"Discing Down"

I've been researching and are these (maybe) some other options? (Discs that haven't been listed)
Please let me know if you've tried some of these....

Discmania FD Jackal
Discraft Stalker
Discraft XPress
Discraft Zombee
Innova Cheetah
Innova Valkyrie
Legacy Patriot
Prodigy F5/F7
Lat.64 Jade

For the most part yes. The FD is going to River or Crave like, more straight/stable than a disc you'll be able to get much turn out of at your present D. The Cheetah is a great disc as long as you don't mind base plastic. Valk is a little faster but will show some turn especially once it wears. Patriot, F5, and F7 are good options (especially the F7). The Jade will be understable at any power, you might want to try the Diamond, which is faster (and basically a 150 class Underworld, very easy to hyzer flip and turn over, etc).

Thanks again for the feedback

2 other things stated earlier...

1. Would you recommend making a video and post it on DGCR to critique?

2. I probably should put the Wraith/Destroyer on the shelf now until i can build up more speed, correct?

If you like how the roc3 throws/feels in your hand, scoop a DX roc, shelve the roc3 til you beat that up and then you'll have 2 quite different mids in your bag.

Should I be throwing The Roc more then 230 ft.? Maybe a different disc would work better?

I like your idea though

I bet the glide from the DX will get you further on its own, then as it beats I'm and gets less OS it will go further as your form develops.

I don't have a real big arm. I throw mids on most shots 225-275.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think i might do just that

I would recommend getting a s-line and p-line fd you can break in the p quickly to get the turn you need and the star will be a great workable disc even at lower power.

Plus fd's are just amazing!

Alright so here's the deal.

I think i will be purchasing a VIP Underworld as well as 1 or 2 dx leopards practice form. I also may purchase a dx roc and beat it in nicely to pair with my roc3.

Oh and possibly a valkyrie as my distance driver for now
Sound OK?

Skip the DX Leopard (unless there is some need/want for it) and buy a Pro or Star. DX will beat in real quick. And I to would suggest the S-FD as a distance driver for your distance, you'll most likely throw it just as far as the Valkyrie and have more control.

If you wanna practice form get stacks of the mako or comet. The neutral of the neutral.

It'll show you exactly what your doing to it and may hint of why that roc3 flies so straight. While i don't consider the roc3 super stable, it should finish out fading unless well worn or various other reasons.

I think a underworld will be a wonderful driver for you for playing rounds because all practice isn't much fun. It bombs though. I really feel like its the glidest I've ever thrown.

Yes and yes. When I disced down, like you're doing now, I went to the store and picked up 2 putters and a midrange. 1 putter was my putting putter and the other was my driving putter. I ended up with a buzz and 2 wizards. I spend a month with those three discs and slowly introduced more discs. My personal goal was 230'-250' with a putter and as close to 300' with my mids. I don't get out more than once a week so there is still a fair bit of improvement I'd like to achieve but that, to this day, has been the best thing I've done.

I would try selecting neutral discs and then as you see needs fill them with other discs. Anything faster than a teebird is probably not going to benefit you right now.

It's also important to realize it won't necessarily hurt you tremendously to use faster discs it will simply delay the learning of how to throw properly. And last, overstable discs like a roc3 will mask wrist rotation on throws so I'd you throw a neutral disc and it veers off course it's you and not the disc.

Just to clarify: The roc3 is quite seasoned. (had it for 7 months) and it still has some fade (1 maybe) so maybe It was just my wording. I have thought about the Mako but it's just too much money for a 14 yr old to get stacks of the disc:(. Maybe when i get a better job.

However I do intend to play DG for a while and in a bit start playing tournaments so whatever it takes to improve my game:thmbup:

Thanks. Also upon more research the valkyrie isn't seeming as a good idea as i originally thought. As stated before i really want to work on my form to get to the point where i can compete in tournaments and eventually (after lots of hard practice) pick up that wraith and destroyer and be able to throw it well! I think i will go for the pro ones as for someone reason not a fan of star plastic.

Also does anyone know any players around my age (14) and what they used to learn?

VIP Hatchet around 166-168g. The glide is amazing so you will get easy distance. When you start turning it over, you can learn how to start hyzerflipping it. Then when it gets too flippy, you can use it for rollers. It is such a fun disc to throw and very versatile. I can throw mine almost as far as my pro Destroyers.

So I've been playing for about year now. I throw RHBH and was throwing a roc3 230 ft. and A Star Destroyer/Blizzard Wraith about only 250 ft. I realized that my arm was not quite up to speed with these two discs and am now going to "disc down." I have a Champion Teebird, and Champion gazelle being mailed right now and am looking for some other adequate Lower Speed Discs. I'm thinking speed 9, maybe 10 (max) and under would be sufficient? Sound Right? Anyway what discs do you think would be most beneficial for my game right now? By the way I am 14 5'2 and 90 LBS.

It is curious to me that you're throwing a Roc3 230 ft. and a Wraith only 20 feet further. My point on this is that everyone has a "point of diminishing returns", and yours is quite low. You're young and will build up strength as you grow, I understand.

So my advice would be to try to borrow (or buy) a DX Valkyrie, a DX Teebird, a DX Leopard or Gazelle, and go out and throw those with your Roc3 where you can measure distances. Schoolyards and open fields are good places to do this. Concentrate on good, correct form (watch videos and then practice to get this).

You will find that at some point you're not throwing any farther with the high speed disc. If you're not getting the Valkyrie consistently past the Teebird, but you ARE getting the Teebird past the Leopard or Gazelle, then you're starting to get your point of diminishing return.

Then go from there. As you grow and get older, you'll work into those longer discs, so don't discard them.

My first disc was a wraith (not such a smart idea) and i think i just learned to compensate for that by putting a whole ton of anny on it. When i got my roc3 i figured out to hyper flip it and starting improving on my distance with the disc a lot. At that time I tried to hyper flip the wraith and it turned into a skyhyzer. It still went the same distance as before but it felt like it could go a lot longer.

This may seem like not a great question but I still have to ask it. Are you supposed to hyzerflip distance drivers for or not? With more arm speed eventually will I be able to Hyzerflip the wraith?

As stated before I will store these discs (wraith, destroyer) until I build up correct form
Unfortunately borrowing discs isn't a viable options as I live in British Columbia (where no one plays my age) and don't know any locals that well

How much hyzer for the hyzer flip of the roc3? Did you always have to hyzer flip it or did that start as it broke in? Whats the weight of the roc3?

Everybody is different, but there are pros and long gun ams that can toss a putter 400 ft flat.

Youll find as your form improves/ changes discs will change too. One day your hyzer flipping a roc3 220, in a month you could be throwing that same disc flat 300 ft with fade.

I think at first when i got the roc3 i was trying to throw it like my wraith with all that anny. To answer your question i've been hyper flipping that for 5 of the 7 months i've had it. The roc3 is 173 grams. I don't need a ton of hyper to get it to hyper flip. (not sure how to calculate that)

These comments of yours say a lot about form issues. So what I would suggest now is to follow 4peat World Champion Paul McBeth's advice: get a Nova and practice your form with it. McBeth says that if he's not throwing the Nova good and straight, then he needs to do some practice to get his form back in top shape. I'm following that advice by taking my Nova out and practicing with it. Throw it flat, level and straight and one should get a really straight throw. It's helping me a lot to practice with it, and I think it'll help your form to do the same. Just my $0.02 on that.

Alright. Like the idea.

Anything that I should be specifically doing to help my form
