DGPT, PDGA, and the Coronavirus

I'd rather be getting my tax dollars back for all the public services currently closed.
I'm sure you know it won't happen, but now I know you're nuts.

Any "savings" local state, and federal govts might see as a result temporary service reductions/suspensions during this mess, is gonna be more than offset by the cost of dealing with this at public health clinics, and more importantly, lost tax revenues.

A Facebook disc golf buy/sell group just announced they will not allow any more disc sales until further notice. The admin is a Reg Nurse (some here know him well) and said they can not allow the possibility of this virus getting transferred thru the mail.

Should the PDGA be issuing slight refunds on memberships?

I guess I have far bigger things to worry about. I have been in meetings most of the day, hearing how the 8 hospital healthcare system I work for is already starting to strain. Nurses and hospital staff are all working overtime already. Some for 12+ hours outside, testing people in their cars in makeshift drive thru testing lines. It can't keep going without replacement help. Seems pretty early in the game for this, huh?

12 refund on my hobby? Shurg.

Damn, I hope they don't shut down the mail.. How am I going to get the "Ohm" ?

Our disc golf tournament is shut down and the kids graduation ceremony is dubious, man she looked sad...

Things are about to get worse when this really winds up, every country's healthcare system is ill prepared, except maybe Sweden (no I don't really know that). Many people are stupid, selfish and won't take precautions. The poorer people are the more it's going to hurt, there's lots of hard working folks that may not get benefits or an income. Foreclosures, hoarding, profiteering, deficits and crime are a coming.

Good news here the kid at school that we heard was positive was a miscommunication false alarm. I was really evaluating our finances and work load. Everything is strained already: winter, Christmas, tax season, if I don't push 35 hrs a week we go backwards. I did only outside work the last couple days in case... one of my guys is sick with a stomach bug and my wife just got it.. We talked to the nurse and it doesn't sound like anything to worry about.. I had mixed feelings about two weeks off of work, I think I would like it though, I'm tired and stressed out. Screw this it's almost sunset and a good time to disc golf and be a disc golfer.

Yes, but they won't.

Just like how colleges won't be refunding dorm payments and meal plans that the students won't be able to use for half a semester.

Just the first Google hit that I opened, related to the Boston area

For those leaving campus, the college confirmed that it will be providing refunds for the pro-rata portion of student's room and board payments to the college, accounting for the time they're away.
...
The college's budget office is in the middle of developing a financial policy and process to address possible refunds and financial burdens.
...
Officials said room and board costs will be prorated for the remainder of the semester. Once students have left campus, they said they will issue a credit to each student.
...
She said students will receive a credit on their accounts for the unused portion of their room and board.
...
The Worcester-based college confirmed that they will provide pro-rated refunds for room and board charges.
...
We will be issuing partial credit for spring semester room and board charges, due to these unprecedented circumstances, for the spring semester,
...
Dean Rakesh Khurana confirmed in a letter to students that room and board charges will be prorated for anyone moving out.

Dear Rick,
After careful deliberation, the PDGA Board of Directors has decided to suspend PDGA sanctioning of all events for a minimum of 15 days through March 31, 2020. This decision takes effect immediately and will be re-evaluated in the coming days as information and guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) develops.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented all communities with an unprecedented challenge, and that goes the same for disc golf. With many municipalities mandating that gatherings be limited to 50 people or less and White House statements on March 16 calling for that number to be 10 or fewer, it is difficult to run disc golf events while still remaining in compliance with the recommendations of the WHO, CDC, and other public health experts. With the interest of not only the health and safety of members but also the greater public in mind, suspending sanctioning is the responsible choice.

"The health and safety of the disc golf community is our top priority," Board of Directors President Justin Menickelli said. "Undoubtedly, this decision affects many stakeholders. We understand the burden this may put on tournament directors who have invested time, money, and energy into their events; on players who are now forced to alter travel plans; on sponsor relationships; as well as thousands of members who look forward to playing in sanctioned events each weekend. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic touches more communities and puts several age groups and those with underlying health conditions at risk, it is requiring sacrifices from everyone. We know our members will keep this in mind and be great ambassadors for our sport. Eventually, we will get back to business as usual, and we look forward to seeing thousands of disc golf events resume on courses around the world."

With regard to refunds, players are encouraged to be patient in working with tournament directors, who are handling numerous requests at this time. Please see the PDGA Competition Manual for Disc Golf Events section 1.03 online for more information on withdrawals and refunds. PDGA staff has also complied a list of frequently asked questions. Please keep an eye on PDGA.com for the most up-to-date information.

As a reminder, please be sure to follow the guidance issued from the WHO and CDC for preventative measures to limit the spread of COVID-19:

Wash your hands with soap regularly and thoroughly (30 seconds) or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap is not available. This measure is particularly important before meals, especially in a buffet-style service.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands.
Avoid close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections and stay at least two meters away from infected people or people who are showing symptoms (such as coughing).
Avoid mass gatherings.
Ventilate hotel rooms regularly.
Seek medical care if you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
Stay informed and follow the advice of your healthcare provider.

Well, you voted them in. Thanks a lot.

And the lack of services already affects me. I was getting my cdl for my wildfire work and the dmv shutdown, statewide. I've GOT to have that before I leave for OR, but I'm not ranting randomly at the government about it.

You don't understand how the fed works. They're not part of the govt. No one votes for them.

Yes you are.

How does he get there?
"The chair is nominated by the President of the United States from among the members of the Board of Governors, and serves a term of four years after being confirmed by the United States Senate."
Where do the Governors come from?
"Governors are appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate for staggered 14-year terms."

If you vote for a president who won't pick a garbage Fed chairman you won't get a garbage Fed chairman.

This gave me a good laugh. You literally quote that the positions are appointed by the president, and not voted on. That's exactly my point. There hasn't been a non banker owned president since Kennedy, and that's why they killed him. They've ensured there's never been a non puppet on the ballot for my entire life time.

Just like citi bank appointed Obama's cabinet, and some other bank likely appointed Trump's, the president is just a front man.

The entire year is going to be cancelled. We're not even close to being at peak point in the virus yet. :(
Personally, I think this is going to get really bad for all of us. When it is all said and done, nobody is ever going to add "and the PDGA cancelled all the disc golf events" to their descriptions of what is going to happen. There are going to be far more important and memorable things to describe.

I hope we never hear anything about disc golfers in any part of the world causing more problems than was needed.

I really don't expect that to happen, from my little part of the world most are taking things seriously.

But there was one who started a thread on Facebook with "Laid off and quarantined, where should I go this weekend for a good disc golf trip"? :wall:
I'm not sure they understand what quarantined means.
