[Innova] Spider, Panther, Cro why no love

I carry both a star cro, and a champ panther. These are my workhorse mids. I can do about anything with either. I have tossed a spider here and there, just never bought one. I have tried rocs, makos, coyotes, and atlas, also buzzzes and just do not click with the wider mids. I have much, much better control with the narrow diameter mids. I am wondering why these discs get no love. Even the skeeter is a great disc for me and most on here think that disc is just a joke because of the dome. So what gives? Why no love for some IMO really great discs?

I have never thrown the Panther or Spider and have hardly ever seen them in person, but totally agree with the Cro.

It's a great little mid that flies like a Roc without the bead and the small diameter makes it much easier for me to manipulate. You can hyzer it, flip it, throw turnovers, flick it, and you can even putt with it.

Makes a great single disc round disc too!

There's decent amount of love for the panther if you search the forums. I love it as well, the only thing is it is kind of fast and hard to range as a mid for me. Very fast and glidey can be bad sometimes.

I had a star cro, it was ok, but I just found other mids that were better for me. Sometimes the cro was not predictable, I wasn't sure if it was staying stable or turning on some throws.

Overstable mids are easier to control, because you can just throw them harder or softer, but when they are understable, you have to learn how to get just the right angle, if you want to flip them up or if you want them to turn over and pan right.

That being said, I love the Panther, I started throwing that when I wanted to disc down from a Leopard, I flick these when my lie is behind cover, I plant my left foot, step out with my right, and throw a flex shot that is very reliable.

The Spider is a wonderful disc, and since the Buzzz is my go-to mid, I've had a hard time fitting it in to my bag, but finally did. I like just having it in there, its like a faster Voodoo, it has little turn unless you crank on it, so I throw it more like an approach disc than a mid.

Skeeters are a great toss disc if you put the time in to figure them out.

Can't say much about Cros, though. Too close to a Spider, and I love those too much.

Yes, for most its the Roc or the Buzzz, but Innova has a great variety of mids, even if its overwhelming. For a course with shorter holes, or a one disc round, I'll take a Spider any day.

I know Spiders get a lot of love from forehand dominant players, stable but not too glidey so they are great for the woods or tight lines, pairs well with the Gator.

I had an R-Pro Cro that was the only disc I would putt with when it was windy. Lost it in deep water on the windiest day I have ever played. Have not replaced it yet but will before winter starts.

You could definitely rock a small diameter mid-range lineup with the choices Innova gives you. I used to throw the Cro quite a bit and it is a great disc. Same goes for the Spider and Panther. I still throw Panthers. I do agree they're a little faster and tough to range but they can throw on a lot of lines and take less effort to put out there.

But Kite, Skeeter, Panther, Cro, Spider, Gator...that's a lot of solid discs that cover the range from understable to overstable quite well.

spider is a utility disc. its like a brick-has no glide. its great for placement shots. and get out of sticky situations. i used to carry a dx forever. i have a buddy who bags a star. there awesome, its just i can get other discs to just about cover the same uses the spider does. spider hits and sticks.

had this discussion with others in a thread but cant remember which one. but my opinion was agreed upon FWIW

All of mids you listed have smaller diameters than your conventional mid like a Roc, Comet or Buzzz. The smaller diameter kills any sort of glide and most of the discs' line shaping ability. They are not bad discs, but are really one trick ponies compared a more common large diameter mid.

Never thrown a Panther, but I do bag a DX Cro and a Champ Spider, along with my 2 beat in Rocs. For me the Spider is better at holding an anhyzer line. On multiple occasions, I have thrown it out of some junk on the right of the fairway to park it under the basket. I love my Cro for anything longer than my comfort zone with my putters, yet shorter than my Rocs. Its very accurate for me. They both will always have a home in my bag.

I've been throwing a champ Panther recently and while it can be a little tough to gauge distance with, it no where near as tough to gauge as the Meteor and the Fuse which the Panther has replaced as my under stable mid.

I haven't thrown a Cro, but will look into it next time I come across one. My mids are Roc's and I'm happy with them. I used to throw a Buzzz, had 4 of them but they didn't click with me.

I don't disagree but honestly the Spider doesn't really fit that description (does not glide well though). It's a good-at-everything and great-at-nothing mold for sure. Matter of fact now I miss throwing Spiders . . .

I always liked Spiders. Can do a lot with one, would be up there on my list of discs to use for a 1 disc round. Not sure why I stopped throwing them.

I like my champ panther... it works for me, but wish I had pulled the trigger on a Star Cro I was looking at last week... A buddy said it'll stay in his bag forever

Used to love the spider when I first started, I might pick up a DX one and see if I still like them

I doubt Innova will ever be able to create a run of Champion Panthers like the older Multi Purpose stamped ones, but hopefully they try running Panthers in GStar, I think that would render a really effective Panther with good rotation, good glide, etc.

The panther I have is a bit of a mystery. It is stamped with flight numbers, but the plastic and tool markings on the back of the disc are identical to the pfn multi-purpose disc stamped panther I used to have. I honestly believe it is an older run that was stamped with the current stamp. This panther is beginning to be my most thrown disc. The two star cros I have are also pfn patent number discs. So easy to range and able to fly so many lines. I also throw gators. This seems to be the perfect mid set up for me. I am thinking about a spider just because.
