DGPT All-Star Weekend 2021

This feature wasn't available on mobile, meaning when we jumped in late today, it's better to just wait until TOMORROW when they finally upload the whole thing.

I am perfectly happy with the job Jomez, CCDG, and all the others do to bring me DG coverage. Live is suuuuch a bad idea.

Anyone who has ever played a tournament knows this. These aren't slick events that run like a Swiss watch, and the folks doing the live coverage even less.

And it is the fault of noboby. Shoewstring budgets compared to the giant moiney of CBS or NBC that can pull it off neatly in ball golf.

Card coverage is better anyway. That is where you experience the drama unfolding.

Were walkers, joggers, bikers much of an issue?
There is always the potential lengthy waits at Fountain Hills and with "live" coverage, that could suck.

Saturday the final hole tough shot Ricky first parked the hole and Kevin sailed his forehand out to the sea. Pretty much a re-tee since it was over OB the whole time. Rickys shot comes in wide right, takes a skip, hits a person standing right on the OB line and stays inbounds.

Kevins second shot was even worse IIRC. They would have taken even bigger number if not for a person who cannot evade a disc coming straight at them. -_-

Yesterday was more entertaining, but still lacking. Paul and Calvin were on fire. Look out people in Vegas.

Eagle and CDick were shooting pretty well too but not quite the same level as those two.

James was turning over a lot of his distance driver shots. (Except for that one amazing 550 park job flex shot) I see his decline steepening this year if he doesnt dial them in quickly.

GG and Catrina still cant putt to save their lives.

Ricky and Kevin I dont know whats up with them.

Edit: was there a prize? Never found out about that anywhere, nor did i hear it on air. Cant imagine those players there just for the fun of it, and a made up title.

Cats putting last 10holes was horrible.
Paige is still "miss OB"

Yes JC needs to learn his drivers...fast
When it matters, Paul makes the putt

Same question as above, was there a big price or WHY did all the best players come to this "strange" event??

There was a decent prize pool posted at some point, but I can't find it now. 2-3k for first maybe? I'm sure that a few of them wanted to be called the "inaugural all-star champion." Thankfully this event is actually a real event instead of many all-star events (I'm looking at you NFL/NBA).

I don't go out of my way to watch Conrad, but it seems like that if he misses, that seems to be his miss, even with his staple Innova molds.

Greatest clutch putter of all time

That's what I always saw in previous years too. He tends to hold onto his discs for a long time and previously threw neutral flying, seasoned discs like beat up wraiths, teebirds and thunderbirds. Given how much he practices and plays I'd imagine his discs were really worn in and neutral flying.

Circle 1, I'd say they're about even and arguably the best C1 putters ever. I give Paul the edge based on his C2 putting which I think is a touch better because he's a little more aggressive and putts with a tad more speed/velocity, and when you combine those two factors helps him hit a few more C2 putts.

You could argue that when combining all putts (C1 and C2) that both Eagle and Ricky deserve mention as the best putters ever, and while I do think that has merit, we're talking about "clutch" under pressure and I give Paul the nod so far.

In the 98 Worlds the lead card thought Climo had opened the door for them. His drive went 30ft into the trees which was 50 feet from the basket. He sunk that 80 footer from the trees and never looked back.

Climo is #1.

Have you ever seen Climo play?

A lot. He's still #1 GOAT IMO. I give him the edge over Paul because he did it in two decades, so far Paul has done it in 1. I wanna see Paul compete and bang with the kids while he is in his 30's and no longer the big arm. Kenny did that, and if Paul can stay healthy and motivated I think he potentially can do the same, but we shall see.

I'm curious to see how both Paul and Paige do in the 2nd half of their careers. We shall see.

Seen his signature on a few molds...mmmaybe more than a few.

Heard he had a disc shot down by an iron leaf once.

Legend has it he has to be tied down in strong winds because of his ears, but...

Can't say I've ever actually seen the man play in person. :(

Yeah, can't really disagree with this.

Short 200' hole Climo gets a 3 on. It pisses him off and he tells me (because I was the whole gallery) that the next hole is going to pay for it.

He hit the basket with his drive on the next hole.

That's my Climo prediction story. I've heard a few others just like this about him.

I would have agreed with you until I tried it last year. I ended up getting 2 months and watching maybe 12 rounds (not including the final rounds which were free on Youtube).
DGN does an good job of showing every shot for the lead card while still showing action from other cards. There isn't a lot of down time, if any.
Is it as good as PGA coverage? Of course not, but it is pretty good.
Anyway, to your point that live coverage is a bad idea...I disagree. :D

He came to my home course for an NT and shot a 53 first round (under 1000). He was so mad.

He walked back up to TD central and someone said "dang only a 53?" and he said "I'll shoot 42 next round (1080, course record)."

He did.
