(Got this idea from Three-Putt) So here is the gig:

List here what discs you carry normally and how you use them and see if others have suggestions or comments to help you with your weapons of choice. Obviously knowing your max distance will help with how your speed of throwing some. This is for fun, because you still have to like what you throw, but I am sure it will be very interesting to see what others think.

Starting it off:

Max distance is around 320' at 100% throw but I am at 250' main distance at my 75% throw for both RHBH and FH, and only 100' thumber/hammer up and over obstacles (frustrating).

Discwing Quarter K II (RHBH long driver)
Innova Champion Sidewinder (almost any shot needed that requires length BH & FH)
Discraft Supercolor Spectra (gradual guarenteed turn BH and FH)
Innova Pro Wraith/Discwing Quarter K (hard turn disc BH & FH)
(can't decide here, but been leaning on the Wraith due availability and I throw the Wraith FH better)
Innova Champion Tee-bird (long straight BH)
Discraft X-Elite Stratus/Innova Classic Roc (BH mid/long straight and all approaches, Stratus disc I can make turn any direction I intend BH, I also notice it can be a great roller, if I can just get the timing down a little better.)
(keep switching these around too, but leaning toward Stratus after learning the breaking in factor of the Roc)
Gateway (SS & SSS) Magic Putters (love them)
Aerobie Epic (carry this now and then for the thumber, but if I don't have one, I have been using the Wraith, maybe there is a better choice for my short distance.)

Currently testing the Discraft Slipstream GT and Latitude 64 Vision for long driver. (really stating to like the Slipstream)

I am sure there is more info that can be used, but hey any advice is something learned no matter if it is about 1 disc or the whole bag. Can't weight to see what you think AND especially what you carry!

Let's debate about this stuff and have some fun with it.

You say the Wraith and Quarter K give you a "hard turn" RHBH, but you also say you can "turn" the stratus either direction. So I'm wondering how you define the term "turn." To me, "turn" for a RHBH throw is a disc that flips and goes right. If the disc turns left for a RHBH it is called "fade." Based on your description I'd assume that your Wraith and Quarter K are fading hard left, but it would help if you could clarify that. A lot of what I'd suggest would be based on that.

Ok here goes my distances seem pretty close to Donovan's 320' is about my max 300' is more what I cahit consistently with 100% power and 250' is right about where I switch from full power midrange to soft driver. And my thumber distance is about 160'-180' I need 200' to birdie #15 at Grand Woods :(

So main Drivers:
170 Champ Monarch good for straight distance and subtle hyzer flips.
165 Exlite X Wildcat Hyzer flips uphill sots and downwind drives.
171 Elite Z Surge Upwind drives and other shots that need to go left.
170 Champ Valk This one seems to be good for me when I have to got straight out 270'-280' then
stop and turn left. lol seems like an awfully specific shot but I need it on a few holes out here.
173 Elite Z Cyclone Actually preferElite X on this one but I lost it. Good for drives that start rightand
hold the line the whole way.
175 Elite Z Wasp Just learning this disc but basically use it when I wanna chuck a mid-range hard and
don't want it to flip on me.
174 Pro D Buzzz Straight shots that finish left.
178 Elite X Stratus Much like Donovan this disc goes where I tell it to. ( as long as I throw it right,
there are no trees in the way, and no one breaths during my run up)
174 Pro D soft Magnet Umm Putting. :D

So should this thread be under Equipment since we are talking about the equipment we carry? Or should it be under strategy because we are discussing the strategy of what we are carrying? "Shut up your being too Anal!!" " Oh ok sorry... Bye now" :D

Well, I might as well take a crack at this. My consistent distance is about 250' with max around 300' (without elevation/trees). I mostly use forehand with drivers and mids.

