My son is 12 but small for his age. I got him a UPD pinch. It is great, very versatile, but with one complaint: The side mesh pockets are wearing holes since that is where he puts the water bottle and every time he plops his bag down it hits the ground on the mesh. I have tried contacting them through their website by email and have not gotten any response. They appear to be undermanned right now by other threads on here. I am nearing the one year limited warranty too. So I guess I recommend it at least size wise, but the mesh pockets on the side where they picture putting the water bottles is a design flaw. There are no feet to keep bag off the ground to prevent this from happening. I have the UPD shift and have not had any issues with the side mesh pockets but they don't have water bottles in them and they are safely off the ground.
