2018 Las Vegas Challenge PDGA NT

I like Big Jerm's commentary most of the time. Maybe a little stats happy at times, but I enjoy his perspective a lot. I know it would probably be difficult to do in such a short amount of time, but having some of the spoken stats shown in some sot of chart instead of spoken might work.

Jomez, CCDG, and Spin all have their own styles, and I'm good with that.

The MLB Os have had some great announcers, and some that weren't so great. The action on the field is ultimately what is most important to me.

So the LVC MPO winner will be on The Upshot this week...you heard it here first!

Episode should be up tomorrow!

Jeremy Koling is not a very good commentator. Sexton is absolutely excellent and anybody you pair with him will sound better as a result. If Koling wanted to I think he could improve very easily, but instead he does stuff like call out youtube comments that complain about him eating food while recording

Big Jerm is pretty good though, he just needs to tighten it up a little, he can get a bit sophomoric at times. Otherwise I like what he brings to the commentary.

As far as the women commentary goes, sorry, I have to mute them, they drive me nuts.

Did he not have a pretty good second round?

Not sure. The only thing I read was that he didn't think he could make the cut so he may not have even played the second round? With Eagle throwing darts at the moment, not sure any amount of preparation for the Memorial will be enough? Should be an exciting tournament!

yah...Jomez Coverage was incredible to say the least. MPO/FPO.. just awesome. REALLY loved the way they integrated the commercials into the video so the "feel of the coverage" never stopped and just flowed well, resulting in a bit shorter video as well. Nice!

My only negative comments about the otherwise stellar commentary, is when either of them say something like "I did that, I could have done that, why didn't they do this or that, etc, etc". No offense guys...but when you're not on the lead or chase cards, it comes off a bit pompous. ;)

Thanks for commenting that they were otherwise stellar.... however, anytime you start with "my only negative comments ...." or "No offense, but..." is, well, everyone knows.

The "BigSexy" commentary team is losing a little luster already for me, mainly due to BJ. Sexton is very solid. Maybe JK will end up being like Gary McCord in "real" golf, can't play with the big boys but hangs around as an announcer.

I have a perspective on videos & coverage ... that I shared on another thread.

I think the producers should ignore the negative comments (or even constructive comments) of anyone not helping (with $) to get the coverage produced. I am 100% happy with the work of Jomez, CCDG, Smashboxxtv, the Disc Golf Guy & Smashcutzz, etc. They do a great job -- ESPECIALLY given they primarily do it for a consumer base that the majority wants something for nothing.

Here I'll help everyone out:

how do you know which patreons I already do or do not support? if I told you I supported all of them does my opinion become valid in your mind? if I only support one, can you maybe turn 1/3 of the remaining text of my post from red to black? thanks.

To think that any of the video producers or commentators would willingly ignore a helpful suggestion because it wasn't backed by dollars is silly. Furthermore, I see no issue with anyone having opinions on the content, regardless of their financial contribution, and frankly, it's probably a bad move on your part to assume none of them are contributing.

I greatly appreciate that these guys are out there busting their a$$es to provide us coverage. I certainly wouldn't want to put that much work into it, and I'm thankful they do. So I'll subscribe to their channels, and I'll give them video views, but I have no obligation to donate my discretionary money. They have chosen to embark on this enterprise, and as far as I'm concerned, it's up to them to find a way to profit and make it sustainable. If they can't, and they discontinue, I have other entertainment options.

Well that's crazy. Now I feel my form is even worse if near 700 is possible without much wind assist. Numbers like that are more meaningful I think than the impossible current records.

I think GG has cracked 700 at Bowling Green years ago with very little wind on flat ground as well. The dude bombs. You know the lake everyone throws across at USDGC during distance exhibition? GG has cleared that lake not only with the putters from his bag but also with a Sonic before.

you do realize that not a single person was talking sh!t about the producers, right? critiquing and or expressing opinions about what spills out of a guest commentator has nothing to do with the work that jomez, ccdg, etc put in...

He also unofficially broke the old distance record in Barbados over 900'. Not sure what the wind conditions were but that's at sea level. :gross:

Dang... Why take it so personal??? I see all the time people posting, "hey it's a forum wherein people get to voice their opinions."
.....Can't I voice mine??? I NEVER made any statement about what you (specifically) NOR anyone else donated/supported/contributed etc. I DID NOT assume you nor did I assume anyone else was not contributing. My comments were stated from the generic perspective. I just think it is very unreasonable (in general) to expect something for nothing. If people are just voicing their opinions on this forum without expectation, then, great -- no harm, no foul. Bobby CDSB made a statement at the end of our interview that I wholly agreed with. And like Broken Shoulder above said, "no big deal, I'll just change my entertainment options"; meaning having disc golf coverage isn't that big a thing for him. I have no problem with that position.

Paying to voice an opinion? This isn't Washington ARay

Well, sure they weren't talking smack directly about the producers. They WERE talking smack about the people the producers had specifically chosen to do their commentary. So yes, it does have something to do with the producers. Again, my general opinion is that people shouldn't expect anything if they don't contribute anything. CAN the producers consider any comments? Sure they can. But I contend they should take the comments of the "I-want-something-for-nothing's" with less salt or credibility than those who do contribute. Whether or not you (specifically) or anyone is in that group, I don't know.
And no, you're not paying to voice an opinion; it's America, speak out all you want. I am just saying don't join the chorus of people all over America who complain expect something without putting in the time, effort, or resources to help find a solution. That's the way I handle my business, and my staff knows it. Bring me a problem, send in the solution with your problem. And that solution must include what that staff member himself is doing to help solve it.

I am going to refrain from any further comments on this topic, because I don't want to risk hurting the prospects that Jomez, CCDG, Smashboxx, DGPT, etc. have to get contributions for the great work that they and their commentators do. But doesn't our country revolve around the free enterprise system. To get more of what "WE" want, "WE" will ultimately have to find a way to help with the unsustainable model of disc golf coverage that had been the norm. With the few subtle changes recently, it is getting better.

I think your original comments came across less generic than you're stating here, but either way, thanks for clarifying.
I do respect what you're saying, and I understand your push to support these crews. But you're right, not everyone is going to prioritize it the same way.

I am not actually sure there's a commentator problem though, per se. I'd be surprised if Jomez was losing a significant number of viewers because of the commentary, even those being openly critical. As such, it seems a tad defensive position.

Don't Sexton and Jerm have Patreon accounts also, for commentary? You didn't link those.... what am I to infer from that? :p
