Your best shot/throw of 2014?!

After taking an 8 on the first round on this long and heavily wooded par 5 at Sakuna ADV tournament (my first tourny) I pulled it together on the 2nd round and laced my tee shot down the fairway.

2nd shot is over trees and up a long hill. Managed a long flexing anhyzer that missed every tree, putting me in a nice alley to approach the bucket. I can still remember the disc banking high and whizzing past the trees that had mowed down so many of my previous rounds' shots.

What felt like a triple bogey prison beating the first round turned into a bird in the 2nd.

Tomahawk Ace

I had my first and only tomahawk ace in October of this year.

It is just a short little hole (200 and change) that has a fairly easy hyzer line. However, it is my home course and I get bored, so I had been throwing a tomahawk over the trees for fun.

As soon as it left my hand I said out loud "well that has a shot" CRASH right in the middle of the heart of the chains. To make it better, it was with the first disc I ever owned. Star Sidewinder that was gifted to me when I first started playing.

Mine has to be at New Hanover Community Park in PA. I decided to play the short course as it was in the neighborhood of my wife's uncle. I walk up to hole 8 which has no line and ace it with a zone.

I can't really think of a "best shot" for myself this year besides this one I am about to describe.

It was at Sycamore Creek on hole 12 during the Memorial Day event, which was just a little free-to-play tourney for fun.

I wanted to use this pic to help describe this shot as well as an awesome shot my brother had just a few weeks ago. This is an old pic of the course, but it still works.

The tee pad is further to the right here so you get a straight look at the gap in the trees. It's about a 310' shot and you must hit the gap which is about 25 feet across. I hyzer flipped my beloved Teebird (RIP) straight where it needed to go and hit the gap perfectly, parked for a 15' putt which I made. It's actually a pretty tough shot to make the gap as it's right in front of the pin and going left or right pretty much screws your birdie chances.

Which brings me to the best shot I saw this year, my twin brother's shot on this very same hole just a few weeks ago. His drive went into the bushes on the right side of the gap. He then proceeded to forehand anhyzer his putter out around the trees, flattens out perfectly straight into the basket. He sank a 60'+ anny flick out of trouble, one of the most beautiful shots I've ever seen.

back to back aces at hidden lake

such a chucker course but it was still cool

in late spring I finally aced a hole that I have chained-out on dozens of times over the years. nothing fancy, just a 205' alley with a backstop that just begs you to run at it, but the only ace I've seen on it was by a newbie buddy years ago with a destroyer :gross:

the basket was moved shortly thereafter, from the position visible in the above pic to the yellow arrow, so I may have hit the last ace on the original position. neutron envy secured its spot in my bag with that throw.

Getting the first ever ace on Hole 12 at Sawmills DGC. Of all the holes on the course, it would have been in my top 3 that I would be least likely to ace.

Well done friend. I am not sure if the tee shot or the second shot is more impressive.

Hit two actual aces this year that were OK, but also had two third shots that were more memorable (some folks call 'em 'field aces', but that's just semantics). Playing a solo round at Osage Grove, on hole 8, I threw a decent drive, a terrible upshot that clipped a tree, then drilled the basket with a 120' Buzzz shot. But I actually paced out the 170 footer I hit at Cedar Sentinels (hole 17) in a tournament to save a three after two rotten shots.

My ACE at this year's Down East Player's Cup in Greenville, NC. Hole 4 from the long pad. Laser FH shot with a huge flare at the end. Used a 175g Glow Champion Firebird. 2nd PDGA ace. BOOM!

I heard that ace!! Nice shot.

Best shot of the year was probably an approach on #10D at Seneca Creek. From the woods on the left edge of the fairway, I stretched out and threw a perfect C-shaped sidearm anny that flew right of the trees, held the turn back into the woods, and slid up next to the basket.

If I threw that shot another hundred time I might not pull it off again. :D

Probably Hole #13 at Lake Nac, hit a 3 par save (would now be a birdie, it's a par 4 now) with the most ridiculous tomahawk you'll ever see.

It's a 373 ft hole that goes uphill for about the first 280' in the woods, then goes diagonally left another 40~ ft and then diagonally right the last 53~ft. Anyway I throw my drive and almost make it up the hill leaves me in an awkward spot so I try anny something understable (forgot what) and completely shank it straight into what I call the pit of death. Basically a small steep "valley" for lack of terrain knowledge right before the basket if you go straight and not left and right. There's a downed tree and so much foliage and general crap that it pretty much leaves you no choice but to pitch back up to the fairway to the left. Well i felt brave that day and decided to cut through the wall of crap in front of me straight to the basket and just heaved my Challenger uphill and it somehow someway avoided about 60 ft worth of vines and dived straight into the basket. I actually didn't even see it go in I just heard a loud SMASH and my buddy jumping up and down hollering in disbelief!

Actually that may just be the luckiest shot i'll ever make. Let's just leave it at that lol

I think the shot I will remember most from this year will be my one legged ace - I'm sure I had many other great shots, but 10 years from now I'll still be telling about that one.

Let me elaborate, I realize very few people get the full reference.

About 4 months ago I shattered my calcaneus (heel bone), recovery has been a long process. About a month in I was prescribed an iWalk - a hands free crutch that allows me to walk like a pirate on a peg leg while my heel heals. A week and a half ago I played my first competitive round of disc golf since the accident, a doubles match at CP Adams. I played the entire thing on my iWalk, my right foot never touched the ground except for a couple of putts. Hole 5, my 4th hole of the round. Probably less than 200', plays maybe 250' because it's fairly steep uphill. My drive, a beat dx teebird found a tight line up the gut on a hyzer flip, skipped straight ahead, tickled the chains and fell in the basket for a payday of $100.
