MrFrosty is your 2020 ROTY, becoming the 3rd repeat winner of the distinction. Sir Valkyrie Kid comes in with yet another silver medal, and newcomer Shadrach3 takes the bronze.

The cubic zirconium title, given to reviewers with 1,000 thumbs but not enough unique voters, is representative of a lot of our sites current top reviewers, as they have the quantity to reach diamond, but haven't had the length of time needed to gain unique voters. This is truly the year where we start to see this distinction start to engulf our top 25 lists, as this year has 9 CZ reviewers and 8 Diamond reviewers. This is the year where we see the first appearance of CZ members Shadrach3, knobby325, Cerealman, Surge5, DFrah, and EspressoPatronum, with kp_1024 likely just being a month or two from joining this list as well.

Being 2020, it's fair to wonder if Covid-19 had an impact on this and our site in general, as it is well known our game received a huge boost in relevance given it's unique stature as a game you play outside, can play while social distancing, and is largely played in free and open parks. That being said, looking at this list, this was the first year publishing reviews for Shadrach, DFrah, Surge5, and kp_1024, and for me personally was the first year I got into reviewing excluding a few quick reviews in 2010 and 2011, largely because it was a way to get out of the house and do something at a time when it was harder to.

I compiled breakdowns of the top 590 reviewers on DGCR by review count to make these lists, and here are the year by year breakdowns of total reviews by those top 590 reviewers each year, understanding this only covers those with at least 20 reviews and there are many, many more reviewers with less that have contributed to this site:

But I think that 300 review bump among the historical top reviewers on our site from 2019 to 2020 is at least notable.

I made the list! Thought I could make top 10. 2020 was when I really dug in to reviewing. 2021 added taking lots of pictures and adding as much info as I could. Still working my way through the Iowa courses. Topped DerekTonn in my state.... that's a feat... still only gets me top 3....

COVID played a big part for me. In the 2010s I had played a round here and there when friends asked me if I wanted to accompany them. I purchased an Aviar around 2015 but other than that my "bag" consisted of 3-4 distance drivers I found on courses, and kept in a little drawstring bag. Around this time of year in 2020 I was kind of like "man, I can't just stay inside in isolation all summer" so I decided to try disc golfing more.

The rest is history...

I cant say it cut down on reviews, because I'm simply not as prolific a reviewer as I once was, but...

Covid definitely cut down on the #of new courses I made it to in 2020. Really didn't feel comfortable traveling until 2021.
