2019 Pros Switching Sponsors Official Thread

I'm actually more interested in what Uli is going to throw.

All this McBeth build up, debating, disney and Star wars has pretty much turned me off. Best of luck to you Paul, but I just no longer care. I didn't drink the DD Kool-ade, I'm not going to try the DC flavor either.

We wouldn't have expected anything different

Keller you are so daring. So counter culture.

Haha. Yup, and a few other things

Yeah, all that blingy digital marketing shixt is a major annoyance that should profoundly affect your choice of discs to purchase.

Is he regional or just not lead card coverage?

Like MJ, he tours, but not to all the tournaments.
He has also been on the lead card a couple times this year. If you will remember, it was McBeth doing commentary, talking about how stable Dollar's ?Photon? ?Phase? was.

In the commentary, they were saying Photon, but it looked like the Phase to me.

Anyone interested in hearing what Uli might be throwing, we will have him on tonight as a regular guest for SmashBoxxTV. We will be talking about what is going into his new bag and the decision to change sponsors.

It will be part one of a 19 part series. :p

YouTube.com/smashboxxtv & 9:30 central.

I think a bit of both. I think he lives and plays mostly in the SE. Also, rated 1011, so if you sort PDGA members by rating, he is number 101. Not that he can't occasionally get on a lead card, but in most big tour events it's pretty unlikely. That's not to say he isn't a solid player, just not one you'll see that often on big tourney lead card coverage.

No, the marketing shixt and bling don't bother me at all, I see it for what it is. It's the heard of idiots standing around circle stroking trying to decide what new shinny object to get and clogging up the road that bothers me.

My selection of discs is doing just fine, but thanks for think of me though:p

I saw Ricky doing this very thing at Ledgestone in '17, after his round. It was kinda sad really.
Dude plays a grueling round at Eureka Temp and then scurries to set up his table at Sunset Hills to sell his/Lat64 merch.

I think kinda sad is working in a cubicle in a windowless building 40+ hours a week. I'd take playing disc golf professionally over that any day even if it meant having to sell merch after the rounds.

Is he going to tell us what is in his bag or just say all the discs he tried and how they flew? Because if it's the latter I'm not interested ;)

I'm actually way more Stoked about Uli switching than Mcbeth. One Paul is trying to help people score better on the course.. the other seems like a vacuum salesman.

My mom overheard me watching the new mcbeth video, of him with his new drivers

maybe ill get some first run mcbeth discraft stuff :D, this was also after her asking what i wanted this year

Yes. A thousand times yes.

They are both paid to sell discs. How they choose to do that is up to them. Uli is not giving clinics out of the goodness of his heart. It is not like McBeth trotted out every disc Discraft makes. He chose a handful that could legitimately fill holes in his bag and told us what he thought about them. He did not claim that video was anything than what it is. And every in the, building the, whatever the bag ever done has been to sell either discs or the person in the video as a personality. And remember, you don't have to watch.

I liked how honest the whole thing was.

He's obviously not afraid to say what he thinks about the discs.

Like with the Nuke (probably a big seller for Discraft), calling it fast but touchy.

I didn't like how they had him throwing up hill though.

Almost every stable/OS disc is going to fade out when throwing uphill with a tailwind and some newer players might not understand that.

I actually think pros doing this is better than on flat ground. Not only, as others have pointed out, for the ability to get good video but also because it makes the discs fly more like they might for a mortal.

I watched the video, and in case anybody from Jomez is trolling the forums, here's my take:
First, thanks for the content. I may have suggestions, but I appreciate that it was created and released.
Second, after watching a few disc review videos this year, it seems like it was a hashed-together, spur-of-the-moment piece that was a somewhat lacking in the polish that we have come to expect from Jomez.
I did like the bling post-filming graphics, but it didn't help me understand the disc. Not sure how it could've been better, but not high on the helpful scale.
My preference for filming would have been flat ground with overhead drone filming with distance grid lines and a tracking line to show the flight path.
These are what I would've liked to see, not a criticism of anyone who liked it.
After all the disc review vids I've seen, this one just fell short.
Better than some, not as good as others.
