Had my first encounter with a Pro, is this normal?

Well, the point was to illustrate that pros may have a reason to dislike previous sponsors, and the OP said the disc the pro refused to sign was Innova.

It isn't a question of right or wrong, it's a question of why.

Fair enough, but throwing Innova's name in there does not help prove your point, but does unfairly put them in a poor light.

Yeah, and Innova certainly doesn't need any assistance in the "poor light" department. :|

It's weird to even want a disc golf pro's signature.

Case closed

Thanks for the input everyone!

Sounds like his refusal to sign my disc was maybe a little bit unusual but not unheard of or "wrong" by any means

Yep they are just super evil and don't care about disc golf at all.

To the point about the car, if my car breaks down on the way to my job, does my employer owe it to me to pay for my repairs?

Or should I have had my own money that my employer gave me the chance/support to make, saved up for such a situation?

If you say that Pro disc golfers don't make a lot of money, I realize that, so maybe he should've found a side job during the off-season to save up some funds.

My boss will come pick me up if my car breaks down and I can't get to work. I don't live very close to work.

Yeah, just move on and don't think too much of it. Even if you got them to sign it, a few months (or weeks, or days, or even hours) from now, you're just going to think, ah, who cares?

Poor Innova, they're probably filing for bankruptcy right now b/c of this thread.

I'm torn. Part of me wants to say "what a dick, you're lucky to have any fans at all, sign the gosh darn disc!" Then the other part of me wants to say "if you really want the signature buy the disc from the dude and support the cause!".

You should thank the pro. Putting ink on a disc decreases the value of that disc. He did you a favor.

Unfair criticism is unfair criticism regardless of size and amount of success.

Good thing he didn't criticize Innova then. All it takes is basic reading comprehension to discern that he didn't say anything definitively negative about Innova. An anecdote that he literally admits is speculation is nothing.

Besides, there's no such thing as bad publicity, right? Stop being sensitive.

But what if innova sponsored?! :D

Then they'd be an Innova sponsored joker, lol. It's just a bad look, a "c'mon man" moment in my eyes - do you want to be a pro? or a parking lot hustler? Maybe Shaq (someone mentioned him) can do it, but shaq has some financial insulation in case of a fallout.

That said, I don't see a whole lot of that attitude from the top guys/gals, regardless of sponsor. This is a generalization, but IMO that kind of blind loyalty seems to come from newer/younger pros, or those that are not at the top of their "teams".

Either way, I think as a pro, you shouldn't fanboy your own company. It just makes the separation harder if something goes wrong. It's a business, and turnover will become more and more common if/when the size of the industry grows.

Just my .02 - pros should treat their fans well.

:hfive: i was just giving you ****. I agree 100 meng. DG just is still coming up for pros to have a attitude on the fan side regardless of makers. Like i said b4 on the video side of things disc golf is better if we all work together.
