[Vs.] Rate Disc Golf companies from first to worst.

1. ABC Discs- I have yet to throw a bad disc by them
2. Innova- Something for everyone
3. Discraft- Something for everyone

Every company has their strengths and weaknesses. Many players, as seen in the thread, are old school and throw what they know. Innova and Discraft. Imagine the thousands of players out there who aren't on DGCR and have been playing for many years. Chances are good that few of them throw the newer brands.

All manufacturers make good discs. And all of us here posting could switch bags around from manufacturer to manufacturer and play just as well. Well, you'd have a tough time making an all Aerobie, or all Salient bag. :p

I always chuckle when players say that certain manufacturers "didn't work out for them" or something along those lines. It's more honest to say that you like what you like, and don't want to switch. And there's nothing wrong with that. :)

1. Innova/Mill/DM
2. Latitude/DD/Westside
3. Discraft
4. Legacy
5. Vibram
6. Gateway
7. Prodigy
8. Prodiscus
9. ABC
10. DGA
11. Daredevil
12. Ching
13. Crosslap
14. UB
15. Aerobie
16. Discwing
17. RIP
18. Lightning
19. DGK
20. Kastaplast
21. Wham-O
22. Quest
23. Salient
24. MVP

I'll take #13.

Since it's disc golf companies, not disc manufacturers, the two should be separate. DGA makes some of the best baskets. DGA's rank should be based on things other than Discraft molded discs, though.

ever look close at a discraft chainstar? pretty much the same thing as a mach 5 other than 2 or 3 variances (the inner chains ring, the length of the center pole, and maybe a difference in cage depth depending on the year of manufacture).

I'll bite:
1. Discraft: They make the Buzzz, right? Ok, good!
2. MVP: taking up a good portion of my bag now while I feel like neutron plastic is one of the best plastics on the market. Super durable and controllable discs but got knocked down from the number one spot for the obvious reasons listed earlier (no max speed drivers or base plastics)
3. Westside: a very interesting selection of discs in an amazing selection of plastics. They could easily take mvp's spot with the fact they have some double digit speed drivers and some fun looking new discs on the way. Also damn cool stamp designs.
4. Gateway: They make the wizard, right? Ok, good!
5. Innova: not the worst, far from it, just at the bottom of my list. The best and largest selection of discs but I really only like their star plastic. I really don't like the feel of dx and champion.

These are soley based on my personal preferences and experience:

1. Discraft. My favorite mid lineup by far and I use several of their drivers. Their limitation is really their fairway drivers. I love the FLX or Crystal FLX plastic and no one else has anything similar to this plastic IMO. Most of my bag is generally Discraft.

2. Innova. It is the kingpin of discs. Innova has the complete lineup. I use the Aviar and many of their drivers. The fact that most historical technological jumps were made by Innova cannot be ignored. However, the inconsistency in molds and changing molds while keeping the same name drives me crazy. What is a roc for example? There are 50 different types. It should not be rocket science to simply buy a disc. When you try to replace a disc why is it somehow different? uhhh

3. Prodigy. It may be premature but I think this company has a real shot to be great. I really like their plastic. The plastic itself sets them up as a real contender. The weaknesses are the early inconsistencies and the fact that all of the distance drivers are warp speed drivers. Their drivers all go from speed 8 to speed 14? Why not some drivers in the speed 10 or even 11 catagory? However, their fairway drivers are really good discs. I also like the M2 but I have not tried any of their other mids at this point. The two putters I have tried seem like simple remakes of other companies' putters.

4. Latitude 64/Dynamic Discs. They have really nice plastic and I really like the Latitude gold line plastic. However, many of the colors are dark colors that I hate. Some of their fairway driver molds are some of my favorites. I also really like the Dynamic Disc molds, particularly the Judge, Trespass and Escape.

5. Legacy. They do not have a large lineup but their plastic is great and I really like their fairway molds. The Patriot is a great disc. It might be unfair to rank them this high because of the limited molds but they have done a great job to this point. They have a great owner which makes me want them to succeed.

6. Gateway. The bottom line is that the Wizard is a great putter and the Warlock, Vodoo, and Magic are also good molds. My main complaint is that I cannot find a Wizard in similar feel or plastic to the one I have had for three years. I have tried. I am inclined to replace the Wizard for a Judge because of the plastic issues. Their inconsistencies are the reason they do not rank higher.