Champ Wraith 175: Bread & Butter shot, used for most tee shots, some upshots.
Champ Orc 171: Testing for a little extra distance. Sometimes I can get it to work, sometimes not. It'll probably be better once I've seasoned it a bit.
Champ Teebird 171: Shorter shots, long upshots, or ones that require less fade than the wraith. Also some anhyzer (FH) shots and occasionally a BH shot.
ESP Force 171: A big meathook. If I need something to hook right consistently and heavily, this is what I go to. Basically, I don't have enough power for it.
Star Xcaliber 171: Unless I'm really fresh (first few holes), I don't have the power for this one either. Considering taking this one out of my bag.
Champ Valk 167: BH shots mostly. Lately I've been experimenting with FH turnover shots with it with mixed results.
Elite Z Talon 167: This is my trick shot driver. My hammers are terrible, but I can manage to simulate one with this disc. Released high and severely anny, it'll almost always turn & come back generally landing straight ahead.
Elite Z Buzzz 174: Go-to mid-range.
Ace Race 2008 Disc 175: This is the midrange that'll hold any line, so I use it mostly for the anhyzer BH/FH shots
4 types of Wizards: Soft - approaches and main putter; Supersoft - For the colder months it holds the chains better than the soft; SSS - downhill putts or putts on the side of a hill. It doesn't go anywhere.; Organic - Recently purchased. Seems to be in between a soft and supersoft and I've really been liking it for putts.

ill give it a shot -LHFH off the tee - i have sort of given up on the ultra long distance BH drives for the moment - can get 300 feet on a good BH drive - but my form etc still isnt there so there is a lot of inconsistency - but i still have a whole bunch of discs i'll only use for BH drives that dont get much play.

171 Star Xcal - max distance FH drives with room for highspeed turn
171 Z Flick - straight FH drives - the zero glide makes for less chance of veering off course - it bombs out staight and fast then falls quite quickly - very predictable
171 Star Destroyer - FH drives with wind at back or FH flick drives as disc will turn over when throwing full sidearm power - hard to throw full power sidearm with hyzer
172 DX Destroyer - use it for nothing - was an experiment to see how a DX destroyer will fly compared to the Star - it turns over all the time
171 Pro Firebird - shorter straight Forehand flick drives released with hyzer - can get some surprising distance - but turns over if get too much behind it

170-172 ish Champ Orc / Beast / FLX Surge / ESP Rogue - all BH drives - whatever i feel like
the beast turns over easily so usually won't use that
Sometimes i'll use the Orc or any of these for a forehand flick - but need ALOT of room to account for a huge S curve

171 Star Roadrunner - low longer tunnel shots - not great at throwing it

171 Champ monarch - left hand turning shots / anhyzers

175 X/Z/FLX Buzzz just about everything midrange - shorter drives -FLX good in the woods - trying to beat in the X also

175 Wasp - still getting the hang - the Buzzz's are all i need now

black X stratus - rollers / slower straight shots / left hand turns

2 Organic Wizards - putting / approach - these are new so getting the hang especially with approaches - they dont turn very much despite their "overstableness" they tend to drop down since they dont glide very much

Super Puppy - 100' Putts / some approaches - straight flying disc

You say the Wraith and Quarter K give you a "hard turn" RHBH, but you also say you can "turn" the stratus either direction. So I'm wondering how you define the term "turn." Sorry I did me those fade hard for me.

Good idea Donovan
I carry

DGA Rouge for bombing open holes. I love this disc, anyone else try this one yet? Its demmanding in that the only way to throw it is, big.
A wraith which is being phased out by the ROuge
150g champ valk. for easy fairway drives, when no wind present.
167 Champ Beast for holding a tight line and spkie hyzer, plus I play with a light attached to it at night.
162g Champ Orc for controled hyzer, my go to disc.
172 impact for approach
put'r X for hitting birds
Road runner for running out annies as needed, this shot, I've been working on all summer and have finally gotten to a point where I can control it, also for rollers.
I also carry a floater (hydra)

I would like a good hammer disc, any opinions, my hammer goes out about 50feet snaps over and then flies to about 200 feet to the target and comes down from from left to right about ten feet.

Any other shots/disc you guys think I would need to work on and/or try?

