BS review of Black Falls DGCR

You guys are just baiting me now, trying to make me look bad. All my replies have been justified. I'm just trying to defend myself.

I don't mean to take that away from you in any way, your hard work and dedication to your course are admirable. I sincerely appreciate owners that pour effort like that into a course.

I would strongly recommend just pushing away from the keyboard for a few days...or at least pushing away from this thread. Pretty sure no more useful content is going to be generated here that hasn't been said already. Just a friendly recommendation. That's all.

I don't understand how you think he is the level headed one in this thread? This is why I try not to converse on these message boards. People just don't get it. Maybe I can buy you a beer sometime?

You are an idiot that I have no time or more words for just like some of the douches that play at my course. Is there an iggy bin on this site?

Name calling was not necessary or justified. From one of the douches that played your course!

There is an ignore feature on DGCR and I have now decided to use it on you!

I might point out that we're 80+ replies into this thread, and I still don't know where this course is.

Guess I'm not playing it either, but hey, at least I won't be reviewing it.

The entitled, d-bag, disc golfer is a real thing. The most likely cause being all the free, government maintained park courses with no face to put behind all the hard work and maintenance involved…let alone the young ruffian archetype that disc golf attracts.
But imagine putting all the effort into building your own course, with your own money and sweat and time, only to have these slimy people skipping out on greens fees, littering, vandalizing signage, baskets, benches etc, and then trashing the course online for perceived shortcomings.

It must be infuriating; I fly into a mini rage over the litter and ****ing graffiti on my home (public park) course. I can't imagine seeing that on a course I built with my own two hands on my private property.

But.

It's one review. It matters very little. When I plan trips to new courses, I look for trusted reviewers, and only look at newer/lower rated reviews in comparison, and even then, with the grain of salt mentioned earlier. A well-established, highly respected course has one review that says it's been "let go"? I might possibly lose a disc in some overgrown patch? Who cares, I'm playing it anyway. My home course mows all the fairways once a week. But on day 6, someone who's never played it might say "man these fairways are overgrown, that's a negative" because the grass grows so fast.

So, while I understand the plight of the private course designer/owner, I do agree that taking the public feedback even more public is a bad look. You guys deserve all the credit and respect for doing what you do, but one bad review doesn't warrant screeching about all your friends who are the best players in the world. The vast majority of disc golfers are not, nor will ever be, nor aspire to be the best in the world. They are chuckers or 900ish rated players, who have opinions, whether right or wrong, that they feel is their right to share with the world. (This is America in the internet age, after all, and on one is above criticism. If I built a **** course, am I justified in flying off the handle when called out for it because hard work = above reproach?)

So, do what you think is right. Make your course invite-only, close it to the public, pull it from DGCR or Disc Golf Scene. Or maybe just ignore that bad review, and keep doing it because you love the game, or at one point did, and focus on all the great people that have come through and will come through, and forget about and ignore the *******s.

Browse courses is a difficult feature to master.

Really Discette??? The only reason I even started this thread is because that the reviewer said the course was in bad shape in the conditions box. Sorry if I have offended anyone. It's too bad that some of you won't come play a really nice course because of this thread.

Folks, don't overlook that the course owner's complaint wasn't just over a negative review---it was over a review that stated the course was overgrown and poorly maintained when, according to the owner, it's in great shape.

Of course, I have no idea which is true. But a misstatement of facts is even more frustrating than an outlier negative opinion.

Thank you David! So glad there is a voice or reason. I apparently have lost some credibility here with my name calling even though it is totally justified in this situation. I call it like I see it. I have no problem escorting someone off my property if they are acting like a douche. It happens more and more frequently as the course gets more play.

I am a long time reader of the forums on this site. It's an excellent site that is a great resource for the sport.

However I'm not in the least surprised rhat this thread has turned into a pissing match full of self indulgent remarks. I am to blame just as much as anyone else and do apologize for this.

Peace
Johnny B

FYI - with this review, Black Falls now falls out of the top 25 and Smuggler's Notch Brewster Ridge takes over the honors for highest rated course in Vermont. I only played Black Falls because it WAS on the top 25 list and it WAS the top rated course in Vermont.

I imagine SN Brewster Ridge and Black Falls will be switching places as the top course in Vermont and on the Top 25 list as each course is reviewed.

The change of heart displayed by Discette, from her defending your outrage in the beginning to her feeling annoyed by your attitude, is a perfect example of why creating threads like this and taking the bait these nobody reviewers dangle at you is useless and impotent. Johnny B did it here and Mando has done it before. With having absolutely no dog in this fight, I can say all this bickering and baiting/responding does is make your course look less attractive to play with the possibility of a run in with a less than open minded owner (not saying this is definitive just a possible outcome given what we read).

I would hope people would take my atttitude if presented with the same situation. Why sit back while people throw stones at you? I can take constructive criticism as I have done with many of the reviews but blatant lies I can't live with.

I would much rather be called every name in the book, but ignorant is just insanely insulting. I most definitely can be a dick when provoked as all who know me well.

Honestly??? Because, when you post your course here for reviews/ratings, you should have done so with the understanding that reviews are completely subjective. The process gives the reviewer the right to state HIS opinion, whether the course owner/designer agrees or not. More importantly, once posted here, the course owner/designer essentially agrees to take the good with the bad. Oddly, we see very few threads complaining about over inflated ratings.

There are many, many private courses that simple choose not to list here, probably because of this issue, at times. It is sad that a few bad apples create this situation, but to get angry at the possibility, seems to be wasting a lot of your energy. I would rather you keep doing a great job up there, so the course is still beautiful if I get the chance to bang some of your chains.
