lostDoughnut Progression

found it (heavy momentum)!!!!!!!!! today was very emotional. i was extremely frustrated as i was shanking all over the place. then i remembered to myself how before when i felt heavy momentum i did the knee extension near the peak of my backswing.
fast forward to today and things started to connected. i think before my rear leg was too limp and my head was going out past my rear leg putting my body in a bad position. i think correcting that really helped add another piece to the puzzle. my head still goes out past my rear leg i think, but this time my rear leg is alot more firm vs limp. half way through the course i felt the feeling and i tried doing it several times and am able to get it 90% of the time. its(heavy momentum) an effortless feeling but now a tiring movement as i can feel all my muscles engaging.

i notice how my rear leg kicks out behind myself yet the disc is not into the power pocket. i think i was starting my downswing too soon. like i was manually moving my upper body vs when i extend my plant leg that picks up and rear leg and then my body naturally uncoils.

the form is not perfect (it actually looks very sloppy, lol, i blame the boots and jeans) and there are several things to fix. but getting that heavy momentum feeling is great and the distance is bonkers

Rear knee should extend to start the backswing. Watch how you rise/extend going forward instead of falling forward.

notes:
1. get right arm out away from chest at peak backswing
2. front knee doesn't bend until turning away from target
3. making sure the front knee doesnt have tooo much flexion in it going into downswing (more details on post 117)
4. keep my off arm on my thigh and use my offarm to push on my thigh during downswing(somehow my body liked this vs trying to time a swim motion)

(skip to second 10, i should have cut more time from the start)

i have never worked on my off arm much. today i tried timing my off arm and made no progress. i remember reading (somewhere on this website) about a player who puts his off arm on his leg. i tried doing that and my body took to that instantly. it felt comfortable and easily repeatable without my form breaking down much (when focusing on something new usually something else in my form breaks down)

todo:
1. keep eyes on disc during backswing
2. more practice
3. more arm/shoulder flexion (not sure i described that correctly) my arm likes to sink into my body vs out and away from my body

pinky isnt on disc (or i dont think). i use 2 or 3 fingers on bottom of disc. at the start of the downswing my wrist does extension and because of the built up tension my pinky lifts (i think?)

image below i believe is where my wrist is possibly doing extension

or it was at end of practice and my grip was simply tired

Marc Jarvis-style off arm!

Looks like there still might be a little too much knee flexion/extend slightly too late in backswing.

When I backswing now, it feels like I've got a rear leg brace/hinge forming with the leg extending against the ground to lead the back swing (even tighter with new plantar flexion).

So the bow loads against that action, and the CoG is driven forward with disc lagging.

yup! marc jarvis. i remember reading about him and thinking in my head how odd it was. what blew my mind was my body got used to it within a few throws. to me i find it alot easier as i simply keep my hand on my thigh and push during the downswing. when i have my off arm in the air my body feels alot more disconnected and i cant time my off arm (thats probably also from a year of neglect and not trying to fix it).

good call on the rear knee flexion! im trying alot of different positions with my rear leg during the backswing to find what works best for me (to help keep my front leg knee extension/flexion at the correct angle). i was focusing on my front leg that i forgot to pay attention to my rear leg. :wall:

i have been trying to hone in on the ' heavy momentum' feeling. past couple days i have been watching a bunch of videos discussing pressure (pressure in feet as swinging from backswing to downswing). i think one part of my form that i havnt keyed in on is getting good or consistent at loading up on the plant leg before the downswing occurs. today i tried to stay slow during my swing and i felt good loaded pressure. i then tried to throw further by crushing the can harder and lost the feeling. im glad that i believe i am onto something. with how exhausting the movement (being loaded on the plant leg) has become its still effortless but exhausting at the same time. i dont feel im over stressing myself to get the distance.

i believe what i discovered today is , and i could totally be butchering the explanation, im not shifting enough weight towards the basket (as shown in the brief clip below).

i feel this is simply more practice to get very consistent at. also after each throw i need to slow down as when i make a few throws that feel solid my body is already to go to max level distance, lol

i have read the elephant walk page tons of times. each time i get a little something out of it. i found this video and it helped me feel pressure/loaded on my front leg

focus of below is getting loaded on the front leg as best as possible
heres where i feel like i could load a little bit more onto the front leg

Need to shift back deeper/east into rear leg/butt and swing inside posture.

gonna throw this here too. trying to find the right balance doing this. sometimes i feel i tried getting deeper into the rear leg but felt i was getting stuck. i have more body awareness now and will def try it again

felt something. past couple practices ago i felt tension when loading up on my front leg. what i was able to add today was being able to feel that tension when starting the backswing. when i sway back my rear knee is bent and front knee is extended my rear leg needs to fall in a certain position to maintain this tension feeling that i feel in my front legs inner thigh muscle area. when i start to extend my rear leg and bend my front knee that tension gets exponentially larger

the location of this new feeling is shown in red below. theres slight tension when my rear foot initially lands on the ground and the tension grows exponentially when i start to turn into the backswing
tensiond.jpg

by the time im nearing peak of my backswing what im figuring out (if its accurate) is all i have to do is press into the ground with my right leg. because of the tension i created the rear leg shoots behind myself
tensiondf.jpg

with the front leg pressed into the ground everything else kinda unwinds
tensiondfff.jpg

i know some of the angles of my knee are still off and other parts of the form is incorrect. but im stoked to be able to feel this tension in the legs. with that i can now work on the angles of the legs/knees and stuff as i believe this was part of that heavy momentum feeling i was going after

Need to shift back deeper/east into rear leg/butt and swing inside posture.

this was very helpful! it just took a good amount of time to feel the tension in the legs and move my legs around that kept the tension. i would put my rear leg in position a, if that didnt work go to b, then onto c. thats what was frustrating trying to put my legs in a position to feel this tension (i didnt know thats what i was trying to find as i hadnt had that feeling before)

Just curious - Is the position of the disc (in your stand-still video), on your torso in the power pocket relative to your dimensions/mobility? It looks to be quite a bit lower than the average thrower.
im not sure i follow? it very well could be. i havnt worked on my upper body in awhile. i did my off arm like one day but i have been really grinding on the leg work