I cannot fairly rank the other companies. I have only tried one or two of their discs. The DGA Rogue is one of my favorite discs, but I do not use any of their other discs. I like the Discmania FD but I have not felt any of their other molds were particularly special. I tried several MVP but did not like them. They were pretty but did not fit my hands. Quest and Lightning are crap.

1 - Latitude 64° / Westside / Dynamic Discs - No plastic feels as good to me. Nor is any plastic as beautiful as GL/Tournament/Fuzion. Also my favorite plastic to dye. Holds a dye extremely well. Complete lineup between the 3 companies. And I don't think any company is as open and friendly with the customers as Latitude is.

2 - Prodiscus - Premium blend plastic may be the top champ type plastic on the market. Great discs, great bags. Unfortunately still too difficult to find and purchase.

3 - Legacy - Solid lineup. Solid plastics. Great owners.

4 - Innova / Discmania - Love the drivers and fairways. Not such a fan of the mids and putters. Heresy, I know.

5 - MVP - Production quality is fantastic. Just never really thrown anything of theirs I really clicked with

6 - Discraft - Thrown a bunch of their discs. Nothing has ever really clicked. Probably the worst plastic for dyeing. Mostly because of their horrendous stamps.

I care more about molds than manufacturers, so my list is based on the mold from each manufacturer.

1. Innova family - Roc, PD, Teebird, Banshee, Destroyer, JLS, TD2

2. Lat family - Pure

3. Legacy - Rival

4. Discraft - Zone

Thats my whole bag, so that is all I will comment on.

Here is my list, and the discs I have experience with.

1. Dynamic Discs, latitude 64, and westside, judge, warden, escape, trespass, suspect, sword, warship, underworld, fury, saint, pure, bolt, fuse, mace.
Plastic is great, and the lineup is solid for any play level. Plus, glide for years!

2. Innova, discmania, millenium, aviar, roc, valkarie, katana, boss, destroyer, wraith, shark, roc3, tern, teedevil, krait, teebird, beast, leopard, cheetah, qolf, pd freak
Innova has any disc you might need, and thekr plastics are pretty good. Can't hate on em too much, but they need some updates. Dx stamped champion discs sell at a premium, when they should be the norm. With a few new logos, and a focus on modernizing their image (jolly rancher plastic begs for some sweet new stamps) they will keep their edge for a long time.

3. Vibram, lace, ascent, trak, ridge, vp, obex, ibex.
What they do, they do well. Discs are great, look is interesting, and really a must have when it is raining. My only complaint is lack of molds, and that they can't do beautiful clear plastics.

4. MVP, ion, anode, amp, vector, tangent. I like MVP, but their discs don't fly well for me. When a disc doesn't work, even though it is probably my fault, it means you walk away from a company.

5. Gateway, wizard.
One disc, and the company is in my top five. They are putter masters, and that is all anyone really seems to know.

6. Legacy, cannon and ghost
They are okay, but I don't think they do anything really different from innova.

7. Discraft, nuke, buzzz, wasp, banger, rattlr, comet, predator.
In my opinion, discraft is a dying brand. They survived as an alternative to innova, and now there are many better options.

Here's what I like about the companies-

Discraft: I can see their discs on the ground more easily than I can see innova discs. I don't know what the difference is, but it's for real. Also X-Comet is so friken awesomesauce you could blend it and serve it on tacos.

Innova: Their sponsored players, current and former, have really precise technique so it's easy to learn from watching them. Probably 'cuz they all took lessons from Feldie (yes, that's complete speculation). I don't like their plastics as much as their competitors.

Gateway: Yay putters. Every company makes great putters, but gateway makes gateway putters. That makes them like double-great, at least. I suspect the glow versions might be as high as thrice-great.

Lat 64: Opto plastic feels better than anything when I'm playing early in the morning and the grass is wet. I really wish my 150g diamond had been a color other than yellow. I can't see yellow discs. I hope it found a good home. Yes, I ordered a color other than yellow but that's life.

1) Discraft.....Magnet, Ringer, Buzzz, Drone, old mold Predator
- Buzzz guy (not Rocs) for the better part of a decade
- I've thrown the Drone since it was released and struggle to get how some people think overstable mids aren't necessary.

2) Millennium.....JLS, OLF
- The JLS was one of two discs my brother had when he first showed me this sport. I bought one not long after and have loved them my entire DG career.
- After a tedious trial and error, the OLF is by far my favorite "control driver."
- These molds are so versatile across the plastic spectrum and are both sneaky long that I leave out the Pred/Cannon

3) DGA.....Breaker, Tsunami
- Thanks for a premium plastic Ringer.
- Thanks for the old mold Predator.

