How to not destroy my throwing hand on distance shots?

I'm at a monster of a course, plays along a ball golf course. Massive fairways.

Started out having a blast. Problem is I coulen't even make it to the back 9 without my hand going to ****.

The tip of my middle finger is my rip point. Its layers of calluses and blood blisters. Its swells up and hurts and takes at least 50' off my backhand distance shots if not more.

I've tried putting nuskin on before every round. Didn't work. Thinking about trying a glove or something. It severely limits my ability to practice distance throws :/

I've used athletic tape, it helps with the hard spots on my fingers, but killed sensitivity for putting.

I've actually changed the pressure of my grip to avoid such bad cracking... I get it on my middle finger where the nail connects. We all have different thicknesses and lengths of fingers, so grip pressure points will vary.

I wish I could drag you to a field and try to modify a few of your angles. I believe you could still unlock another 100'.

Agreed on that last part. I feel like some of my mechanics are able to produce 600' throws but I'm held back by a few bottlenecks. I've been experimenting with 360 throws and they show promise, but I don't want to use that as a crutch to consistently throw 550-600.

Was a rough round. Had to drain the blood twice to play and throwing 13-18 hurt like hell.

Might try some tape.

RFrance, thanks for the friction glove link. Might order one later tonight.

I'm surprised there's that much pressure on your middle finger. I'd recommend MJ's fan grip.

I would heat up a needle then puncture and drain the blood blister then wrap it with athletic tape. Popping the blister will help eliminate most of the pain. Find something to remove the calluses off the ends of your fingers and you won't have to worry about blisters again.

My index finger pad looked about half that bad a while ago, I played with a band aid around my fingertip every time for about a year...it prevented it from coming back. Took a little bit to learn to ignore the feel against the flight plate on putts. Nate Doss seems to always have his index finger taped up when he's on the course.

I'm sure you've thought of something that simple, hopefully it can wrap around that high on your finger. My point though is that something that thin was able to prevent further damage and allow healing while still playing a normal amount.

My index finger is starting to get a callus. Later in the season I expect blisters as I got last year. Im thinking of putting a little super glue on it at the start of the round to harden that area and maybe keep it from getting worse.

What course were you playing? Wondering if it was the one in Germanton and what you thought of it.

I'd probably try these things since it'd be cheap:

Finger cots, maybe lube the finger up with some O'Keefe's working hands (my dad's hands crack like crazy and O'Keefe's (green jar) is a necessity for him) to keep your finger from drying out and heal faster. I imagine one cot on your finger will be a lot cooler than wearing gloves in NC heat.

Other than disc golf, do your hands get much other heavy grip work?
Like pull-ups, weightlifting, shoveling, concrete work, grip and lift/pull, etc ?

It is my long belief that the average person's hands needs a frequent grip load for the skin and hand to perform at its best. If the only time one is gripping for an infrequent task, I would expect more skin injuries and troubles.

A barbarian toughen up enough routine might be a few sets of pull-ups day, finger push-ups, bucket carrying up and down steps, driving and removing screws by hand, and finger digging through buckets of gravel.

... as long as I am babbling in an interest area if mine

To get a big hardy barbarian grip.. more exercises:
-cinder block carry / lifting with various grips
-2 1/2 - 3 inch 'Large' diameter handed dumbbell or kettle bell weight.
- a heavy paving block/brick for pinch lifts and forearm work

(I do believe elastic resistant bands and hand gripper toys are garbage not congruent with human design. Wood chopping and splitting is cool, but it is a hazardous risk to get into. Much technique to do right and sloppy mistake can hurt. Hats off to anybody that does more than a campfire without a machine.

Interesting discussion -- I always thought with a 4 finger power grip the fingers release sequentially starting with the pinky ending with the index finger. My index finger always has a thick callous where the disc rips out and have never had any blisters or bleeding issues.

I could see some sharp flashing causing index finger irritation but I get rid of that right away if I buy a disc that has it. Is your grip a traditional 4 finger power grip?

Either four finger power grip or three. On a lot of drives my pinky comes off before the hit, its just a thing I sometimes do subconsciously.

Don't think its flashing, most mvp/axiom discs have it on the wing instead of the bottom of the rim.

I wonder if I could change my grip and get the disc to rip off my index finger.

Either way while I let it heal I'm going to shop for gloves and pick one to test out.

This is going to offer no help to you, but I use a modified 4 finger power grip and also rip off of my middle finger instead of my index finger. My finger doesn't currently look like yours, but I have had similar issues in the past. No idea why my middle finger takes the abuse and not my index, but I have sort of given up on trying to fix it.

This grip would certainly take the middle finger out of play and force the index finger to be the rip finger -- they still come off sequentially but more of a group move prior to the indx finger rip. I was thinking how great it would be to have a high speed camera shooting up from the Ground to see various grip releases of the pros in super slow motion. And it would be interesting to see Mike's grip/release to see exactly what's going on.

Another thing I'd like to see someday is a disc with pressure point sensors that could capture pressure measurements of each finger and the thumb during the throwing process, with the ability to download the data and graph the 5 finger pressure points. It could graphically show the lbs of pressure of each finger from start to finish. Now that would be a very very cool analysis tool!

In addition those... Two 10 pound plates in each hand with the flat sides out. Hold them between your thumb and fingers by your side for as long as you can.

I'm really liking my Friction Glove because it helps my grip but it would definitely protect your finger tips. Might be worth checking out. http://http://www.frictiongloves.com/store/c9/Disc_Golf.html

^^ 100% concur with this. I was getting blisters every time I played before I started using mine. I haven't had one since. I even switched to Bonapane grip recently with no issues.

Note that after playing with them for 3 1/2 months, I did have to wash off the mud buildup from the palm of them.

Some discs do this to me. I'd suggest softer plastic. Like a star or gstar, and maybe a disc without a sharp edge. I seem to recall the halo having a slight slant in the lip that would make it rip out a little easier.
