NC fall trip - Boone or Charlotte?

Yes, I am enjoying the lower summer temperatures, and I look forward to the surreal beauty of Fall.

Winter? I'm afraid of it. I know many times I felt like I barely survived winter in Charlotte, and I know mountain winter is going to be long and difficult. I hope I can survive 23.5 hours indoors per day.