Here's what I'm using right now. I throw LHBH for every shot unless obstacles demand otherwise, and normally place drivers out 250ish, 300 if accuracy can suffer.

172 Star Wraith - hyzers or heavy right fades only.

171 DX Teebird - max distance drives.

168 DX TL - straightaway and placement drives. My go-to disc off the tee.

169 Pro Leopard - turnover disc. It's getting way too squirrely, and is being phased out by a 170 Champ Leopard (but only the pro will go ridiculously left, so I still carry it)

172 Star Shark - all midrange shots that I don't want to use a putter for. My workhorse. Can also be thrown off the tee for shorter holes.

A pair of 175 Soft Magnets, one beat in understable, one fresh. Layups, especially when the disc needs to stay where it lands. Also used out to about 150' on woodsy holes, because they tend to drop on tree impact rather than ricocheting deeper into the forest.

And lastly, a 172 Lightning #2 Driver. Bought for floating capabilities, I soon decided that it completely sucks for drives... but works great for "must make" putts. Very grippy but stiff plastic.

Max Fade Drives - Champion XCaliber
Medium Fade Drives - Champion Destroyer - Have thrown it about 360'
Minimal fade drives - Champion Wraith - Have thrown it about 375'
Straight Drives - Champion Beast - Have thrown it abut 340'
Minimal turnover drives - Champion Monarch - Have s-turned it about 400'
Max turnover drives - Champion Sidewinder - Have rolled it about 450'
I had a KC Pro Teebird that I used for 250' - 300' fairway drives but I lost it.
All shots under 250' - DX First Run Skeeter - will turn over if I try throw it 280'
Putter - DX XD

I had a Quest Tbone that was awesome. It was replaced by the beast but as soon as I get another one it will go back in the bag and the beast will come out. It is a super gliding straight distance driver.

I throw RHBH and RHFH depending on what the hole requires.

167 Star Teerex very beat in for my nice s curve drives. My max distance is about 325'. This is my longest disc.
150 DX Teebird for downwind and low long tunnel shots
168 Champ Leopard for shorter control drives that I need to finish straight.
165 Champ Roadrunner for turn over drives.
180 DX shark fairly beat in for a mid turn over disc.
169 KC Pro Roc for any line- this is one of my most used discs.
169 Champ spider
177 & 169 New 2008 Discraft ACE Race disc: I just got this disc and am impressed so far. It is a little overstable, but once its seasoned a little is gonna be one of those discs that rival a Roc for me. It is a little faster and longer than the roc for me, but it is still tough to turn it over and keep it on that line.
175 SS Magic for the putter.

OK, for what it is worth...

I think you need to dump your drivers. ALL of them. Maybe not the Sidewinder, but definitely get rid of the QK, the QK II and the Wraith. The Spectra probably needs to go as well.

Here is my experience...I was adding the newest longest driver to my bag like everybody, then I got hurt. My drives were down to about 250', and I knew I didn't have the power to make my long-range drivers work. So I got rid of them, because I could still throw the Cyclone 250'. As I healed I started working drivers back in and really comparing how they flew for me. I found that at my power level I can drive a Valk almost as far as I can any of the longer drivers with more control. So if I stay away from the Inferno, which was my go-to max D disc, I lose 15 ft of distance and gain the control I need to stay in the fairway. I'll take the open shot and take my chances making up the 15' with my Roc on the second throw as opposed to throwing the Inferno and praying that it lands someplace clear.

Now to be honest, my longest drive with an Inferno was more like 50 ft. past where I throw my Valk. But that was kinda a random once in every hundred tosses. The odds are against me there. By closer observation the difference was much less, and my Inferno throws were all over the place. I just don't have the gun to make that disc do what it is supposed to do. It is supposed to be a hyzer flip disc, but half of the time it hyzerd out on me when I threw it flat.

