1a) Nockamixon
1b) Deer Lakes
1c) Moraine
2) The other 58 courses I have played.

Only other one on the list that I have played was Idlewild and I was not impressed. I would like to get back to make sure I didn't miss something.

There were definitely more scientific ways to do this. Maybe next I should do a poll of "The best way to poll the top 10 courses". :D At the risk of derailing my own thread, what would be the best way to decide this? Should there be a nomination thread first to determine what to vote on, then voting? Would that still be a popularity contest? Is it even possible to do this subjectively or are the standards too undefined to determine what the best course is?

You first have to figure out what you want to know by "best"

Is the best course the most fun?
The hardest (while still being fair).
The best atmosphere? Flyboy, Flip, Phantom Falls seem to fit that bill so it seems that it gets weight heavy.

Makes sense

I have played Bud Hill in a tournament, but didn't really see what the big deal was about it. Maybe the the fact that the only time I played it was on tournament week has something to do with my thoughts about it? I actually enjoyed the East course at Meeman Shelby State Park more than the Hill.

My personal favorite course is Old Post in Russellville, AR, but I am playing Selah next month, so I'll find out if they live up to the hype.

I have played three from the poll list, so here is my top three:
1. Maple Hill
2. Tyler
3. Brakewell Steel/Warwick Town Park

I've played quite a few of these, but a "Best Of" List that doesn't include Flyboy ?--- this thread should be terminated immediately.

Anyone in this video will agree with the above:

My top 5

1. Flyboy
2. Hawk Hollow
3. Maple Hill
4. Warwick
5. Parma, NY

Honorable mention: Blockhouse as a set

I have not played, Flip, Idlewild, Blue Ribbon or Beaver Ranch.
I need to go back to Deer Lakes, I hear it has improved a lot since my visit.

My favorites

West Lake, Davenport IA
Maple Hill, MA
Wildcat Bluff, Urbana IA
Diamond X, MT
Seneca Creek, MD
Camden II, Milan IL

Of the ones listed in the poll, I have only played two, Maple Hill and Water Works. Water Works is a nice course, but it wouldn't make my top 20. Makes me a little suspicious about some of the other ones on that list. Guess I better play more of them and find out.

Like, my top 3 aren't even in the poll. :\

Really, Seneca. Did you play Patapsco?

I see you have. You liked Seneca better than Rockburn and Patapsco. What did you like best about it?

It's been few years since I played Patapsco and I was a different player at that time. Rockburn was a little odd the way it was built over a farm around fences and buildings and such. I thought both of those were good courses, but not being from the area, I need to be really motivated by something special to make a trip back to the same course. I liked Seneca enough to go back there a couple times when travelling to DC area for work. I like it better for a few reasons, I thought the long holes down along the creek were better than anything at either of the Rockburn or Patapsco. The fact that it is 27 holes in one location is a plus. Also I liked that it is secluded without other park users competing for the space. However I do recall the variety is not as great as it could be.

Idlewild is the only one I've played from your list so it got my #1 vote for purposes of the poll. Now my personal top 5.

#1) Idlewild, KY... simply the best combination of holes and amenities of the courses that I've played.

#2) Woodshed, WV... the next best combination of holes I've played, without the nice tees, signs, etc. (Plus there's the added bonus of Whippin' Post on site.)

#3) Golden Hills, VA... It's been several years since I played this course, but I just loved the woods and the hills, etc.

#4) Canoe Creek, PA... Oh how I wish it was 18 holes instead of 9. Just a personal favorite here.

#5) Orange Crush, WV... Much like Golden Hills on steroids!

I have played eight of those... and Idlewild still gets my vote.
