Has Dynamic Discs peaked?

I use typical sanding sponges with medium to fine grit for all my sanding. Try it yourself to see that it does improve the hand feel of the discs.

I've got a #100 medium sponge sitting on the shelf, and it knocks big impact burrs right off with just a couple of gentle swipes. Good stuff.

In regards to the flashing that people have mentioned, I am very liberal in the use of sandpaper on my discs.

When I get in a new order of discs, and choose one to try out, the first thing I do is look it over and sand out any rough or sharp edges on the outer and bottom rims.

It is my opinion that most every disc can use a bit of work to improve it. After all, these things are being mass produced, and it is not likely that any will be perfect out of the box.

I find that drivers generally need less work to get into a comfortable feel and condition. My DX and KC Pro Rocs, on the other hand, always require extensive sanding all along the outer rim to get rid of the line that results from the molding process.

Most of the people that I talk to about sanding discs have never tried it themselves before. But, when they feel the ones that I have sanded, and then hold a new disc out of the box, they admit that the difference is significant.

I'm one who has never sanded a disc, so you have my attention. Thx.

1) Is the above process 100% PDGA legal?
2) Does the flight change (before and after the sanding)?

Yes as is melting slivers back on smoothly.
It increases the glide and knocks off a bit of fade from what I've experienced.

1. I will defer to other more knowledgeable persons concerning whether it is PDGA legal.

I do know that Nate Sexton has stated in a 2016 In The Bag video that he uses a sanding sponge and nail clippers to take burrs off of discs during competitive rounds (10:09 in the video below).

2. Drivers can become more understable when flashing is taken off the bottom of a disc, as I am sure you know.

There doesn't seem to be a difference in my DX/KC Pro Rocs before and after sanding the outer edge.

I putt and throw Hard Shields, and beat them up pretty good. None of my Shields get sanded when brand new, because they feel fine out of the box. If I were going to play a round with a different mold, like a DX Aviar, then there is a good chance that they will be sanded.
My Shields are quite high speed stable when brand new, but quickly become less stable as they get beat up. Sanding the outer and bottom edges takes off the rough stuff, and changes the texture to a nice velvety feel. I think that for some reason the stability comes back on a Shield a bit also after sanding, though I cannot say why this would happen.

Thx.

"A disc which has been modified after production such that its original flight characteristics have been altered is illegal, excepting wear from usage during play and the moderate sanding of discs to smooth molding imperfections or scrapes. Discs excessively sanded, or painted with a material of detectable thickness, are illegal."

Anyone have a link to an article, video describing the process? I'm just curious how much sanding we can get away with...while keeping the disc legal. Thx.

Really, it's common sense. Don't change the shape of the disc. Flashing is not part of the disc, it is a production artifact, it is fine to remove it completely.

I just got into dyeing and have been ordering a few white premium-plastic x-out Discs that I can actually benefit from throwing and will take dye well. So there's a lot of sifting going on in the retailer's websites to match all that criteria. I was sitting in my BIL's easy chair on Thanksgiving and encountered Dynamic's website. While sifting through their selection, I encountered one that met all that criteria and decided to pop on it.

It was $10.99 and FREE SHIPPING. Just for one Disc! So far elsewhere I've had to buy multiples to save on shipping.

There was also a problem with my address and they sent me an e-mail personally and politely. They responded quickly and politely again thanking me and assuring it was in the mail tomorrow.

Got the Disc two business days later. It's my first-ever Trilogy Disc (a Lat 64 Gold Compass). It's perfect for what I'm doing. I don't know if it will replace my 7-year-old ESP Buzzz or not in the starting lineup; we'll see.

I left a comment that I was looking forward to dyeing it and somebody at DD inked a smiley face next to that on my invoice. There was also a card featuring a smiling Page Bjerkaas included, kind of like having a sports card to collect.

I was very impressed with their customer service, their happy presentation, their Disc, and the fact I could order just one and get free shipping. Guess where I'm going to be ordering all of my dye Discs from now on?

I'm not some sort of fanboy or anything, just going on tangible factors that all lined up happy. For many years I just threw what I knew and that started back when it was only Innova and Discraft (Lightning not counting). DD has risen up to the others in my mind. Not peaked. And just from one customer interaction. Well done.

Your disc was pulled and packed by Paige Bjerkaas (Shue now) herself. She's working in the store through the winter. That's her smiley face :)

In other DD news, I hope they do have another significant signing coming because I know they are losing another player, though this one isn't a big name yet.

Please don't tell me DD is seriously making their #1 FPO player work the store/warehouse through the winter. Future DD sponsorships, read the fine print about the off season. wow....

Making? Why the hell would think they're making her do it?

She has worked at the retail store in Emporia since she enrolled at Emporia State (before she decided to tour full time). What is wrong with her going back to that during the off-season if she wants to do so?

I mean, she's there because her family is there. Her mom works in the store. Her dad works at the distribution center. Maybe she, I don't know, enjoys hanging out at the store and pulling orders? Seems like a fun job to me (of course, half my job is working in a disc golf retail store so maybe I'm biased).

Heard a rumor Zach Arlinghaus is considering leaving. That would be a hit on their future.

Yep....Sounds like great fun and I'm guessing all of the elite FPO players would jump at a chance to work in the store/warehouse, or maybe some would just prefer to jump...ship. ;)

I see nothing wrong at all with working in a warehouse. I supervise one myself (for the vending machine industry). Good for her not feeling like an honest day's work is beneath her!

To be clear, she's not at the warehouse. She's at the retail store downtown.

Not that there's anything wrong with working at a warehouse, but it's important to differentiate because she's doing more than just pulling internet orders. She's interacting with folks who come into the store to shop in person. That's not a bad promotional tool for herself or the DD brand in general.

Not to mention that Emporia is a disc golf mecca with tons of great courses to keep her sharp. Sounds like a perfect offseason to me.

Lol. Paige Bjerkaas has worked at the DD store for a long time. Nothing to see here.
