[Mids] Recommend an understable mid to me

Not sure if you're considering anything anymore...
I wouldn't get a cobra based on my experience, the dern thing is just too flippy at anything over 250... I have a buddy with a champion Panther (I know you said no champion but you could get it on star) and that is a brilliant midrange. Probably two times a round I find myself saying "hey, you using the panther?" 😂😂
Just food for thought after you've bought some to try out, because one more disc can't hurt, ya know?

Where can we find these Star Panthers? I'd sure love to get a couple....

I got a chance to take my Fuse and Warrant out for some field work today and threw them next to some other mids I own (Karma/Roc/Roc3/Big Z Comet). I was really impressed by the GL Fuse! It tends to turn for ~30% of its flight and then lock into a line and hold it with maybe just the barest hint of fade if you give it some height. I could hyzer flip it and get laser straight lines out to 330 or so and give it less hyzer for shorter straight lines as well. This is exactly what I was looking for. It's in premium plastic, but at least it's GL and not Lucid; we'll see how bad it is during the winter. Hopefully I can still grip it in the wet after it's got some wear on it.

The Warrant was a bit more understable, probably a little too understable for what I'm looking for. Even when I was throwing shorter drives (say 270 feet), it tended to turn for about 75% of its flight. So even off a fairly steep hyzer release, it would still finish well right of where I was aiming. This isn't a bad flight if you're looking for something to shoot a tunnel with that will finish hard right at the end, but it's not what I am looking for right now. So if anyone wants to buy a 180g highlighter yellow flag stamped opaque Lucid Warrant, PM me.

I prefer base plastic for mids, although I am willing to go with Star-type premium plastic as well. I don't like champion style plastic, so please don't suggest a Z Comet.

It's going to be really nice, one day, when I read this in a thread and can suggest a few MVP/Axiom discs.

Yep! Tangent and Theory got suggested anyway (in Neutron or Plasma which are Star-like and thus meet the lower bar of the acceptance criteria). I mean to try one of those eventually as well; been hearing the Gyro guys singing the Tangent's praises for years now.

I wouldn't mind trying some of the MVP/Axiom mids in a firm Electron someday though. Electron does feel really nice although the Atoms I had didn't seem super durable, so might need a firmer version for mids.

first vote for stratus here. Suuuper flippy, lots of fun to throw. Very shallow rim too.

Yea, the Tangent is a great disc. I don't bag it because my Axis has seasoned enough that it's understable, but it took forever to get there.

BTW, it's nice to see a thread like this where the OP actually responds. LOL.
(I know you're a DGCR vet, but just saying)

This non-Gyro person also likes the Tangent. My only issue with Gyro mids like the Axis and Tangent are that I'm not comfortable with powering down with them. Aside from that, the Axis and Tangent are good discs.

Haha, thanks! I think in a thread where I'm asking for specific advice, I should respond to at least some of the posts. I don't have time to respond to all of them of course. Also, posting follow ups about what I've actually tried and how it turned out might be helpful for others reading the thread later.

Are you not comfortable powering them down because they fade too much or don't turn as much when powered down or some other reason?

Some of both. I feel like I need to get good snap on gyro discs to get the best performance out of them, and if I power down it doesn't feel consistent , nor do I get consistent flights. Admittedly it's been a while since I've played them, so if I took them out tomorrow (hey, an idea there....) I might get better results with them.

Also, the MVP /Axiom discs don't have a lot of glide (JMHO, YMMV), so powering down with them gives different flights and differences than putters and approachers and mids that do glide more. If I committed to the MVP/Axiom discs, I'd learn them and be okay, but I prefer my current bag.

Yeah this is helpful, I'd like to try a Fuse sometime now too as a turnover mid (I also throw mids ~330', but often 250-330' range is where they are brought out). I hadn't seen them talked about much recently, and just assumed they were too flippy if you could throw mids 300'. I guess not at all. I have been using a Core for this shot but it won't be a real turnover unless it has at least 300' of power on it. Recycled Claymore is a bit less stable when it's thrown 275'+, but it can get finicky at too much power. I do like the Core a lot though, glidey and straight.

Sounds like you and I use mids in a very similar range. Under 250 and I'm usually throwing a putter (Pig or Colt), but that 250 - 330 range is exactly where my mids get the most use. I really liked the GL Fuse in my field work today so I'd definitely say give it a shot. It wasn't too understable at all, just a nice flip up and then locked in on whatever line it was on. Fyi, the Fuse does have a very slightly plussy rim. Plus mold rims have never bothered me honestly, but I know some people hate them. It wasn't even super noticeable to me except when I handled it side by side with the Warrant which was definitely straight up and down whereas the Fuse had a slight slant.

The Fuse is a great disc. I threw them for a good bit. I actually have a few if you'd like to trade and try one out.

Yeah the Core has the same plus rim. I don't mind it at all on that disc. I typically choose molds that I can forehand and backhand equally well, but an understable mid is just not one of those discs I need to be able to forehand for how I play. (The only issue I have with plus rims is forehand grip/slip)

My GL Fuse is super flippy, I don't think it's even possible to get it out to 330ft without it flipping into a roller. It's very light tho, only 169g.

Interesting. Mine is 177 so that could make a difference. I'll be sure to buy backups for it that are as close to max weight as possible.
