Who said a thrown object increases in speed after release?

If you're implying that I did, that's not what I said. I said it accelerates. Acceleration is ∆v/t, where v is velocity and t is time. Acceleration can be negative.

If only there were some single word that described the idea of negative acceleration, yet is so similar to that word that it would quickly spring to mind in discussion of matters of velocity and time. Maybe it would begin with "de-" instead of "a-" in order to show that it is the opposite of "acceleration."

Well, a disc does go faster after it leaves the hand:
It goes faster toward the ground. I.e. accelerates due to gravity
