pretty sure Jared only played maybe 2 years or less before tourneys but someone here might know better. i remember him being one of the guys that made me want to be better at dosc golf. i traded him a kc pro teebird a couple years back. when i watched him throw it and realized what the disc was supposed to do i changed my disc golf goals.

I think BigSky is mostly right. If you are constantly practicing and playing, trying to get better at the game, you should hit 1000 rated rounds within five years. If you don't, it probably means you just aren't physically capable. I'm not sure I'd agree with the age limit. I think 40+ players (athletic ones, of course) still have a good chance at become 1000 rated.

I don't think anyone who is age 40+ would ever get to 1000, if they're starting from scratch.

Thanks, I'd love to be one of the guys to do it! Almost 44 now, my goal would be to accomplish this by end of 2015. I'm a bit of an outlier though in that I have a lot of time to play and practice... 600+ rounds and 12 tournaments since May 2013 and that was my first year playing, lol.

I have 2 little brothers that play, One has longer hair and lip piercings the other has colored hair and lip piercings.

I'm the same way - picked the game up late in 2012, at 47, now the goal is to get to 900 by the end of 2014 and qualify for AM Worlds in 2015, when I can compete at Advanced Grand Masters (50+).

Sorry, not yet. But hey, I first picked up a golf disc Sept. 2011 at age 50, and have thrown one sanctioned 978 round... does that mean anything?

Unfortunately, TONs of throws squeezed in, dozens of tourneys later, I'm still not rated out of Rec. The upside is being eligible for any division I want to play (except Novice...), I've actually won at least one tourney in four different divisions already. Reaching a 1000 rating though? In my dreams.

Hello Paul. Are there any pro surfers or skaters (male or female) from HB that play disc golf or have you seen any of the pros play dg in Huntington when in town for the US Open? I would think a few of those folks would be athletic enough to have a chance to win Open if they played consistently. Thanks.

I wish i can say i was 1000 rated player. thing is i need to get weekends off first so i can go to tournaments. based on scores here at dg course review. i am a 930 ish player. the harder courses i do bad at and the ok to easy courses i do well at.

but none of it matters.... sadly i dont go to touranaments. on the bright side all is subject to change... why you must ask... moving to Charlotte,NC in the next 4 months. wooo hooo

I know a few pro surfers that play but most are smaller than me and don't play seriously enough, more just for a good time. I know Tank Abbot and Kimo Leoplado play or played once in awhile. No skateboarders as far as I know.

I played in my first tournament in 2010 when I was 37 (PDGA# 48788). I'm rated at 989 now and should be higher if my last tournament (City of Fountains) in November with two rounds over 1000 was included like it should have been. It's absolutely possible for someone over 40 to pick up disc golf and get to 1000 rating. It is challenging to put the time in to practice and play as many tournaments as I would like, but I haven't played my best golf yet.

10 years ago I did a lot of data mining with the ratings database. Here are some examples that show progression from <=950 to 1000+. I know this has very little to do with the question in the OP, but you know how it goes.

(Aug-98 was the ratings epoch, so some of those early ratings might not have been "settled down" until after a larger sample size -- you'd have to ask Chuck how valid he feels they are.)
