want to burn $250 for a backpack or will a $90 bag get the job done for you.

I play ball golf (12 hcp +/-) and I don't feel the need to buy a $300 staff bag. A middle-of-the-road cart bag works fine for me. But YMMV.

Honestly I see what you're saying but look at it this way- I got my Grip a couple years ago on a Black Friday sale for around $180, definitely below $200. From what I've read so far the Innova bag doesn't have a warranty, at least not that anybody knows about (if there is a warranty then my argument may be worthless!). So if after a few years you have to replace your Innova bag then at that point we've basically spent the same money.
My Grip has a lifetime warranty so I'm covered as long as I own it. So even if the Grip costs 2-3 times as much up front, you'd never have to pay for another bag out of pocket unless you wanted to.

A lifetime warranty does not mean they will replace it when the bag wears out..

But, I understand the point you were trying not to make and I'm along the same mindset of paying for quality and it lasting vs. buying cheap and replacing, equally themselves out.

You are 100% correct & I should have noted I meant a warranty replacement vs. wearing out.
But after carrying the Grip for a few years I fully expect a zipper to break, a seam to tear, or something like that before the bag ever gets so worn in that I feel like it needs replaced.
But again you are totally correct in your statement

So Paul just told smashboxx he's no longer with grip. Terry Miller said innova is currently working on a "higher quality" bag

Wow really? That's very surprising to me, given how well grip had supported Paul over the years. Innova must have stepped up big time (again)

To me its a money move due to his contract. Im excited about the new bag and to be honest, part of that is because of Mcbeth. I don't think grip will hurt too bad though. I love my grip I just got and so many pros still use them.

Side note: I just got the innova backpack for my friend and its pretty nice. It's definitely not the same as some ($200+) however it is a quality product. It was comfortable and accessible, plus it has good feet on the bottom. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking at the innova competition bag cause ur gonna have to get the backpack straps and I think the backpack itself is cheaper than both.

Edit: just checked the innova pro shop, weren't their comp and other bags available there? I only see straps.

Its not that much of a surprise. When you think about the best places for a company to get their logo noticed is on clothes and bags. With as much backing as Innova gives Paul they should have their logo placed in the most prominent spots especially if the goal is to increase live coverage for events. I was more surprised that they didn't push for this sooner.

Not a sell out move at all.. Why does innova need to make a GRIP bag?

Wonder how/if this will impact sponsorship for innova events from makers like GRIP.

My thoughts exactly. It seemed Grip and Innova always had a really close relationship before. This certainly will not help that relationship continue like before. If this was all about branding, Innova could just place their logo on a grip bag in the form of a patch. In ball golf, the manufacturer of a pro's bag is not always the huge logo on the bag. That space is sold like a billboard. I throw Innova discs, but this is not something of theirs that I would support.

On a side note, I can't really blame Paul though. Even though Grip has been a big supporter of his(they definitely have benefited from the relationship as well), this is not a high money sport. He should try to make as much as he can now because who knows how many years of competitive play he will have and it is not like he is raking even a million a year. Now if he was paid like other pro athletes, I might have a problem with him ditching Grip. Oh well, wouldn't it be nice to be in that situation myself (wistfully dreams of being a big time rich pro disc golfer).

Other sports/industries have similar models in that you are a full factory sponsored player.

Like pro skaters for example.

They will ride a board, trucks and wheels, etc all for the same manufacturer.

It's usually in a case like this where it's a big name and the company wants to keep them with a lucrative contract.

Take Jordan Spieth for example:
Spieth made $12.3 million, half of which came from off-course deals with Under Armour, AT&T, Rolex, Titleist and other sponsors, according to Golf Digest

Maybe GRIP will have a hand in the nicer bag from innova...?

Grip bags are in a completely different market. Buyers of $250 bags aren't going to be influenced much by endoresements, and if they are they'll pay $30 for a special edition.

The Innova bags will be on the shelves at Dick's with Paul's name on some of them. The Übermoms who spend $100 on North Face backpacks for their kids to haul their notebooks and gym clothes in will gladly dish out $89.99 so their kid can rock a backpack when he plays the summer camp course for two weeks a year.

I'm calling straight up BS on this. I've seen so many McBeth special edition Grips around this year its not even funny.
