Ricky Wysocki #38008

When you were on DD? As in sponsored by them? If so, then you've probably thrown a much larger sample size than me. I just know that the 2 Lucid Defenders I have are at least as overstable as the 2 Lucid Enforcers I used to have. Ive never thrown a Stiletto, but I think I've thrown enough PD2's, Destroyers, XCals, and Nuke OS's to say that these 2 Lucid Defenders started out as your standard meat hooks. Maybe that's not normal. Those Lucid Enforcers did break in to be money forehand discs, but I get more distance from a wider rim. The 3 Bio Enforcers I had broke in to have quite a bit of turn for me. I don't remember the one Bio Defender I had ever getting flippy like the Enforcers eventually did.

Yeah, I was with them from 2008 through 2018. I was never a great pro, but I got lucky and got picked up by them back when they were a t-shirt vender that put their logo on other manufacturers' discs, and just kinda hung on on the team for a while after they started getting big.

When they started making discs I kinda went through a phase of going disc-to-disc-to-disc looking for something to specifically replace my Star XCalibers. I went from the World to the Enforcer to the Defender. It sounds like you may have spent more time with the Bio versions of the discs than I did. I've never been a big fan of plastics that beat in a lot - so I threw a lot of the Lucid Defenders/Enforcers which seemed to hold stability longer.

It also may have to do with how I throw. I've always been a big fan of a more pronounced nose-up release (for two reasons: 1) I like throwing low shots and getting ground play and 2) I feel like I get more reliable stability out of my entire range of discs). So the differences in high speed stability might be negated a bit by that, while I'd still see a more pronounced difference in the finishes - which is where the numbers indicate the Enforcer is the beefier disc.

Pretty sure McBeth line discs are mainly molds Discraft had around already (retired/Ace Race/unreleased prototypes/DGA based). Cost savings for McBeth to stand up his line with existing molds.
Malta -> Nebula
Zeus -> Kong
Luna -> Roach/Steady BL
Anax -> Tsunami/Avenger
Hades -> Tempest

IMO, this is not true. I don't think the Malta matches up with the Nebula, at all. The Kong is literally the Zeus, renamed. The Roach and the Steady BL are pretty close, I don't think the Luna is a match for either.

I am not familiar enough with the others to say.

In general, are Ricky fans …fans of the player or fans of Innova? Curious to watch his putting with Daggers. Supposed to be legendary. I should look up old tournaments.

I would guess if somebody was a Wysocki fan, the plastic would come and go. He started out as an Innova player and was one of the original Prodigy jumpers. He was I think the first of the Prodigy jumpers to bail when he went to Lat 64. He was with Lat 64 for about four years, then back to Innova for three years. I think the timeline was 2 years with Innova/2 years with Prodigy/4 years with Lat 64/3 years with Innova/? years Dynamic.

That would be a lot of "replace everything in your bag to be a Wysocki fanboi" if you had been on the roller coaster from the start. :|

I enjoy watching professional players throwing discs. Several of them seem kinda cool so I'm kinda fans of them - Barsby, Conrad, Sexton, MJ, come to mind.

Wysocki does not offend me so I enjoy watching him throw discs. I won't be running out to buy any of his signature discs though.

It's just about time for me to add a backup Lucid-X Felon to the shelf, so I probably will be buying a Ricky stamped disc as soon as they do the next run. But other than that, my thoughts mirror yours pretty much 100%

I'm flush with Firebirds, really beefy champion and more mellow color glow. Does that make me a Climo fanboy? The Champ seems reasonably cool.

I immediately became a Barsby fan after seeing the iron leaf video.

I'm glad to hear his tour mgr was such a big part of his offseason and will be taking even more responsibility off him this coming year. I agree with his assessment that more players will (or should) hire someone to help with business/social media, which are basically the same thing nowadays.
Plus I actually like her enthusiasm/volume during events. We're not bolf, go ahead and get loud if that's who you are.

Yeah, I still do the old-fashioned thing of deciding what I want to throw. If there is a cool stamp or nice plastic or something on a signature version of something I throw, I might buy it. I'm not buying a disc I don't throw because it's got somebody's name on it.

I wonder what your opinion is on "growing the sport" then. If you're not willing to support the pros simply because you won't throw their disc, what is your contribution to the game?

Maybe you TD, or work on the clean-up crew of your local course, but financial support is still something many of these players need.

Buying discs is never going to make me broke, so I have no problem considering my purchases as benefiting the disc golf community as a whole.

I like watching Ricky play. Massive putts and battles with Paul. I might have bought a Pig because he used one and I needed that slot filled anyway. I also bought a Compass somewhere along the line, and it was ages before I noticed that it had his 2x signature on it.

Wonder if he'll be encouraged to use more Dynamic molds since that's who he's sponsored by? Between that and new molds released it'll be interesting to see if his setup will look much different than a few years ago.

Ricky was throwing a lot more forehand back then too. Dunno if he was improving his game all around or what, but it seems like when he went back to Innova he started throwing a lot more backhand tee shots and seemed to gain some distance.

Maybe it was because none of the trilogy drivers were beefy enough😂😂😂

That's me too. I bag a Felon so I'll likely buy a SockiBomb Felon at some point

I certainly agree with your premise generally, and I'll buy stuff I don't need for that reason also, but a dude who just signed a contract worth 4.25 million over 4 years is probably ok financially (with or without me).

I agree....I want discs that work for me and I'm not a collector hoping the value of the disc will increase so I can make a profit.

I have a Wysocki Tour Series Pig (which is different than the other Innova Pig discs). Why? Because a friend suggested it would work for my forehand upshots. And it did, until I lost it for a while. I couldn't get another anywhere because it is only produced in limited numbers. So I switched to the DGA Breaker....except for the Wysocki Pig thumb track...it works just as well for me AND I can easily get replacements.

So, I'll think about getting a signature disc if it fits my needs, but I will also see if another disc that is easier to get will fill the spot.

What do you think will be first? I know he used the dagger for putting in the past but I would think Dynamic would prefer he have a putter with Dynamics Logo. So I'm leaning towards a signature putter line.

Ricky is a big enough star that he can probably "request" DD create whatever type of disc he wants. The Innova Wysocki Tour Pig isn't the same as the other Innova Pigs....it had a flatter top. He could easily say to DD, I want an approach putter as close to the Wysocki Tour Pig as you can legally make. Do you think they would say no - you have to use what we have available?

Debatable. If there's no one to come play at a course I build, what good have I really done. Manufacturers/pros have a much wider reach than me/my local club.

The point is, if you're only buying discs you will throw, you are not putting any money into the sport, and money is what truly grows things in this country.

Signature discs and tour series discs cost more than regular discs, right? So if someone purchases those kind of discs and throws them, they are in fact putting money into the sport.

That said, I also believe doing other things like running a club or TDing tournaments contributes more to the sport overall than buying discs.
