Like the title says. I have heard the two are very similar, and I love my Ascent. Wondering if it's worth adding the Eagle or if it would be completely redundant. So the question is which do you prefer, and then also comments on the differences would be nice.

I've only thrown an Ascent a hand full of times. Seemed a lot harder to throw for the results, plus the grip was just total ****. They say that plastic is grippy. I had more slips with it than any other plastic, champion grips better than that. Plus, if it is as durable as they say, it'll take as long or longer than champion to beat in. Plus I don't see it beating in evenly and flying well. It just seemed quite stable, which is ok if that's what it's meant for. But, just seemed like it was on the very stable side of Eagles Xs. And, as I said, it's power to result ratio seemed bad. Can't say I liked it at all honestly.

I find if I place my thumb on the Vibram stamp, I get much better grip. Also, I think they need to be washed with soapy water to remove some of the natural oils from the surface of the rubber. I have noticed that it seems a lot more stable than my TL or Leopard, but didn't know how it would compare with the Eagle.

Did you throw a medium or firm?

The one I threw was someone else's. But, I'd say you could be right about it needing to be washed. But, all the putters I've felt seemed like they were just as slippery. They were all some what new, because I wouldn't invest in them. But, yeah they're definitely more stable than a TL and especially a Leo. I'm going to say it's more on the side of a very stable Eagle X in my opinion. At least the one I was throwing was. Maybe it was the grip, but to get it as far as I'd normally throw an Eagle or Gazelle, it just felt as I had to throw it harder to get the same distance. Which really made me not like it more.

I suppose I should add that into the discussion line. My experience is strictly with the medium X-Link. So if anyone wants to add thoughts on Firm vs Medium, those are welcome as well.

i have a proto ascent and dont know if it is firm or medium. it is not slick at all and has awesome grip. ill take any ascents you guys are not happy with

I absolutely love mine. The only thing it's not good for to me is tailwinds. I still don't have enough velocity to throw it with a strong tailwind, but it's consistently my longest and most accurate fairway driver with 10 mph wind or less.

waiting for the eagle to surge up to an insurmountable lead.

Very poorly.
It is like an eagle x with less glide, less distance and less versatility.

Not awful discs...just not as good as an eagle.

I feel like mine threw a lot closer to a Teebird than an eagle x. I really like it though, so much that I no longer have any teebirds in my bag, just a pair of ascents.

I replaced my Avenger with my Ascent. I haven't thrown an Eagle for over a decade and I suspect they have changed quite a bit. I concur with the tailwind comment. I too do not have enough armspeed to keep the Ascent straight with a tailwind. For the tailwind striaght shots, I resort to my Trak (which should be in stores in early June).

My birthday is June 7... Just sayin'

Do others agree with this? And how about the difference between throwing the firm and the medium? Do they beat in different like DX vs champ, or do they pretty much beat in the same?

The general consensus in one of the vibram threads is that its a mix between the eagle and teebird (some people called it Teagle). Also the firm may start out a little more stable but after a few tree hits it actually beats in more understable. I just got my firm and haven't had a chance to compare it to the medium.

I only threw a buddies medium a few times, but I will say it was far more like a teebird than an eagle.

that being said, it was no where near as good as a teebird imo.

Well...I think it's right between the two (Teebird/Eagle) but it's hair splitting either way. The op was asking for comparison to the eagle. I threw a Firm Ascent and it had less hss than a teebird and also more fade...which puts it in eagle-ville. But everyone's different

Here's an early thread on them that has alot of good info

And Joe's Chart for them

This is going about the way I expected. My one knock on the Ascent is its lack of glide. But then, if it had more glide, it would likely be more understable. Those two are not mutually tied together by law, but they tend to go together. All in all I love the disk, but am looking forward to checking out the Ibex, hoping it will have a bit more glide. The material is far superior to anything else on the market IMHO, so it's just a matter of time for Vibram to fill in the holes sufficiently to be able to throw a Vibram only bag (at least, I will keep telling myself that).

Personally I have not liked any of the Vibram discs. Well maybe not true, I like the minis.

I think you should have added a champ eagle option though.
