[Question] A Pro-D Stratus is good forrrr?

I just picked up a Pro-D Stratus on a whim today because it was cheap and it occured to me i hadnt really heard much about it. I dont normally dig Pro-D as it wears too quickly but i just grabbed it to check it out. Also, I'm working on my roller game lately and thought it might be good for that. Does anyone rock a stratus? If so any tips are apperciated. If not, throw me some cons and save me some time figuring them out on my own.

On a comparative note, my current roller/Hflip disc is a Star Roadrunner. If they are any way comparable thats a good frame of reference for me right meow. Thanks!
 
The (Elite-X) Stratus was one of my first disc purchases. It's understable, and I use it for anny/turnover shots.

It's also a mid, so it's not in the Roadrunner's speed range, but they're both understable as a commonality.
 
Oh wow. I didnt even notice that it was a mid. Its listed as a fairway driver online and the disc says long range... wow. Yeah, that profile surely is a mid. Thank you for that. Well, ill see how i like it for turnovers but really ive always used my X Buzzz for those. RHBH at least, maybe ill drive it RHFH for huge long turnovers. Cool. Thanks! :)
 
It's got some glidey goodness, for sure. Wife/girlfriend disc? Also, it could be a roller after some wear.
 
It's really a tweener mid/fairway. Great for long floaty anny lines that weave through the trees like a Jedi 74-Z speeder bike. Until it hits a few trees and then....

Yes. Maybe some advertising license or embellishment there. Both Infinite Discs and Disc Golf Center list the Stratus as speed 5, and Marshall Street's Flight Guide puts it in the speed 5 range, as well. My own experience with it agrees with those general numbers.

It does have some glide, and can be "sneaky long" like the VCobra.

I've never tried it as a roller. Hmmm, might be interesting...

Well, kinda. Driver nose, mid rim. Old school when even "drivers" had narrow rims like todays mids.
 
I need the put my stratus back in the bag. Last time I bagged it I hadn't yet developed a good hyzer flip.
 
A Stratus has a lot in common with a Stingray. Both are understable and both were considered drivers for a long time. Because of the glide you get out of them they are really long mids unless you overpower and turn and burn them, so they are really tweener mid/fairway drivers to me.

My daughter still rocks a Stratus as her turnover driver; it gets sneaky long for her.
 
I definitely remember an ITB that included a Stratus. That particular pro used it for awkward stances, and generally insane flip shots. It's got a great nose for rolling, too.

For me the Stratus was the ultimate beginner driver. It was the first disc that made me feel like "I can do this". Throwing it 250' and straight seemed like an amazing accomplishment.

Stingray is a good comparison, though my star Stingray is surprisingly stable and a useful straight mid. Not nearly as understable as the DX ones I've owned.

I think thats my problem on this one. I took it to the field before a round and gave it a few throws amongst the others and geeeeeeeeeez this thing is sooooooooo understable! Like... unbelievably US. I mentioned in "how i played today" that this thing is gonna be some kind of specialty shot disc because it really turned over just immediately... i mean its almost got a spiral to it. I couldnt get a good roller out of it because it turned over before it got any distance or direction. So, as you said, if overpowering it causes turn and burn then thats what im looking at. ill have to spend some time on it for sure.

That being said, and as others suggested, it might end up in my daughters bag... if i could get her to pick it up to begin with.

Maybe this will be her "i can do this" disc. :)
