Paige Pierce loses huge opportunity

There ya go, get heated about it.

What ifs are always a good starting point to a discussion in my experience.

I can see the point of making it more of a "joke", but any publicity is good publicity.

Just so everyone knows, in international football (soccer) if a player gets injured causing a turnover the other team ALWAYS kicks the ball back, no matter the stakes or the implications. In addition, there have been situations where teams allow own goals to even games when fluky stuff causes a goal via injury.

But of course those are socialist Europeans usually...

Because in soccer those "injuries" are always legit.

To me, one of the most entertaining aspects of sports is that a happy ending isn't always a guarantee. Any notion that players or their governing bodies should change standard operating procedure to compensate for an unfortunate circumstance that happened to an opponent cheapens that. These sort of things happen in sports all the time.

Player has a heart attack with his team down 1-0. The match is abandoned and ordered to be replayed in its entirety a few weeks later:

Whats to say Paige wouldnt have played even better with a bigger mountain to climb to catch Sarah? Ifs and buts, there is nothing to this story. She played her game, and won, can not fault her for that AT ALL.

Sarahs group on the day delaying as long as they 'legally' could and from all stories I have heard, the girls played in slow motion for those first 2 holes to get Sarah there. If they didnt do that, Sarah could have missed 4,5,6 holes, maybe more....she was awarded all the kindness and sportsmanship the girls HAD to give, end of story.

She still got second place after all that, amazing effort, be proud of her for that!!

This is all hearsay.

You guys are completely forgetting about Catrina also. She was one of only 2 women objecting to the decision to delay the tournament and have the PDGA actually follow their own rules. She was absolutely pissed off that they were making an exception for Hokum even though they didn't make an exception for her last year and I think that it absolutely affected her game. If the PDGA actually followed their rules then Hokum would have missed a 3rd hole and Catrina probably would have played so much better.

Therefore both Paige and Sarah should have laid up to give Cat the win. /semisarcasm

Didn't know that re: catrina. Thanks for the info, now I can actively root against her for being a titanic B.

Sarah had her chances in the final to take the win. She didn't. I've met Cat on multiple occasions, nice lady. The OP is idiotic.

2nd hand information from someone who was directly involved in the discussions:
Catrina walked away from the discussion saying that it shouldn't be a player decision and that she didn't want to be involved in it. If the TD wanted to delay, that's up to the TD. It's not up to the TD to ask the players if they want to delay.
I'm not really a huge Catrina fan, but I don't fault her for her reaction at all.

Thoughts?
My thoughts are that this opinion is dumb.

What happened to Sarah was unfortunate and i feel for her. Luckily it wasnt worse.

However, imo, its not different than your competitor who is throttling you apraining their ankle mid round and by virtue of that you catch them and win.
Part of the game is finishing the competition and showing up on time.

Those things are important just like throwing well is. Turn your ankle on a rock mid round while you're winning and what? They are supposed to wait for it to be better?

It is what it is, unfortunate and intentionally losing the most prestigious event in our sport is not good sportsmanship.

I was there and it was both Cat stating that it shouldn't be their decision and advocating that there should be no delay. She definitely walked away when she realized that there was no chance that they were going to start on time. Also, it was not the TD or the course director making the decision, it was Rebecca Duffy, the president of the PDGA who was in control of the horn and the start time as the course marshal.

It seems like people also forget the fact that even if SH didn't get into a car accident, there's no guarantee that the score on all of the other holes in the semi-final and final 9 would have been the same. With being in the lead, SH could of very well play "safe" on a few holes and PP being behind could of taken a few more risky birdies and things could ended the same way. At this point there's no way to know how things would have turned out.

Did you have the same feelings for all the ladies on the lead card last year that didn't wait for Cat when she was leading and didn't get to the right course on time?
