[Recommend] My endless quest for a driving putter

Wow, lots of love for the Envy.

I think that a driving putter that you throw for most situations, and a driving putter you can throw into the wind are two different things. I throw P2s a lot and love them, but they are not going to fight a whole lot of headwind. Some, sure, but nothing like what a pig can handle. IMO, putters across the board just don't fight wind well compared to faster mids and drivers. If I'm facing a 15mph headwind, I'm just not going to be throwing a putter outside of 120'. I'll step up to a mid range just for wind resistance.

I'd say keep one of your OS putter/tweener molds for the wind (pig etc) and go with a P2 or Envy or one of the stable throwing putter molds.

Discmania P2 in s line and d line for me. If you are finding P3s understable it may be time to take a look at form because OAT is basically the only thing that would make them flip unless you are absolutely mashing them or throwing them into a strong headwind. An S line P2 is plenty stable for me IMO.

For me the P3 is not understable, but when I would throw it even on a hyzer, it would tend to try to fight out of it just enough to go a bit long and miss my target window on that dogleg-left shot in heavily wooded conditions that I was trying to hit. I began using an S-Line P2 for that shot with better results.

It wasn't OAT that was the problem; the P3 disc simply wasn't quite "there" for me. The P3 shines for me in windy conditions (not hurricane-force, mind you) where the wind swirls and changes directions... the P3 holds well on approach shots to the basket from 50-80 feet or so.

And note to the OP: My Envy is in Neutron plastic.

exactly what he said about the P3- for me as well- it seems like a useful disc fwiw-

I have better luck throwing my max weight SS Wizard from the tee, just looking for something with less bead, and a little more distance than I can get out of the Wizard, that will hold a line without flipping over, on a hard throw,

It sounds like The Envy is the way to go

I'll suggest something a little different and say the Serpent. Dead nuts straight and can handle power very well.

It is shorter then an Envy though.

Seconded. For beadless driving putters, I definitely stick with a Serpent. Resists turn great, some fade, but not a bunch, and won't blow by the target. I prefer driving with a premium plastic Scale (Armor/Armor Flex) But, that's beaded. Either way, I love me some RDG. :D

I agree with the form work suggestions. Do yourself a favor and tighten up your form, work on release angles, and just see if that doesn't solve a lot of these issues much better and more permanently than trying to find the perfect disc all the time.

I do like the Envy suggestion, but lose the crutches and you'll be way better off.

The envy really is onr of the best driving putters to come out since the pure IMO.

I love to drive putters. Envy feels like cheating. I actually drive ions with bigger bead but like the envy i love how they fly the same at 300 or 30.

Max wt vs lighter will be OS to stable as well as sliiiiiight raise to core (i wouldn't even call it dome but just not FAF) like TB mentioned will be most OS. Pick whatever plastic you like as they all fly the same.

i'm thinking my medium slightly beat in Harp would be almost the same disc as the Jokeri, I could be wrong though, thank you for the idea

 I'd recommend an S-Line or C-Line P2

Proxy's better.

It is IMO as well but you can have a proxy with a seasoned envy. Cant make a proxy any more OS. Envy will last much longer vs a proxy. I love the proxy mold but i will just be throwing ions next season. I have OS, straight and US electron. Same can be done with envy/atom.

I would try out either the colt or the stud, both are great but they may get more turn than you want. I also really love the marshal I don't turn mine but I also don't mash putters.

Soft N is the general consensus on the most OS Envy. My max weight P is a little more stable than my soft N, but the soft is only 163. I use the soft for driving and the P for hyzer approaches.

Envy and Stud are great for what you want...I haven't thrown an Envy in a long time but I remember really liking its feel and stability. Both of these discs are straight with power and feel excellent both FH and BH grip. Just don't ignore driving your Wizard also...it can be easier to range a speed 2ish putter sometimes as both of those other discs are a bit faster. If for some reason I only threw Innova I would definitely have a star Stud in the bag, it does have a bead but it's shallow. If you hate beads completely then Envy is likely what you want. IME from other MVP discs proton vs. neutron is a looks only difference. Hand me a disc blindfolded and I can't feel the difference, and the flight difference is nothing. Although apparently softs can be more OS, which is what people are saying here too.

Axiom Envy - Proton is more firm like Champion or Z, Neutron is like Echo Star, but very durable 4/4/0/2

MVP Atom - Proton (NEW) flies like 4/3/0/1 its amazing, seriously. Electron is baseline and is velvety. 4/3/0/1 works into 4/3/-1/0

Honestly I was on that quest as well and it ended when I found the Proxy, Atom, Envy. Proxy is a lot like the atom, but more glide, less speed, but not by much, the Proxy is more understable than the other 2 but not really an understable disc. I say the proxy is like 4/4/0/0 on the nose. Its so darm straight.

BUT if you're looking for a throwing putter that can handle power but is overall VERY straight. Proton Atom hands down. Something with a lil' more glide and a lil more fade Envy. Or sliiiight turnover to straight finish, Proxy. Really, they are so damn good. END THREAD ;)
