"We're following the PDGA rules of play with the following exceptions/modifications"

This is what they are trying to say, without saying it.

or "we're hoping that all the players just do what they do, following the rules they know in their head, and there are no issues that arise" if they do, we'll (off camera) break open the PDGA rulebook, and make a pronouncement (on camera) of our decision.

That'll add some drama to the viewing experience!

By the time the cameras arise, there'll only be one group, presumably with officials in tow to make all the calls.

Now registration closes Feb. 28th and still no word on max size of the field, or how many are registered and how many openings are available.

With each rules change, ask yourself how this applies:

".....make the game better for new viewers for TV based on ESPN3 standards "

For the life of me, I can't see how some of these make it better for TV (!) viewers, or guess what ESPN standards required them. But that's just me.

That's been their standard line about the PDGA break away from day one. Its never made any sense, but I guess they get credit for sticking to their story....???

I hope they paint a 50' circle around each basket, otherwise I can see people jump putting from around 50' forgetting the 50' putting rule.

One would hope that the 50' circle would be painted or otherwise clearly marked not for the players (though they'd benefit), but for the cameras. I mean, if the cameras and ESPN standards are the impetus for these variations from the PDGA rules of play, go the whole nine yards with it.

That's more than a half-mile of paint on an exclusive golf course. I bet they don't.

But, you're right, some method of determining 50' ought to be available.

Yup, that's one where, like David asked, how does that improve the game for an ESPN televised event? It seems like it's just a change for the sake of being different.

Rangefinder.

In a whispered voice from the commentators -
"here's Feldburg now, measuring his distance"
"why's that bob?"
"that's what everyone does, they pull out the range finder to determine what kind of putting style they are allowed"
"that sounds kinda dumb there, bob"
"if you think about it, it kinda does, doesn't it?"
"haha, what a weird sport"

Or because it's the way they've always thought the rule should be.

Hey, I've been known, in rules forums, to lead my comments with "When I'm named Rules Czar....." I think this is what happens when someone is named Rules Czar, or names himself.

I'd respect them more if they just owned up to that.

Pretty funny. Moreso when they see the flailing jump putt or strange walking putt he's trying to get clearance for.

They've re-written a few rules now, in response to issues raised on their facebook page, patching a few of the potholes.

Well the lie is no longer infinitely long. Now it is one foot long and anywhere between 21cm and 45cm wide depending on the size of mini you use. Because that will be easier to see and enforce than a line that has no thickness...

Love it!

I LOVE the way your facebook back and forth went about that. ADGT tried to accuse you of misreading their rules (when we all know what it said) and you're just like "nah I didn't, thanks for fixing it anyway"

At least they're finally fixing the glaring errors. Still tho, I don't really understand how those errors made it that far in the first place. I mean, all the stuff they are just fixing TODAY I noticed the first time I read their rules. I understand that its hard to proof read your own work, but you couldn't have found 1 other disc golfer to do it before now?

It started today because they opened discussion on their facebook page, telling people to read the rules.

The hard work isn't proofreading the rules---it's imaging what is not covered by the rules.

I've been in the rules-writing business before, and that's what haunts you.

I like how they use 'spirit of the game' to defend gaps in the rules. Well now that wouldn't fall within the spirit of the game. If I can extend my lie to here to get a better shot, and it's going to help me beat you, and there's nothing you can do to call a rule on me, F the spirit of the game, I want to will all the monies!
