Is pay per view at US dgc a good idea or not?

After that finish, all I can say is **** all the idiots who think that wasn't worth paying to see

If you didn't like that, then you don't like sports

I'm an idiot for having a different opinion on what is and is not worth $25? And I don't like sports? So are you a mind reader now?

Wow. You're nice - must be fun at parties.

Official statement: "We apologize to the handful of viewers who lost video coverage for a few seconds during the tournament. We will be raising the viewing fee to $30 in 2022. Thank you for your support."

Ahhh yes cause that's how you appropriately handle that situation. Announce a price increase. Brilliant.

In a way that red Raptor cost him Worlds but saved him this week. . o a island hole.
In R2 he totaly blow hole 17 trying to go BH with the Luna. . he even missed that shot twice before going with the Red Raptor in the fastest "in anger throw" i have seen from Paul.

I am wondering if people on site tried watching the livestream during this time which resulted in a sudden drain in available cell data leading to the livestream issues. There were several thousand people in attendance and only a couple hundred can get in position to see 18's basket.

Possibly, and one of the conundrums of Hole 18. It's a great finishing hole, except that it's terrible from a spectator point of view -- only a small percentage of the gallery can possibly see what's happening on it.

Last time I was there for the finals, I found myself wishing they'd put up some big screens to show the action on the green, so those of us who could not find a vantage point would still know what was happening. (That may not be practical, but that rarely keeps me from wanting something).

BRING ON THE JUMBOTRON

I refreshed a gazillion times. Guess next you tell me that was the problem.

Nice that it worked pristine for some but that doesnt mean an easy fix was available to all.

You are not alone Flick--I don't think Victor intended that for you (or me).

Since I live out in the sticks, my internet is provided wirelessly from a radio tower nearby. From the start of the round yesterday, my internet was sketchy. It's usually 30-40 Mbps which works fine for just about everything but when I tuned in to DGN, it was really sketchy. It was bouncing around from 5-10 Mbps. So, I call my service provider and ultimately they said they would need to send a tech out. Of course that's not happening right away.

The service seemed to clean up, but several times throughout the round I got the spinning circle. I wasn't sure if it was my service or DGN, but then Philo comes on and apologizes for the interruptions, tells everyone not to bitch at him/them, so now I know that it's not on my end.

At the end, the signal goes out. I'm exiting DGN app on Fire TV and restarting it. I try to use my phone to watch the playoff and get the same spinning wheel.

What DGN should do is provide next years USDGC coverage for free to everyone that paid this year. They aren't out anything, meaning they don't have to payback anything and they lock in a lot of goodwill.

What's even funnier when you think about it is all the spectators who were hogging the bandwidth had paid to spectate in person.

So if you gonna try to blame spectators who gave you money for ruining the experience of those at home who gave you money for bottlenecking a resource that you don't own and have no control over you're gonna have a bad time.

I'm sorry for all those whose coverage went down. It was certainly not how we wanted to finish the Championship on our end, and I can clearly read the frustration and disappointment on your end out there. We experienced this problem before, and we did a heck of a lot of testing ahead of the Championship to try to prevent it. I know the team on the ground here was busting their butts to try to make a great save. I feel proud about the performance of the crew, Andrew's course set up, the amazing play in the Arena by the women and the open, and our partners at DGN, and yet this finishing bogey is hard to swallow. We already have some ideas to make the 24th USDGC better, and fortunately we have 51 weeks to make it happen. Again, I am sorry that this very important part of the USDGC did not deliver fully. Please keep the comments coming. I read and consider all of them ~ Harold Duvall

I appreciate the hard work you and the crew put in to the tournament. But honestly it's not my favorite course to watch even though the player's really want it and they put on a good show. Too many good shots punished by too restrictive OB or hitting stakes. And I realize the DGN is a work in progress but man that last hole was more like a quadruple bogey at least. There's no way that the tournament can accept that outcome as anything other than a catastrophic failure. You just can't drop the feed at that point and not tick off a lot of people who are supporting you.

on a positive note...it WAS much easier to se the OB this year, , ,not easy on every hole..but easier than previous years

Quadbogey? I think they DNFed.

Sorry for several posts. I watched thd replay just now and am a little juiced in several emotional directions. Such awesome chain of events. So many moments in the last 3-4 holes (+playoff hole) where it could have been decided differently (or with the same winner but in a different fashion). Terrible timing for the stream to melt down. Seems like a capacity issue where only a certain number of people were able to connect.

I may "simmer down" as Philo likes to say* in a day or two so that I can gather my thoughts about the USDGC as a whole and not just this rollercoaster wreck of the end. Its the tournament I care about the most, you know?

One thing that struck me immediately was the "i was 200 feet away from anothet title" bit that Paul said. Way to go into the coulda-woulda zone. Yeah Conrad did throw it in, but thats not when the title wa decided, now was it? Get a more OS disc than a Raptor and dont throw it OB long next time?

*Ps. is 'knurl' a word? Sounded something like that he kep using. "Curl" i am familiar with. But for me discs dont knurl up.

Knurl is slang for curl or bite or hook up.

I'm having trouble finding this as a definition anywhere. There is a NSFW slang definition though: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=knurl

Funny thing, if you search "knurl curl slang" the first item is this Reddit thread about Philo. https://www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/comments/q4a6uo/philo_constantly_using_knurl_to_describe_a_disc/

I was expecting something little more graphic than a page that said "penis" (gasp) :D

But I wasnt at work tho, so its all good

The tournament delivered; Kyle Klein had a great round made the strong push, Wysocki was right there until the end, McBeth stood up when he needed to, you had a playoff...if this was a decade ago and we had watched dots all afternoon, all we would be talking about would be what a great finish it was.

So what the USDGC guys know how to do, they did and did well.

The problem was the technology. The technology let us down. So you had a tournament that totally 100% delivered, and we are here wondering "What was going on with Klein's score on UDisc?" "What happened to the feed?" None of which the USDGC guys probably can answer because that's not what they do. But you can see the problem; we are not talking about the great finish. That's a shame; the event had a great finish.

It just seems like there is going to have to be a really significant investment in improvement to the technology that failed; you can't afford for that stuff not to work. It not working has overshadowed everything else that went right, and a lot went right.

You're right, the tournament was disc golf porn for sure. But the stream providers missed the money shot.
