How I broke the 500 foot barrier

Regardless, if you threw 300 ft or 480 ft it doesn't matter to me. If you feel like you accomplished or improved upon your form this week, awesome!

I know I took something away from this and I think it's going to improve my form.

Thank you, well said, my thoughts too. Good luck!

This is why I dislike all the hating. I don't care if this guy threw a 200' noob hyzer. It was his longest throw to date, he knows what he changed, and he's giving us valuable insight; not necessarily in technique (we know to work around the disc), but in perception! The exact reason we don't make mandatory minimum posts, years playing, verified certification of DG coaching, etc. We want to hear EVERYONE'S experiences. He didn't just tell someone how to throw farther. He told us how to tell people to throw farther.

But w/e. You guys want to try to rain on a parade, you're beating your head against a wall. He's going to go throw 500' tomorrow and remember why your words didn't bother him. And you're not going to feel any better about your lack of commitment that ultimately determined your distance barrier.

HooooooooooWeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Without seeing proof who knows maybe he throws 200'.

Maybe he was trying to share some insight on his accomplishment and MAYBE he doesn't need to prove a thing to you. Maybe proving something to a career troll who hides behind his screen name doesn't mean a thing. Keep bein' brave little fella'!

Maybe lol. I don't think he's letting it go to heart like you atleast since there's nothing to be upset about. So cringey.

Maybe it's a matter of most people not putting in the work but I highly doubt that a "vast majority" can get to 400.

The bolded is correct. Its not always a matter of putting in the work tho. In some regions their just aren't any crushers to learn from. I've seen it happen multiple times. One 500' foot throwing local produces a bunch more in a few years.

Pertinent Facts Concerning 500+ Foot Shot

1. Free weights and Therabands every other day for the last 10 months (except when strained)
2. Average about 2 hours throwing every other day for last 10 months
3. 5 years prior joint and tendon conditioning (Qi Gong)
4. Study and note taking for the last 10 months concerning Disc Golf mechanics
5. Beat Pro Destroyer -Hyzer Flipped- 170 g

I didn't get lucky. You'll get your video.

I learned awhile back that throwing maxd every day was detrimental. Seems your twitch muscles need time to recover properly?

Well regardless if you throw 500', this was really eye opening and after messing with it a little bit I can already tell it's going to help me immensely. So, thanks for that.

Probably could use a break but I've got disc golf madness.
I try to throw 6 or 7 then fetch to give myself a mini-break
and because it's supposedly the sweet spot of short term memory:D

Gave it a shot today. What really helped was setting the disc (McBeth and Doss both do it) by pushing it away a bit on step 1-2. That alone added ~20 feet. More work to do.

Good to hear:thmbup:

Noticed today more clearly that the explosive hip twist to bring the disc into the power pocket is 'phase 1' of the classic continuous acceleration fundamental. Where the hip twist/elbow drive overlap is I can't say at this point.

Timing was a little spotty today... sometimes disc was heavy, sometimes it slipped. All with a sprinkling of grip lock. 499 was longest throw today... trolls won this round ;)

 Before the legs cross? I'm very interested because there seemed to be so many little tweaks to be had today... a bit overwhelming.

For me it was on step 1.5, right before I cross. For my form it seemed to be good timing. My reach back isn't as exaggerated as others, though. But it's natural to me.

Cool, thanks. I'll work on the push out a half beat earlier and later next time out.

I'm intrigued...really excited to try this tomorrow, particularly since I've just started over with my other arm!

I think I accidentally, partially, figured this out a couple years ago while watching a Will Schusterick video. When I applied what I saw, which was actually reaching back MORE, I instantly saw an increase in distance, accuracy and a feeling of a smooth release. What I probably ran into was this, that I was moving my body around the disc to achieve the sense that I was reaching back more, and i didn't even realize it. Over the last year, I actually LOST that, and couldn't find it again to save my life.

I couldn't be more jazzed to give this a whirl tomorrow.

Holy crap...okay, I can't speak to whether or not this will show in my work tomorrow, but I just noticed I reach back waaaaay earlier than the guys in the videos. I've been reaching back when my plant foot is down for the step before it plants (5 sec in the lead card vid). These guys are "reaching back" when the non-plant foot comes down (8-9 sec in lead card vid). Just trying that motion in my living room, I can see how that would help. It'd keep my eye on the target longer, maintain my momentum better and generate much more of an explosive coil and release.

Knew this guy was lying about 500 ft! :)
