Idio Syncrasy Disc Golf Shoe

Didn't Keen come out with a disc golf specific shoe about a decade ago?

and delivery of the production shoes isn't happening until May 2022. So any being tested are ones provided by the maker to people testing....I'm waiting for people who ordered them to actually get them and review them.

I wish Idio the best....but, it's expensive for a shoe when I can buy other brands that work just as well (actually better since I can get them now).

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble, just giving what I feel is an objective take.

I can't help but think it's tough to sell quality shoes, to such a niche segment of the market, at a price point that's competitive, yet profitable.

I also question how much a better a disc golf specific shoe could possibly be, than a hiker or trail running shoe of similar build quality. Plus the more open you are to possible shoe options, the more likely you can go find something you really like on sale.

Maybe the post Covid DG boom and resulting influx of players can help Idio get to where it's sustainable.

I'd have thought that if a DG targeted shoe was gonna work, it would have worked for Keen, or Lat 64.

Keen had the Milo before the DeLa but if I remember correctly the sole of the Milo wasn't one solid piece of rubber and the sole under the ball of the foot would peel away pretty quick.

They weren't on the market very long…quick google search I couldn't find a pic of the originals…saw pics of a Milo2 but don't remember it being released. To be fair they did offer replacements for people who contacted them about defective Milo's.

But anyway, dg shoes have a limited lifetime. I've worn Keen in the past and liked them, but have been wearing Salomon's lately. I pretty much refuse to pay more than $70-80 on a pair of dg shoes and typically try to be closer to $60. Just watch online for something to go clearance and scoop up a pair or two. I actually prefer non goretex because they're way more breathable…I'll keep one pair for bad weather but if it's nice I'd rather my feet actually staying somewhat cool.

The big question for these shoes: everybody has been waiting forever for theirs. If you blow through a pair in 6 months how long are you gonna have to wait to buy another pair? You'd hope some of the Kickstarter money is being used to build a working inventory and just not fulfill the initial order demand…but that's putting a lot of faith into a dg company lololol.

A fair point and at the moment the only person who knows any of that is the owner. That said I don't think they will die in 6 months. I think sexton is still wearing the original pair he received last year, granted this is just one player but with how much golf he plays touring and otherwise it's a good indication of the durability. Hopefully we are getting close to delivery.

Lololol Sexton was probably the worst possible example you could give.

Dude hasn't played much lately. At least know who's repping them and gimme a Hammes name drop.

I'd like to see Calvin Heimburg test out the shoes.....he really puts his shoes through some heavy wear and tear. I've seen a Jomez video (I think it was a practice round) where his shoe was pretty much falling apart as he played.

sexton would be a better rep for the nike monarchs

Just because we don't see him play much on tour doesn't mean he doesn't play much in general.

Agreed, Him, Conrad, and Ricky are some of the other pros I would love to see test these out.

Worth reposting for anyone who didn't catch it before.

Here is a review video of the idio shoe.

I am not convince that the tread is aggressive enough for Michigan golf. I wish they came with the top cap as an option. I am not a toe dragger in any fashion. The extra weight and rigidity is not desirable for me. Interesting shoe, though. I hope they do well.

I have no clue who Michael Babbit is, or if he's affiliated with Idio in any way shape or form, but he seems to like them.

He is a local here in KC. I don't know him personally, heard he is a genuinely good dude. I do know that he posts a lot on the local pages and produces sponsorship type videos, not my cup of tea, but he is ~1000 rated so earned it with play not just social media.

Hammes, his sponsorship was announced earlier this year and was given 5 pairs of syncrasies compared to the 10 terrex he usually picks up during the off season.

And that means nothing. Just cuz he was given 5 pairs doesn't mean that's all he is going to use throughout the season.

Do we know how many pairs of shoes he goes though in a season. He might go light on shoes and maybe only uses a pair. Also, do you know that he is still on his original pair or are you just speculating. And just because someone tours doesn't mean they play a lot of disc golf compared to others who don't.

Until these things are available for purchase at any given moment I'm not interested.

I don't think anybody is doubting some of the features might help them last a bit longer than a traditional trail running or hiking shoe, but I'm not too worried about that if I can snag a pair of clearanced out shoes for $60-70.

The last couple of years I've averaged right around 2,000 running miles a year, which pretty much equates to a new pair of shoes every other month. You better believe that I'm not paying $100-150 full rip every time I'm replacing shoes. They're throwaways at that point…I definitely have a preference of what works for me but stock up when I find what I like for cheap. To me at least dg shoes are the exact same…I'll actually rotate out my legit trail running shoes after enough miles and wear them for dg until they physically fall apart.

I always have a healthy amount of skepticism about a product when titan037 is related to it.