So for you throwing 320', I'd really disc down. It sounds like the Sidewinder does OK for you, and maybe the Spectra as well. I'd look into an actual overstable disc like and Innova Banshee to make those left turn throws. The Banshee is also great for forehands, thumbers, grenades, and shots like that, so maybe you can unload that Epic.

So that's my recommendation...dump the Wraith and QK, add a Banshee. Maybe a Firebird or a Predator...they are faster than a Banshee but maybe they would work better for you.

TeeBirds are great, leave those alone. The Magic is a good putter, leave that alone. Your mid-range selection is not my cup of tea, but if it works for you go for it. I think you can really improve your game with a more realistic approach to your drivers.

three putt just wanted to let u know that the firebird will do the same thing if not worse than what his wraith I doing now anyway here are my two cent on this question-
I am 6 feet 6 inches tall and throw rhbh my farthest measured throw is 538 ft 6 1/3 inches with and average or 460 to 470

175 star gator- this disc is my putter I can make 8 out of en puttss within 55 ft wit it
177 star shark- best midrange disc available
175 star max- thumber disc about 200 ft(not good at them)
173 discraft flick- this is my wndy day in ur face disc I can throw thi disc 450 feet easy over and over again with a 30mph headwind
175 star teerex(2x)- easily could be best drivver on the market this is my s shot disc
175 star destroyer(2x)- most understable disc I have great for
flip shots to get max d on calm days
175 star excaliber- I have really not thrown this yet let u now when I do
175 star teebird- straightest disc for me no fade no turn just straight
175 star wraith- quickly becoming my favorite disc aced a 382 foot hole to the right behind trees and nailed the chains and stuck
175 champion firebird- my favorite disc its the first seriouse disc I bought and easily flies 500 ft 7 out of 10 times also with deadly acuracy I cann place any of my disc anywhere I want I shoot an averaage of 13 under on a course that averages 354 ft a hole

well those are them and what's everyones honest max distance just curious cause I have only been playing for a little under a year and have been contemplating getting really serious about it

These kind of topics are always fun. I've got a few minutes to kill, so why not?

First, a little about me and my game. I've been playing for 4.5 years, but have only been a serious competitive player for about 3 yrs. I currently play in the open division, with a player rating of 957. My average distance drive is about 375' with my longest golf shots being in the 400'-420' range. My set-up seems to change slightly every few months, but here's what I'm throwing right now...

(2) 175 Star Orc - Both are on the slightly-understable side...one will hold a nice straight line with slight fade at the end, the other will flip over if thrown flat. Newer one is my main no-wind driver, the other is used more to sneak around trees and through tight fairways

175 Champ Glow Orc - straight with strong fade at the end. Gives me a little more accuracy on hyzer shots. Added stability makes it great for anhyzer flex shots.

174 Star Teerex (original mold) - This is only in the bag for windy days or tournaments. Basically hits the same lines as my newest Orc, but used for headwind drives.

175 Sirius Orion LS - I usually carry 2-3 of these in different stages of wear, but there was too much overlap between the newest Orion and my oldest Orc, so I only keep the least stable Orion in the bag now. Total workhorse of a disc...used for myriad of anhyzers, BIG hyzer-flips, but mainly backhand rollers.

175 CE Firebird - Main overstable driver. Shorter headwind drives, forehand drives / rollers, hyzers. Prett well used, so it'll fly straight for good distance before the strong fade kicks in.

175 EXP 1.7 (CE blend) - Used as a compliment to my Firebird. Grippier plastic, smaller rim make for a much more comfortable feel in the hand. Less stable than the Firebird, but still overstable enough to make it very reliable. This *could* leave the set-up without much effect, but I feel very comfortable throwing this one.

175 Champ Teebird - Used mainly for shots between 300-330', but only when I feel I couldnt get a midrange there (because of wind, low ceiling, angle, etc).

(3-4) 176 Ching Rocs (aka "Flat top") - I always have at least 3, sometime 4 of these (depending on the course). Basically, I have the entire spectrum of stabilities represented in these Rocs. Most stable is good for hyzers and anhyzer-flex shots, but the rest are mainly straight for 80% of the flight with varying degrees of fade at the end. My least stable Roc will fade completely straight or with a slight turnover.

