American Disc Golf Tour

Wow, you hipsters sure get riled up over your craft beers! LOL. :p:D;):)

Hopefully enough emojies to get across that I'm just having fun and not actually calling anyone, or not calling anyone, a hipster.

Interrupt a hipster while they are drinking their Americana and working on their Mac book to discuss large corporations and you will really touch a nerve. Sorry for the thread drift, here is a video to ease the tension.

Hey, just found out i'm semi-hipster! Any other "hipsters" want to meet for some craft brews and go ruin a vibe someplace? LOL

They haven't said what the cap is, but I assume they need to take in as much money as they can.

I guess I missed this, but they've posted payout information:

https://americandiscgolftour.com/event-info/

Along with the no-refund policy. It says "Updated 4/11/16", so I have no idea whether the no-refund policy was there before---or if the "No Registration Refunds within 30 days of the event" was just posted, conveniently late. I guess I haven't been paying close enough attention.

So basically it's an a tier full of ams on espn3

Can you imagine how impressed non disc golfers who stumble on the event will be when they hear the winner of this premier event are getting an awesome payout of $1000!
I mean this shold definitely take the sport to the next level

Definitely not a craft brew guy. I also do not wear skinny jeans, have a beard and listen to Coldplay. Hipsters are doing everything they can to ruin the coast of SC's vibe so I tend to stay clear of local breweries unless I have an obligation to go to one.

An A-tier requires more added cash than that. That payout is an absolute joke. Where is all that Am money going??? Straight to the Dr.'s pocket, ANOTHER successful scam on the dg community! YAY!!!

Talk about digression. When I think "hip" and "hipsters", a thread about the Salient guys immediately comes to mind.

Wow... I've seen better payouts at a B-tier that cost $60 to enter...

So....if you were earning a living playing disc golf, are you saying you wouldn't break away from the National Tour and travel halfway across the country to double your $300 entry fee? Or perhaps even triple it?

The scheme was flawed from before the first announcement. But imagine what those payouts might have been if they'd stuck to the pro-only format.

I clicked the link, and two things:

How are they going to show a history of disc golf segment, without mentioning the PDGA?

Second thing, the part about last minute Pro Qualifying. You pay to attempt to shoot a low score and can restart at any time during your round. But even if you win, you still have to pay the entry fee to play?

It appears from this new schedule that they'll be televising one pro group of 5 players and an am group of 5 players for their 2-hour program.

Will this be the lowest-watched event in the history of espn3?

Or that only 6 players are winning anything?

That's $1,000 after paying $300---so really winning $700.

Well, maybe the world will be impressed that entrants will get some backpacks, sunglasses, a shirt, and some discs. Like those old-time TV game shows, where even the losers got some token prizes.

It better be a dazzling broadcast.

Well, it's got the rest of world seeing it listed as "golf", and a few disc golfers who'll tune in to see the train wreck.

The second ought to be a side bet. Will more than 5 people actually try, knowing it'll cost them $300 to play? Will anyone?

It's a C-tier---no added cash at all. Except, however you value the players pack.

I'm not so sure about the Dr.'s pocket. I suspect he's taking a hit, unless he's got big sponsorship dollars. About $14,000 in entry fees, $3,500 pro payout, rent ESPN, rent Cobblestone, pay a production company, some expense in the players packs.....the math doesn't look good.

1 Really?

2. What?

The second thing is directly borrowed from one of the biggest disc golf events in the world...one played right up the road from this one. So, not really out of the ordinary at all.

Maybe they can approach Wrangler to sponsor a segment on the history of the sport in conjunction with rolling out a dg line of jorts. Also is this is joke or a jab at USDGC qualifying now?

Yes, and my guess is that it was coupled with an expectation that there would be a flood of registrations by the original invited players. After all, the USDGC's day-before qualifying benefits from the fact that it's so hard to get in any other way---you can't just sign up.

As things have turned out, the day-before qualifying looks a little silly. No one needs to qualify because they could just pay their way in---even now.

Hey now they gotta pay the broadcasting team and cobblestone somehow. We all knew they weren't going to take a loss on that stuff to keep the payout up

Probably putting a dent in the operating costs. I would be very surprised if Salient is actually turning any kind of profit on this venture.

I realize that, but that event has no problem filling and people who don't qualify by the traditional means, welcome the opportunity to play (and pay) their way in.

I don't see it happening with this venture.