4) Legacy.....Clutch?, Cannon
- I've tried all the max speed drivers (aside from Prodigy, DD, Salient..I don't think I ever will:sick:) and none compared. Don't use it too often (no need) but man does that thing go when I do.
- Testing the Clutch to replace my OOP Magnets...great stuff so far.

5) Westside.....Tursas
- I was a devoted Cobra thrower and still have a stack in my closet, but the Tursas is just too money. The Fuse was the only thing that made me truly question selling my Cobras but the "+" style rim REALLY effected any FH/OH shot. The Tursas has the slightest angle to it's rim, but I've been getting clean releases since the first day I threw one.

Innova: Their sponsored players, current and former, have really precise technique so it's easy to learn from watching them. Probably 'cuz they all took lessons from Feldie (yes, that's complete speculation).

This makes me smile. :)

Way to take a side...

Firsts:

Innova- top, without them disc golf wouldn't have gotten this far and most modern molds are made in reaction to their molds

Discraft-my personal top just because their molds work well for me (Honestly have never owned a Discraft mold that I have a negative opinion of)

Gateway- great putters and great plastic options

Lasts:
Prodigy-with all of the fuss, they haven't really done anything completely game changing in terms of equipment, just copies in good plastic
MVP-fanboys

For me the companies tend to break down by catagory. For instance my midrange lineup was exclusively Discraft for a while, where my drivers were Innova heavy, and my putters have been a mixed bag. However, overall I'd rank them:

1. Innova: Can't beat the selection of molds, even if I hate the inconsistency.

2. MVP: Love the consistency, but some molds are a little touchy, requiring abundant spin in order to get proper flight. Both of my aces are with MVP discs (ironically Anode on a hyzer and Tensor on an anhyzer) so I'm a little biased. Fanboys can be a turnoff, but the discs are consistent and actually revolutionary, so I try to tune them out.

3. Discraft: Love the Comet, Buzzz, Hornet, Zombie, Avenger SS and the new Ace Race disc. ESP FLX is a fairly unique plastic, and CryZtal is absolutely beautiful.

4. Lat64 and Co.: Beautiful plastic but I've only clicked with with a couple of their discs.

5. Vibram: Love the VP, haven't really had much luck with anything else, but I love the way they look and feel.

6. Gateway: Ended up giving away my "Lotion" stamped Wizard to a friend who hit his first ace with it. I miss the stamp more than the disc, as the VP and Anode are my current putter lineup, and the Wizard couldn't carve a niche.

7. Aerobie: The Epic is a neat idea. Too bad the plastic is too soft for consistency.

Those are the only brands that have had an extended place in my bag. Towards the bottom of my list are:

Last Place: Prodigy: Too much early hype and douchery from their "super team" for me to want to buy their products, especially when there are plenty of better discs and equally good plastics out there. If they actually ever come up with something revolutionary the way they promised I might give them a chance, but until they actually live up to 10% of the hype they generated I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Salient: The Prometheus is another disc that didn't live up to what it was supposed to be, and I won't be preordering anything else from these guys.

UB: Focused too much on design and not enough on quality. When you have to recall an entire line of discs that's a little worrisome. I haven't seen the Tasty Proculs, but the Creamy plastic was a serious turn off.

DGA: Tried a Blowfly. My brother's dog chewed it up. Didn't buy another. End of story.

5. Innova - I love their Millennium produced stuff. The OLF is a fantastic disc. I never clicked with any Innova disc I purchased. I don't like their plastic although the newer gummy stuff is very nice. I hated DX plastic at first but that stuff beats into to magic butter. Feels great but then you get into the whole thing of cycling discs which don't really care for. And right or wrong Innova always comes off to me as very Corporate and evil empire like.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Way to take a side...

Way to troll. :p

My allegiance is seen in my sig. But that does not take away from the fact that Innova, Gateway, Millennium, Lat, and every other company I've thrown makes great discs.

1. lat/dd/westside - best plastic out there. so much glide. they dye beautifully.
2. Legacy - great plastic. cool molds. also dye beautifully.
3. MVP - awesome discs for dyeing. the volt bombs! they need a high speed driver!!
4. Discraft - buzz, crank, comet, lots of good things here. but hate their plastic.
5. Innova - so many choices in molds, plastics and easily available everywhere.

I forgot Prodigy. Great plastic and great molds. I would have to slot them 3 and kick Innova off my list.
