American Disc Golf Tour

I hadn't finished contemplating all the holes in the rules yet.

David,

Here are the rules as of Jan 15, 2016. They consist of 12 screen shots so it's going to take 4 separate posts. Here are the first 3 screen shots:

Call me crazy, insane even....but I'm guessing it's all over and not coming back.

If you know anything about salient then you know they are not going to go away, they just stay where they are and keep bringing down the sport. They do whatever they can do to make money at everybody elses expense.

I think he meant that the ADGT is going away.

Though they could be revamping it, to address all of our concerns, and announce it with a new website and facebook page. That's not the way I'm betting, but who knows?

You are giving them WAY too much credit. They are total shysters, that at this point cannot be disputed, but they have absolutley zero impact in the sport of disc golf. On thr game side (i.e. super casual) they probably haven't had much overall impact either.

They are nothing. They are beneath our contempt.

Well aware of what he is talking about but salient just simply doesnt go away. And since the ADGT is salient then I doubt that they will go away. I sure hope they do though.

Have followed this thread since it started. As stated before, have never had any dealings with Salient. I am amazed at how many of you seem to want them to fail with this "tour". With every step back, y'all seem giddy. Very strange.

One of their C-tiers went away.

So did the statewide tour they started up a couple of years ago. It lasted for one event, I believe.

They could fold the tent on the ADGT and continue on with merchandise sales, particularly bags.

Then you clearly have not followed this thread or you are someway affiliated with Failient. The kind of shenanigans they have pulled time and time again is beyond repairable to the dg community. It almost makes me think that Kilgus got his doctorate from The University of Phoenix

The rules changed a lot from the original version.

Some are below:
- you cannot not borrow a disc from a competitor
- you cannot blow your nose with a competitor's towel (shirt is ok though)
- you cannot do the squiggly wonk if you are on the lead card
- you can only carry 30 discs (your caddy can carry another 30 though)
- you cannot chew gum unless you offer everyone else some
- if your shoe becomes untied you must re-throw from the tee with a 1 stroke penalty

Maybe someone else remembers more.

and
-On Wednesdays we wear pink

It's funny because I'm a 100% hater on the ADGT circus but your pretty much right. I think for me what it comes down to is that I knew from the get go it was going to fail, so I get excited every time said fail seems more and more immenent

Yep, the tour seems to have very little confidence from anyone. They would probably have to take a loss on the first tour and pay the top pros to play in order to prove they can pull it off. And then the following year they can start recouping their investments. Hell, that's what I would do the first tour at least. Ante up some bucks, pay the top pros to play, guarantee a good show to prove your format works!

It's been a longterm pattern with the people behind Salient, so this is isn't exactly a sentiment that has just grown overnight. Regardless of if people truly want to see them fail, everyone loves a little drama now and then.

From a journalistic standpoint, this is one of those times where I wish disc golf were big enough to justify a salary for me so I could spend copious amounts of time writing a longform article on the rise and stall (not quite willing to say fall just yet) of this venture...Methinks it would be entertaining.

Someone should point out that we like to think that reputation matters. If you do something wrong, you should pay a price. All to often, that isn't the case. Nike uses child labor, and after a little anger, poof, it's gone. BP poisons the Gulf, and after some anger and a rather small fine, poof, it's gone. In a small community, it's a lot harder to poof things. Salient came into this venture with a history, one they built stone by stone. Now they are paying the price for that. Frankly, those saying it's not fair that this was prejudged are wrong. You should reap what you sow.

I've no idea on the first part. For all I know, there could be a lot of people with higher confidence than those on this thread.

I was really thinking that, with a little humility, they could keep their ESPN3 and Cobblestone contracts, and re-announce as a single event, run under PDGA rules with certain USDGC-like exceptions, even if not sanctioned, and with a new PR person in charge. Starting with a new website that started with something like, "With insight and input from the broader disc golf community, we have revised the ADGT Open, and proudly announce...."

I'm confident that's not what's going on but.....who knows?

David...if they did that, it would be the smartest thing that the Salient crew has ever done. I might actually watch if they did something akin to that. It would really be a good start.
