[Compare] Favorites going OOP??

I happen to throw a couple of oddball molds that are/soon may be OOP. Once I clicked with these said discs I quickly sought after/stocked/bought as many as I could, having done so I should be set for a long time.

But as a nerdy disc golfer I got to thinking and theory crafting.

As with any thread I post I want to express this is for FUN!

no nonsense/ripping on others/general disregard for forum guidelines (obviously right? :doh

I'm looking for hypothetical*s posted by other for others simply for comparison/advice sake.

Since *I* happen to throw innova/discmania I would love to get feedback from people that throw MVP,Gateway,Discraft,Prodigy,trilogy, etc. on molds that could replaced my staples/ours/yours.

These are the two questions that I thought mattered the most to get things rolling

What if (YOU/I) had to change discs due to a *random* pipe dream sponsorship (regardless of your preferred brands, the idea is you have to leave your comfort zone and find molds to replace your current line up.)

What if (YOU/I) lost all of my back ups and finding more means paying high premiums and long searches (which for this threads sake *We're not down with .

trying to limit this to OOP/sought after/endangered/personal favorites/oddball. 3 MOLDS NOT YOUR ENTIRE BAG.

Rhyno___ If I was without my stash of "flat top DX" and pro rhynos I (think) would be throwing:

Scale Great plastic, fantastic mold, and FLAT FLAT FLAT!!!!

I've always heard that they were overstable, never seen/thrown one.

OMG I'm not well versed on trilogy molds/plastic blends, but every time I pick up this one harp at my local circuit's traveling store; it's like a sweet tim O'brian/grateful dead/NRBQ cover band starts playing songs just for me........... but really. Flat, (I've heard overstable?) eraser/good pro/grippy goodness. What is this creamy white blend??

If I was without this mold I don't know what I'd do.. so I started looking at inbound etc. I prefer the slim/flat profile.

Aurora MF (idk if this is made anymore? would love some ZAm or Threeputt enlightenment)

MD2 (flat run maybe?) Being a discmania fan I have always kept an eye on this mold. From what I understand there are DOMEY and FLAT versions and both have a following. Are MD2's a slimmer profile and HSS like the champ cobra??

The new gateway devil hawk feels a lot like the rhyno, thumbtrac and board flat. Flies pretty similar too, not quite as overstable but close.

I'm going to have to find another mold to replace the daedalus prototype, since it went OOP before it ever went into production and eventually they're going to run out in the factory store.

TL3 I don't expect to go oop any time soon but its a staple and I have no idea what's similar to it.

Last would be the mako3, which I could see them phasing out to avoid confusion with their new vtech line. I would probably try a prodigy m3 or m4 but those are just guesses.

I'm slightly worried the tl3 could go away. It was my favorite disc last year but it seems overlooked by most.

So you want recommendations for replacing your Rhyno, King Cobra and FD?
Harp, Mace, Stalker (although I'm not well-versed on FD runs)

If my Aftershock went OOP, I'd probably rock the Truth/Verdict combo.

I could swap my Tsunami for a Pred, my Squall could be replaced with a Stalker, Zombee or maybe a Mantis, and Titanic to KC Pro Aviar or maybe a Shield.

If the comet went oop I would be in trouble. I would probably go back the fuse and re-rig for 3 spots instead of 2 .but there really is nothing like a comet.

It would cause my mids to go vector/axis/fuse Instead of roc/comet.

I'd be screwed if they stopped making kc aviars. I don't think wizards would do it for me as much as I love them. I need a deeper dish. I'd probably try the shield or go back to anodes or ions. but probably the shield Even though I've never tossed one I like the feel in the hand.

I could rock shield/polecat on the putt approach and driving pretty easy. But my putting would suffer 100%.

Everything else in my bag is fairly replaceable. Even the tb since I have only had them for a few months. Polecat would be tough, really tough, but I bet I could go back to pures without a problem and just keep my zh/zs/opto combo rocking. That or soft anodes and summit combo again.

Giants would get replaced by destroyers.

Tesla would be a pd, olfs take the backseat now that the gpd is out.

Tb would be a crave.

Roc would be a vector Or ghost, probs ghost.

Xxx would be an h1.

The only one of those 3 I throw is a rhyno. If I wasn't sponsored by innova (hehehehe) Id throw the new gateway putter. Stability wise it's actually pretty close but feels better in the hands because it's not deep.

Tursas are pretty flippy...fuse is understable, not as much as a tursas but not as neutral as a comet either.

Tursas are fun discs to throw though.

ont cobra and king cobra aren't the same, but very close. ontario dx cobras are easy to find cheap and are great throwers. I also bag a champ. never got down with the plus rim king cobra

I'm actually doing this, sort of. I have an MVP bag and a Trilogy bag that I alternate between depending on my mood. The only discs I have not found replacements for yet are the Volt on the MVP side. Before you suggest it, Saint Pro is NOT a Volt. And I haven't found a XXX or Verdict equivalent from the Trilogy bag. I've heard I should try Resistor and Tensor, just haven't gotten to throw them yet.

Innova has been putting out some new Ontario Cobras. They just can't decide which mold they like, and certainly can't make both molds in dx They're nice, but most likely they used the King Cobra mold and they're plus rim. Unless they look reaaaallly old. Then buy them up and sell them online.

I did several measurements/observations on my stash I can confirm that my DX stamped champs and my DD glow king cobras (I did not check the stock stamp) have the same plh, normal rim config, tooling, etc.


I also talked to innova and sent an email to a production manager to get a confirmation if the mold has changed at all, But I don't think that this is a plus mold sirs.

The second run FD seems to have be brought back in large quantities. I have seen more in my local shops and online than I have in the past. You can get a killer deal on a number of 2nd run FD x-outs through the DM store. Stock up so you don't have to worry

I think they will continue to produce the 2nd runs as they are very different from the third and first runs.

I've never confirmed with ryan or anyone but wasn't it a happy accident? as in they couldn't reproduce the same happenstance variables that made the second runs?

I've always be under the impression that they were made once, meaning a finite amount, that is slowly dwindling.

Swan 2- This would hurt as I throw them for turnovers and it's my putting putter. I'd just move over to the Swan 1. Heehee!

Shield- Probably throw the Envy.

Jokeri- For the beef I'd throw the Harp.

They made Lizotte DG stamped 2nd run FD's, so maybe he has grown a liking to them.

The three staples in my bag would probably go something like this;

Ape- would probably use one of these; Da'E, Giant, Nuke OS or Enforcer.

Firebird- would likely never go OOP but I may use a Motion, Felon, or XXX in that spot. Or perhaps just not fill that slot and use my Tridents there.

Touch- I would go back to using Evo Wizards or Warlocks.

I had to do this as the supply of affordable Tachyon 4.1 LFs has run low. And have finally found the 175+ Opto Trident to be a good replacement even if it's not exactly the same.
