Final Round Radio - American Disc Golf Tour

I'm guessing money talks, so if there is enough money to interest the top pros, they will be there.

The way he explained this, it sounds like ESPN just didn't want to stream a one-off event. They wanted it to be part of a larger tour or league. Ideally, that would mean featuring the event as part of the PDGA's National Tour. But since Salient had no interest in working with the PDGA, they instead chose to hack together their own tour with its own rulebook and standards as a way to satiate ESPN.

I realize that. He also said that ESPN wanted a separate organization from Salient.

I can buy that, but am less convinced that they required a different set of rules, and particularly the differences presented; or a different standard for discs, particularly the differences offered.

I originally thought that they went with different rules because the PDGA prohibited them from using its rules, but since they say they never approached the PDGA, this seems doubtful. Perhaps they anticipated the PDGA prohibiting their use. But some of the rules are copied word-for-word, so if there was or will be a rights dispute, they're still on shaky ground.

Just conjecture on my part, of course.

Guys,

Salient and ADGT are already super ****ed up without everyone implying and insinuating things that aren't true.

What both Kilgus and Steve have said is that they approached ESPN, not the other way around. In fact, their stance is "anyone could have done this...so why didn"t they?" which would make sense if PDGA hadn't given them a solid kiss off response of: "we already have the same level of coverage for free"

PDGA is basically saying they ride a Victory while ADGT is riding a Harley. PDGA's motorcycle is pretty much the same, and in some ways superior, while ADGT is paying more for a brand name.

I also agree with DiscFifty. If the money is there, so to will be the pros.

Something like Nike becoming the major sponsor, and the name getting changed to the Nike American Disc Series -- NADS. Then we can all cheer, GO NADS! :p

Remember the skin cream that was advertised on tv several years ago called Nads?

If you called in the next 15 minutes they would "double-size your nads for free.".

Most tournaments post specifics on payout.

They also include a list of people who have registered.

So far ADGT has done neither.

Would you commit travel time and expenses, along with the tourney fee, up front without knowing who else is attending or how much it will pay?

My GUESS is so far no one of merit has signed on yet. They keep posting the "invited" list, and throw around numbers of people who have signed up, but no definite sign ups yet.

This is very early to expect a list of registrants. They've said they'll post it after the initial 45-day period is up.

(Until our tournament went to DGU online registration, I didn't post a list until it got to 20 or so, either).

Again, more complaints that aren't really important. There is so much other BS these guys have pulled and are pulling that we can complain about besides a registration list.

Over the past 2 weeks the ADGT has noticed a large amount of "misinformation" by entities with no first hand knowledge of the inaugural American Open 2016 on ESPN3.

Why is disc golf going to be on ESPN3 and not ESPN or ESPN2?

Answer: ESPN3 is the benchmark for emerging sports on ESPN Networks. In order for a sport to move onto ESPN & ESPN2 support must be shown and interest generated if that sport is to garner a spot on other channels. **the most recent example of this is the Crossfit games that began on ESPN3 in 2010 and moved up to ESPN and ESPN2**

Is this event really going to happen? Will the production value be any good and how is this different from YouTube live broadcast?

Answer: 100% it will happen. This event will feature a live 2 hour block on May 15, 2016 at Cobblestone Park Golf Club in Blythewood, SC. Contracts were executed by all parties previous to the first announcement. Production teams have to be approved by ESPN including satellite team and day of production staff. All content/ graphics must match ESPN standards and we have hired a great team to complete the production. This is much different from a live YouTube stream in that you will have no interruption of service, professional camera crews and hardwired feeds back to the production truck making your viewing experience second to none.
In closing we encourage the disc golf community to support the event as much as possible. By supporting this event you help secure a future for players and the sport to move into the mainstream.

What kind of kick back are the players going to get? Are the purses larger since there is advertising and monies being made that way like in ball golf? And can we expect the big names like Wysocki, McBeth, Koling, Schustrick, Lizotte, etc to play in these events?

The payouts can not be structured until closer to the event. We are nearly 6 months away from the event so sponsorship money will increase as well as player support. The ADGT is structured to give back to players in every single way including money from memberships, fundraiser discs, and sponsorship money.

The ADGT can't speak to all players but we will have some top notch players in the field. We hope all top players would want to support the event in order to further our chances of reaching ESPN and ESPN 2. Either way we will have a fantastic show of talent and skill during the event.

There is a great amount of pressure on the folks at the ADGT to organize and perform to the expected standards of the Disc golf community. Many people involved are donating their time to plan and prepare. We all have to understand that the sport is growing rapidly and amazing opportunities are being presented to everyone involved. Supporting this event will only help advance this sport to the next level and give the players and hosts the opportunity to make the money they deserve for their efforts at future events.

Has ESPN given any indication of what kind of vierwership numbers you would have to have in order for it to be considered for broadcast on one of the cable versions?

Brad there is not one true number that has to be met but a general range has been mentioned. In our research of other live YouTube streaming of DG events the number of live viewers must be considerably higher and we hope having a larger base to begin with like ESPN3 will make this a possibility.

Every single person who made a positive comment there is on the Salient Squad. They could just be the only people truly excited for this event.

Q: Will there be an entry fee for spectators?

A: Yes the property is a private ball golf community and as such we will charge a entry fee which will be $10 at the gate per day ($20 for a 3 day pass) and $7 if ordered before the event.

. Oh well, So much for a large gallery

The laughable part of all of this is they are acting very matter of the fact about everything and almost surprised that people don't believe them.

They truly are that ignorant to their reputation.

On the other hand, they are at last answering (some) questions and providing some information.

Among other things, the question about whether this is destined for ESPN3, or another ESPN network, is answered.

Marketing.

True, but they seem shady about it. I don't comment on Facebook stuff like this so i am not sure how normal it is to basically erase every challenging question and only leave up the positive. Doesn't seem like a good strategy, but bad marketing(propaganda) is still classified as marketing.

My comment was on the payout issue.

The registration list is small beans compared to that but does relate.

If they are using part of the entry fee for payout it definitely matters how many have registered.

Also if they are going after sponsors, don't they need to be able to say that the top 10 ranked pros are going to be there?
