1950s called, wants it's shtick back.
Just because men and women are different doesn't mean that anyone is purposely trying to treat them differently.
Didn't someone even say in this thread that Des was pissed back in 2007/08 worlds when the women had different tees to play than the men? If anything, the PDGA is a great spot for women to be treated equally since
they are allowed to play against the men if they so choose! Heck, they even get to play the exact same course/layout/tees at the same time. There are a ton of other sports where that just isn't going to happen no matter how bad they want to, or how good their skills are compared to the men. Physically, there will always be a gap. There is at the elite levels in every single sport. You can't deny biological differences.
We don't need to level the playing field. We don't need to get rid of gender protected divisions, as they are there for those that want them. We don't need women to play from shorter tees all the time, such as in ball golf - when men and women are playing the same course.
What do we need then? For everyone to play disc golf and not worry about gender being correlated directly to skill/rating/etc. I see it every day my wife and I get to play. I can outdrive her, with accuracy. Which is no surprise, as I'm stronger and have a more practiced technique; but many rounds she's hitting ICPs just as much if not at a higher rate than I am, and the only difference in our scores really is the difference in our drives. She's a good player no matter how far she drives (especially when she's practiced up). Her rating doesn't matter.
If people want to see a 1000 rated female player so badly, then implement a coefficient for ratings based on female gender. Otherwise, they can earn it just like any other male player. Level playing field.
My conclusion: On the FPO level, if the girls have the capability of driving good golf distances (325-350') then consistency has to be the key to them being rated better. It's a difference of 2-4 shots a round for the top girls to consistently see 1000 rated rounds. Once we have a full year of WDGT stats we can have concrete evidence where that consistency needs to come from.
sorry for the scatterbrained post. Haven't had my caffeine yet this morning :hfive:
