How many people play disc golf in the snow?

USE THE STRING TECHNIQUE!!! Im tellling you people back east. It works and its not a hinder on the game. Take it from someone who knows already.

besides the string techinique, any other advice for snow playing [chicago guy here]

24 inches of colored construction string ( orange, blue, green) or the same length of X-mas wrapping ribbon duct taped to the bottom of my discs works well. It's not fool proof, though. Sometimes a disc hits a snow bank and the string winds up like a yoyo. Still gotta watch those discs. I like to leave my bag in the trunk or set in on the porch for an hour or so before throwing in the snow. Snow sticks to warm discs, less so for discs at outdoor temps.

I set up my 3-4 primary drivers with string and leave the putters/mids alone.

The string does act like a kite tail...discs behave more overstable. Carefull not to let the string get tangled in your glove. I dress a little on the cool side, I've found I warm up nicely after trudging 2-3 holes. Sweating under multiple layers at 15 degrees is not so pleasant when I get to the back nine.

Good to see all the MI boys chime in on this topic.

Heeeeyyyyyyy!!!!!!:(

JK ;)

We use 5-6' of curly ribbon in any dark, bright color taped to the bottom of the dic with alternating layers of duct and electrical tape. I also use all my older X and DX discs in red, orange, pink, or neon green. If I lose a DX, no biggie, although none of us have lost a disc in the winter yet.

What kind of ribbon and how long I can't believe I'm considering this! I'm gonna have my pretty bright discs with ribbons!!!!

not ribbons, string. ribbons wind up and then effect the flight of the disc. Use bright colored string, preferebly knitting yarn, and make it about 2-3ft depending on the depth of the snow. its wierd and takes some getting used to, but when your disc dives into the snow, the yarn will be sticking out and you just grab it and pull your disc out.

You got your **** dialed in, bro!

I had never played disc golf before August...I'm really really addicted.

I will be playing in the snow. Pretty sure about that.

I tend to play the most DG in the winter...non of us here in Wisco even bother with taping string or ribbon to our discs that I know of...I have tried the ribbon/string thing but cant stand it, it just in the way of all the movment of throwing IMO...

one of the best winter tourney's up here is the "Snow Throw Massacre" normally in Feb but every time there has been at least a couple feet of snow on the ground and the turn out is around 100 people and for the most part no body really ever loses to much plastic...in the last 3 years I've only lost one disc in the snow so far

Played today in the snow, temp was mid 30's and cold wind, but do-able. When my son and I got at the coarse must have been 30 cars in the parking lot of people playing at 11 am. The coarse league plays every Sunday 8-11am Sept to March.

Advice on cold weather playing and snow? Wear the right clothes that don't limit your movement. I avoid coats and jackets, turtle neck and a good wool sweater. I don't wear golves, I walk with my hands in my jeans to keep them from freezing. A hand warmer would work good. Your ears start to freeze from the cold wind, so wear something. When you get back in the heat your ears feel like they are on fire. Good waterproof boots, if your feet freeze or hurt your done! Most important, don't expect to play your best game or top your high score for the coarse. You work more on your control, release and clean lines. Distance drives and putting seem to go to crap. Don't get pissed because your score is so high. It's still fun and worth going to play, it's just different. Try to play at the warmest part of the day and bring sun glasses, the snow reflects the light like crazy. When the snow gets to deep? Wait for Spring.....laughing.:D

well, in the deep snow its a 20 dollar difference depending on the plastic

Further evidence that Wisconsin disc golfers are HARDCORE!!! All ya gotta do is keep a very close eye on your & your group's discs & all is good. I've found a few in the snow (no name, no number + snow = not smart), but never lost any.;)

im playing through the winter. just played today actually. 37 degrees out and i shot my best score yet of -4 with a double bogey.

In Wilmington, NC it does not snow every year. Once every few years we'll get a good snow.
Last year it snowed about half an inch, so me and my DG buddy went out to the home course and played while it was snowing. THAT WAS A BLAST!!!

well Saturday morning here in central Tex. we had sleet, it covered the ground real good. we started at day break and threw 18. the temp was about 25, not what we are used to here in TX. I guess that's as close as we'll get!

It's snowing tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow if I play in the snow.

I live in Pennsylvania and I occasionally play in the snow. I find myself doing a lot more sidearm throws because I have trouble getting my footing down for RHBH throws in the snow. Playing while it's snowing is the best!