179 Champ Cobra (flat-top mold) - Feels just like a flat-top Roc in the hand, but has a very slow/gradual turn at higher speeds, decent fade at low speeds. Mainly used for lofty approaches / mid-shots where I need a late turn.

176 Quantum Sentinel - Overstable midrange...great for headwinds, hyzer mid shots, and skip shots.

175 Champ Whippet - most overstable disc in the bag...flies like a lawndart! Really only used for short trick shots (forehand, spike anyhzer flex, short spike hyzers)...this one comes out a lot in heavily wooded courses to get around trees/bushes.

175 12x KC Aviar - stable/overstable approach disc. Stable enough to handle a good 250-300' drive too.

175 11x KC Aviar - well used with a naturally sunken flight plate. My go-to putter, as well as my understable approach disc.

My core discs are the Orcs, Orion LS, Firebird, Rocs, and Aviars...the rest have their places and get used frequently, but I honestly could play alright without them. Most of the others are situational discs that I'll use in tournament play.

175 champion firebird- my favorite disc its the first seriouse disc I bought and easily flies 500 ft 7 out of 10 times also with deadly acuracy I cann place any of my disc anywhere I want I shoot an averaage of 13 under on a course that averages 354 ft a hole

..and you can piss through the eye of a needle standing on your head from the top of 15 story building.

If everything you said is true, you have the skills of a top pro.

I followed the advice of this article when choosing the discs to go in my bag:

https://www.dgcoursereview.com/dgr/resources/articles/discoverlap.shtml

I throw 350'-380' with my fariway drivers on golf lines and can hit 420' on distance lines. Here's what I'm using now:

1. Stable control drivers:
3 DX Gazelles - line shaping from over to understable (300'-360')
2 DX Teebirds - Straight, straight distance and straight with a hyzer finish (330'-380')

2. Distance driver (350'-380'):
1 X Avenger - low ceiling distance, distance with a fade
1 beat E Spirit - more turn and more fade than the Avenger

3. Understable driver:
1 of my DX Gazelles

4. Moderately overstable driver (350'-380'):
1 Z Avenger - long hyzers and distance into the wind
1 S Spirit - a bit shorter and more overstable than the Avenger.

5. Very overstable driver (200'-350')
1 E Spirit

Mids (200'-300'):
2 DX Rocs
1 KC Pro Roc

Putters (0-250'):
5 S Wizards of different weights and beatness

I am about average. I can throw a distanc driver out to about 350-360. However, in TN most of our courses tend to be about 60%-75% wooded. More often than not, I tee off with a fairway driver and I can usually get those out to about 310-315. But here's what I roll with...

Distance Drivers:
1. ESP Surge 170 - Long open holes
2. Avenger SS 169 - for a long hole that plays slightly downhill (for some reason I throw this disc laser straight and it never gets more than 8 feet off the ground...and I don't know why)
3. SE Valk 173 - This disc is flippy, but if I release it at a strong hyzer angle, it flips flat and flies a long way on a line.

Fairway Drivers:
1. I carry 2 JLS's. One that is beat, and one that is not.
2. Teebirds: 2 SE (variously beaten), 10x KC Pro - trouble shots
3. Polaris LS - laser straight, low ceiling shots

Mids:
1. Star Kite - anything from 250 to 175 feet away. This disc is dependable for me. I carry a 175 for a little more stability and consistency.
2. Star Cro - it just seems to work for me on a slight hyzer line
3. Star Skeeter - Anhyzer approaches
4. Star Gator - it stays in the bag in case of wind, I use it occasionally for a hard hyzer angle approach

Putters:
1. Wizard (SSS) 175 - any open putt within 35 feet
2. Warlock (SSS) 172 - Any putt that needs a slight anhyzer or any putt outside of 35 feet (this one stays in the air longer for me than the Wizard)
